Dallas Cowboys NFL Table Tennis Paddle (1paddle)

Dallas Cowboys NFL Table Tennis PaddleThis was a gift for my son who has really gotten into ping pong after getting a table last year for his birthday. The paddle is well constructed and works fine with one minor issue. The star in the middle is made of a different material. It hasn't made a noticeable difference overall but thought it should be mentioned.

He was very happy with it.

Step2 Table and Chairs Set (Blue)

Step2 Table and Chairs SetThe table and chairs are great, but now that my son is two, it doesn't seem to be as sturdy as I'd like. He's already almost too big to sit in the chairs.I also wish I could have gotten a second set of chairs, but they don't come in those colors, which was very disappointing.

The chairs are very slick, so my son slides ride off. Otherwise its a great table and chairs. Perfect size

I chose this rating because of the quality of this product and the speed in which they sent the product. This is the second set I have bought as gifts for my grandchildren. The chairs are extremely well made for being a plastic. They are sturdy as well as the table and if it can handle my granddaughter it can handle anything!I'd highly recommend this to anyone who has children or grandchildren.

This set is cute and very easy to put together. My only complaint is that it is so light weight it moves around the room too easily and needs something to keep it more stable. Maybe rubber feet?

Not too stable but fine for a toddler. Good for a two to three year old. Easily assembled. That's I have to say about it.

Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game Core Set

Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game Core SetHere's a tactical dogfighting game for Star Wars fans. It puts you in deep space, and gives you the opportunity to... blow each other up. You start out with an X-Wing and two Tie Fighters, move dials, move templates, ship and pilot cards, dice, a weapon range ruler, some obstacle markers, some tokens, and that's about it.

First, one thing that sets this game apart is that there's no board. You play on whatever tabletop you have available. That can give you a very wide area to play in. It can mean some long-distance chases. It also means that you can introduce your own obstacles, if you want. (The set includes a number of asteroid obstacles, but it could be fun to add your own objects for planet size interference, etc.)

Game play occurs in 5 phases:

1. Planning. Players dial in a move in the ship's movement dial and lay it face down by the ship. Every ship has a different movement dial, which gives it different maneuvering characteristics. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses.

2. Activation phase. The ships are moved according to the movement dial following a set order. A template -basically, a curved or straight rectangle -is available for each maneuver. This indicates where the ship ends up at the end of its phase. (This is where pilots try to outwit each other. Guessing and second guessing -like paper-rock-scissors on steroids.)

3. Combat phase. Pilots that have others in their sights may fire on them. There are firing arc markers on the ship bases and a weapon range ruler to determine the possibility and accuracy for a shot. Players firing roll firing dice. Players being shot at role defense dice. This is where ships take damage and blow up.

4. End phase. Players that haven't blown up yet, or otherwise won or lost according to certain conditions, clean up their tokens and prepare for the next round.

The game gets pretty intense -you may actually find yourself leaning into your turns. The aspect of second-guessing your opponent is a real pleasure. Gameplay is simple, but real skill is required to outmaneuver your opponent. Star Wars fans will appreciate the ship characteristics, because they are based on the "real" versions.

With the various scenarios available, as well as the possibility to play on different surfaces and introduce your own obstacles, there is a high replay value. Replay value increases even more with the non-random expansion packs, which give you extra ships and pilots. (You can buy Darth Vader in his special Tie Fighter, for example.) More ship mean more elaborate scenarios.

Drawbacks? The initial price is rather high -three ships? How about a few more for the price. Expansions are likewise expensive. These are the only real drawbacks.

This game is highly recommended for it's tight dogfighting gameplay and its possibility for complex scenarios with expansion.

Also check out the expansions like Star Wars X-Wing: Y-Wing Expansion Pack and Star Wars X-Wing: TIE Advanced Expansion Pack for creating more complex scenarios. If you want a break from space combat, check out THE Book of Word Games: Parlett's Guide to 150 Great and Quick-to-Learn Word Games.

Hope this was helpful.

I have two core sets, and three expansions purchased thus far, and I'm simply loving this game.My kids and I (11 and 12) find ourselves playing several times a week.It is not overtly complicated, and has two sets of rules you can play with.A very simple set to help younglings or new players ease into its combat, then a more advanced set of rules that allow for even more dynamic battles and fun. This game has a lot of potential, and with the Millennium Falcon, Slave 1, A-Wings and Tie Interceptors already coming out this holiday, this thing is going to be a blast. I can't imagine what its going to be like when an Imperial Star Destroyer finally hits the market.Surely those things are in the works.

One of the major negatives is the price. Here, at Amazon, it sits at a good price point, elsewhere, its 10 to 15 dollars more expensive.Buying this game on-line is the way to go.I would recommend picking up the core set (probably an additional one too) and pick up at least one each of the expansions.Fantasy Flight games does a wonderful job explaining the rules, packaging their sets, and giving you plenty bang for your buck. These guys are the Porsche of board games. You can't go wrong with this.It is simply addicting.

If you love star wars and table top gaming, you'll love this game. Great quality, easy to learn rules and beautiful ship models. The game needs to be played on a 3 x 3 surface, preferably cloth so models don't slide around. Sadly, no game mat is included or available. I went to wal mart and bought a 3 x 3 piece of black cloth for $3.50. Couldn't find night sky star field fabric in my area :-( hopefully you can. Its an awesome game set in an awesome universe. Go buy it, you'll like this one alot. Check out fantasy flight games site to check it out. I believe you can read over the rule book. Enjoy :-D

This is a great game! I highly recommend it for Star Wars and dog fighting game fans. The components are well made and pre-painted. The game consists of individual fighters commanded by generic pilots from Imperial and rebel squadrons as well as named experienced pilots like Luke, Wedge, and Imperials like Darth Vader and Dark Curse. Note, some pilots come in the expansion packs. All the pilots are rated a value and you typically play a points game (like 50 or 100 pts per side). The Imperials are less expensive than the rebels which is why the starter kit comes with two Tie fighters and only one X-Wing. You can buy two starter kits to double your numbers or buy the expansions (which I did) to add ships and some new named pilots. To even out points you can add some special cards that improve pilot skill or add astromech droids that fix damage or improve ship handling. Players can jump right in as Luke, but I recommend playing as a rookie pilot first.

There are some weakneses:

1) There is no campaign, it would have been nice to see a system to graduate players from low ranks to higher ones with some linked scenarios. As it is I can be a rookie in game one and Wedge in the next.

2) The fighters are mounted on a plastic stand with a seperate plastic pole linking the miniature and the base. This is the part most likely to break and I would like to have seen FFG the publisher include two extra stands to cover breakage.

3) FFG suggests using a 3x3 playing surface. I wish they had simply printed a stary map, do not use felt, your stands will snag. Go to a fabric store and get the kind of cloth used in tablecloths, black of course, andthen use your artistic talents to add stars and nebula.

Gameplay is based on maneuvering onto a tail position and rolling hits. Some feel this may be repetitive, however that is what dog fighting is about. In tank games, tanks manuever for flank shots and in skirmish games, soldiers move and shoot from cover. If you don't like the idea of dog fighting over and over again don't get this or any fighter game.

I highly recommend this game if you want to refight the fighter battles of Star Wars. Current expansions include Y-Wings and Darth Vaders advanced Tie fighter. This winter will see the Millenium Falcon, A-Wings, and Tie Interceptors.

May the Force be with you!

Want Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game Core Set Discount?

Fun game, love the figs.Must have for Star Wars geeks.Only down side is the 'collectable' nature of the minatures. The starter kit comes with only one x-wing and two tie fighters and is about $40.Ouch.Each of the add-ons is about $15.So, if you want another TIE, $15, another x-wing, $15, the TIE Advanced with the Darth Vader pilot card, $15.They did a good job of dispursing the cards as well.R-2 and Luke Skywalker can only be found in the X-wing expansion. The only photon torpedo weapon cards are in the Y-wing expansion. So, I have about $120 in this game so far.I have five TIE fighters, TIE advanced, three x-wings, and a y-wing.

Wave two comes out very soon.Millennium Falcon and Slave I are gorgeous figs, but about $30.Ouch.

I should say something about the dog fighting ascpect of the game.Very fun, so far.Lots of trying to guess where your opponent will be next turn.Pretty easy rules.(For those of you who remember Car Wars, it reminded me a lot of the basic version of that game.)

Alex Toys Pirates of The Tub

Alex Toys Pirates of The TubI wouldn't waste your money. I saw this advertised in a parenting magazine as a hot new toy... but it's not. There are like a million pieces and they don't hook together like they say they do. The kids spend over half the time trying to jam the pieces together and it's more frustrating than it is fun. My boys (3 & 5 years old) ended up just taking a bath with tons of little pieces floating around. I finally got the pieces together for them and every time they touched it it just fell apart. My kids love tub toys and this one got played with once and they didn't want to bother with it again. It might be good for an older child... but I doubt it.

My granddaughter, age 2.5, could not wait to take a bath. While she was waiting, she set the whole thing up on the living room floor. She had a whole little story going.

There are a lot of pieces, as some have said, but this was a big plus for us. More pieces to make up stories about. And she loves putting things together.

She's only had it a couple of weeks, but it looks to be well made. The little pirate characters are very cute and not flimsy. Her little brother, who is teething, loves to chew on them.

This is a great toy and big hit.

This is a truly fun tub toy that appeals to different ages.My boys range from 7 years old down to 9 months old and each child enjoys the set at his own level. They love to create scenes on the tub sides and on the mirror. It's a great set and I highly recommend it for boys.

I purchased this for my 2 year old daughter for Christmas. When we opened it, it does in fact come with approximately 42,000 pieces give or take. I gave her about half to play with since our tub is small and I didn't want her to suffocate among the foam. She loves the Sh(t outta these things. The one down side is the squirt toys themselves never worked. The plastic along the bottom seam was never sealed so they don't hold water to squirt. Fine by me since squirt toys hold a plethora of microbial goo. 4 stars for the pirates with incontinence, but other than that a pretty fun toy.

Want Alex Toys Pirates of The Tub Discount?

I got this for my 3 and 5 yr old children and they LOVE it! Yes, there are a lot of pieces, but that's what they like! There are enough pieces that they can each create their own scenes and not have to fight over just a few pieces! The only think I would change would be if the characters etc could stick better on the tub walls, but overall it's a great toy!

Lemming Mafia

Lemming MafiaMayFair Games hits another home run!

The players gain points by betting on the lemmings, i.e., who will finish first, and by accepting victory conditions, e.g., pink and green finish in the top three, etc.

I've played this game with five separate groups now, and in each case we immediately played another game of "Lemming Mafia."

Here is the Dr. Games evaluation:

GO/NO GO criterion

* Complexity: Lemming Mafia scores well on this one! Everything is done in terms of pictures, and the rules are simple enough that most five year olds could understand the game, but there is a lot of room for indirect approaches. There are a variety of strategies that work in the game based on how much strategy you choose to inject in your play.At the simplest level, you could just select your favorite color to win.One in six times, that strategy wins.At the high end of complexity, for the mathematically inclined, you can carefully estimate the likely die rolls and speculate about your opponents goals based on past actions to develop a detailed strategy. Based on experience, this probably results in victory about one in four times.

* Balanced: The game is completely balanced. All goals and all lemmings are equally likely to win.

* Chance: The game has the appropriate level of chance. Each turn, the players roll dice to determine which lemmings they can move. The players can choose which spaces to put the moved lemmings on.It is a nice balance of luck and strategy.

* Clarity: In ten games, there has never been a question about the rules. The rules are written clearly and are easy to understand.

* Reasonable Time: Once you know the rules, you can play a game from start to finish with four players in less than 30 minutes.

BONUS criterion

* Social: The rules light mechanics encourage social interactions during play. While my groups did not bargain on which lemmings to move, I can imagine that a game could include some horse trading in terms of helping each other out.

* Unique/interesting Mechanic: The idea of betting on the lemmings rather than assigning each player a particular color is a very nice mechanic. Also, the longer you wait to choose a winner, the more points you get, but you run the risk of not being able to select at all.Nicely done!

* Inform: Um ... not so much on this one.

* Rewards Throughout: Each time the lemming lead changes, the players get a boost or a blow to their standing.Lemming Mafia does a good job of keeping things exciting.

I highly recommend adding this game to your family bookshelf.

In service,

Rich

This is a very simple game that we play once in a while in our gaming group as an in between game before long complicated gaming sessions. Its very simple but alo very fun.

We also use this game to introduce new gamers into the gaming world since its very easy to learn and follow and it can get people into the world of gaming without scaring them off (for example starting a newbie with Arkham horror...they will never come back :P).

Must buy!

Over Christmas Break, our college kids were home with their siblings, and our grandkids came over.My mom was here. From great-grandma down to 8 year old grandson, we all really enjoyed this game!

The characters are adorable in a cute, dumb-looking, clueless kind of way. The premise is funny--really?! helping the rodents to their demise faster?!It cracks me up, and we were hooked on it.

This game is fun and easy to play. We play if often, the game last about 30 minutes or so and it's fun to see the outcome of the race to see who finishes first. It may or may not be to your advantage. The game takes some strategy, and you don't know until the end and tally up your points who wins.not to competitive. It's a great game for two persons.

Lionel Coca-Cola 125Th Anniversary Vintage Steam O-Gauge Train Set

Lionel Coca-Cola 125Th Anniversary Vintage Steam O-Gauge Train Set
  • Lionel celebrates the 125th anniversary of Coca-Cola with a vintage steam set reminiscent of the company?s 19th century beginnings
  • Includes general locomotive and tender, flatcar with vats, wood-sided reefer with opening doors and simulated box load inserts in interior and more
  • Transformer controlled forward, neutral and reverse operation
  • TrainSounds sound system in tender with steam chuffing, whistle, bell and squealing brakes

I am thinking of returning this set.The whistle worked for the first 5 minutes and stopped working and now i think it is broken.I also purchased the other sets, the Harry Potter and Polar Express one,I have not set up the Harry Potter and am going to give that away as a gift but I did unwrapped the Harry Potter and the engine on it is noticeably (twice) as heavy as the Coca-Cola one.The Polar Express engine is also very heavy (twice) compared to the coca cola one.The coca-cola one feels like it's a cheap quality build item compared to the other two engines so I would suggest the Polar Express and the Harry Potter over this one.The Polar looks more fun though because of the 4 additional characters, the whistle works out of the box.As for the smoke I have not gotten it to work well on either of the train.

edit:changing from 1 star to 3 star.Yes it is lighter and feels 'cheaper-made' than the other set, but it is still a decent set.I have set it up on it's own track and I have the polar express running on the outer track in the opposite direction. The kids love it.I paid $139 for this set and for that price, I think I will be keeping it even if the whistle is not functioning properly.I have purchased the Thomas and Friends cheaper sets that runs $50-60 and also the wooden table top train sets that runs $90-$130 and it's a no brainer to go with this set since it is a lot more fun and enjoyable for the kids.If the Polar Express or Hogwart set falls to around the $170-$200 range I would recommend those sets over the Coca Cola @ $139.

Buy Lionel Coca-Cola 125Th Anniversary Vintage Steam O-Gauge Train Set Now

If you were to purchase the components separately, it would total well over 300.00. For this price how can you pass it up. It would be nice if the engine was made out of metal completely, but it still is a workhorse and keeps up with my polar express set which I combined the two with and now have plenty of extra track and transformer if I want to expand. The kids like (and I do to) the train sounds, put the train in neutral and hit both buttons and hear the crew talking after about 35 seconds. Coke and Lionel for this price is impassably a great buy. If I wanted the real train sounds for my other set, it cost as much as this whole set. Four stars, only because the engine has many plastic pieces, but not entirely plastic. The detail is ineradicable though.

Butterfly TR26B Playback Rollaway Table Tennis Table (Blue)

Butterfly TR26B Playback Rollaway Table Tennis TableFor some reason I thought I was getting a 3/4" wood top table, but was a little surprised to get some sort of plastic top. Apparently this is an outdoor table. With several young children I decided that it wasn't all bad especially since I was 2 hours into a 3 hour assembly process. There isn't quite the same soft tapping there is with a wood table, but it is considerably lighter and cups left on the table won't raise wood rings.

The undercarriage is as solid as I can imagine a 190 lb. table can provide, but the table sways when 5-year old children lean against it. While I wouldn't want to repeat the assembly process, the end result was worth it and our whole family played (or began learning to play). The paddle and ball holders in the center are really handy.

We just got this table from another vendor and finished assembling it today. It was actually the second table we received, because the first was damaged in shipping. This one arrived in perfect shape, and we lost no time unpacking it and diving into the assembly process.First of all, it's a very heavy table--around 190 lbs., at least in the box--and they aren't kidding when they say you need two (strong) people to assemble it.From start to finish, including about 20 minutes I spent on the Internet trying to clarify a particular step in the instructions, I estimate it took 8 hours to assemble. If you're like me, you probably don't have two 10mm and two 19mm wrenches on hand.I used our two (large) adjustable wrenches for most of the assembly process, and that was a mistake.Do yourself a favor and go buy at least the two 10mm ones (small, if possible)--which are used for almost everything--at a hardware or home improvement store.I finally ended up getting a couple of them for about $13 total--well worth the money.Had I had them at the beginning, I probably would have saved two hours of assembly time.Next, the assembly instructions, though complicated, are fairly good--if you're used to assembling complex pieces from IKEA or other stores, you should be able to deal with this. But you have to be careful--there are more than 200 pieces (yes, 200), and some of the drawings are quite subtle. The one place you have to be especially careful is the very first step ("A"), when you position the two end pieces (piece number "8") as you're building the supporting structure. These can either face one way or the other, and the drawing isn't clear.I couldn't find the answer on line either, even by looking at zoomed-in photos of the table. If you make a mistake here, you'll end up having to spend a huge amount of time taking things apart again and redoing them.Basically, the two smooth sides of the crossbar should face out, not in toward the center; the "open" crossbar sides should face inward. If you look closely at the drawing, you'll see that that's what the manufacturer tried to indicate, but a few words (rather than just hieroglyphics) would have helped. There are a few other places in the manual where you'll have to use common sense, but they're not too tricky.Again, just proceed very slowly and carefully. When it comes time to lift the table tops into the supporting structure, it really, really helps to have a third person--even a kid.The picture shows two people holding one table top with one hand each, using the other hand to insert the bolts that will support the top, but you try holding a huge 80-90 lb. table half with one hand! Not realistic.Anyway, to make a long story short, we finally finished assembling the table, and it looks great and seems to work very well.I'll update this if I have anything new to report after we've used it a while. In the meantime, just remember:get two cheap (and small) 10mm wrenches, go slowly, and make sure you have at least two strong people!

Educo Double Bubble Wire Maze

Educo Double Bubble Wire MazeMy daughter received this toy for Christmas, when she was eight months old.She truly enjoyed working on moving the beads on the wires (as well as picking it up and turning it over, letting the beads move themselves). Now eleven months old, she's gotten quite good at maneuvering those beads (yes, it still holds her attention), and despite numerous drops on a hard floor and being occasionally used to pound things (such as tables and drums, both for fun and for emphasis), there is nary a chip of paint out of place and the wires remain unbent (or at least, only bent the way they're supposed to be)!Of course, the suction cups do not stick to any surface in our house, but that hasn't dulled her pleasure in the least.(However, she did get a rather rude awakening when they stuck like glue to a formica table at a restaurant we managed to keep her from toppling her high chair, despite the force she used to pull it free, but if your child is used to playing with the toy "unstuck," you may wish to leave it that way even when there are good, "stickable" surfaces available.)So overall, an excellent and well-loved toy.

Here is my one complaint about it:the wood for the base is a nice, soft wood with a thin, clear finish. What this means is that if you have a child, like mine, who likes to chew everything, it is possible for them through the use of opposing front teeth and a great deal of saliva, to turn small bits of the base into mushy, splintery messes sadly, not very safe. When this happened to ours, I let it dry and sanded down the splinters, but I no longer feel that I can let her play with it with "light supervision" (for instance, with her in the high chair while I wash dishes. In other words, if you sometimes affectionately refer to your child as "Beaver Baby," this might not be the best choice in bead mazes.

This is the best toy I've ever received as a gift.My 9 month old never tires of it, and it goes everywhere with us.It will entertain him the entire time we are at a restaurant, and if I need to get something done at home, I stick it on his high chair and he's happy as a clam.He loves any toy where he can spin things, and he loves the wire maze toys, so this is perfect.I am going to be buying this as a gift for every pregnant woman I know. It's a must-have!

Buy Educo Double Bubble Wire Maze Now

Our twin baby girls enjoy this toy and it will keep one of them entertained for a few minutes, which is nice! However, the suction cups aren't that great. Both girls can pull it right off of wherever it's stuck. But this probably would happen no matter what, kids just want to hold things in their laps anyway don't they?

My only other complaint is that when I researched the maker, Hape International, I was under the impression they were a European company and was disappointed when I got the toy and found out it was made in China.

Still... the kids love it, it helps their hand/eye coordination and cause/effect skills.Great size for little hands.

Other than that, this toy is pretty durable and sturdy, it just doesn't work at all like I had hoped.

My husband bought me this cute little solar flower as a gift and I love it. We have a lot of wildlife around us so growing flowers outside is quite frustrating because they usually get eaten. And buying real flowers can get expensive. No worries with this little cutie. I put it in the kitchen window and love to watch it sway when the sun hits the solar panel. Like the name states, it makes me happy. I just might by several of them and have create a kitchen "garden".
