Sevi Village Train Set

After two of my friends told me they considered buying this train set for their children, I feel responsible to finally write a review.

I bought this toy when my son was about 15 months and returned it the next day because it is not suitable for a first train set. 3+ actually makes sense here.

The biggest problem with it is the play mat. Unlike Plan Toys, this play mat is made out of printed cardboard. So if your toddler drools (most are still teething) or spills some water or juice while playing, the mat will be ruined. It is not laminated and you cannot wipe anything off. So unless you want to go through the trouble of laminating it, it is not appropriate for the younger ones. Additionally, the scenery is not as shown in the picture. The colors are not bright at all. I have a hunch that Sevi used to include a mat of better quality and this is an old picture, but who knows...

All the vehicles are extremely cute, but you can buy them separately. My warning there is that they are probably smaller than you imagine.

A similar train set is made by Nuchi, which is cheaper, if you mainly care about the train and tracks.

If you get this for a special sale price, go for it!

I got this product for my 2 1/2 year old for Christmas and it is really every bit as great as it looked on the box. I love the bright colors and my daughter loves that all the little cars and things can run on the track, too. I bought this train because I don't have room for a train table and I wanted something that I could put away in the closet when we aren't playing with it. This is the perfect train if that's what you're looking for. I also wanted something of high quality that would last a long time and that I could be reasonably sure of not containing high lead levels because we are about to have another baby. I am very happy with this product and think it gives my kids room to grow and learn and imagine and play. I love it!

This set was a gift for my son's second birthday. He loved it immediately, and he plays with it every day. I am impressed with the quality of the wooden pieces, and I love that all of the wheeled vehicles will go on the train track. The variety of vehicles, and the detailed play mat, make for endless opportunities for pretend play. There are four cargo containers that will attach magnetically to three different vehicles (truck, train car, and ship). This is a great toy.

My 3 year old little girl adores this Sevi train set! We saw in a local toy store set up as a demo and she played with it non-stop. Plan Toys doesn't have a play set as charming as this one, with ocean docks, airport, helicopter, central town and train track crossing. Set does combine well with Thomas trains, Plan Toys trains and vehicles. Only gripe is paint on trains and vehicles can chip off during rough play. Wish they included a touch-up kit. Yes, play mat is heavy duty printed cardboard but I spent a few dollars laminating it (very, very easy to do) using an exacto knife and 18" wide Duck Peel'n Stick transparent shelf paper purchased on Amazon and it looks like a million bucks. Printing on play mat is high quality and well worth preserving because it is so very charming. I bought mine for only $40 on Ebay because the play mat was slightly warped and bumped at the corners.

This is a great toy with several flaws. My son is 18m, and we got it for his first birthday. The vehicles are very cute. Plus we do have a lighthouse, a port, an airport, an island and a big hospital in a 10 mile radius. So it feels like a map of our city :) Train engine is my son's favorite, he carries it around everywhere we go. The paint wore off the engine a lot at this point, a piece of wood fell off as well, I had to glue it back on. I love how sevi puts it in the description "heirloom quality". That is not accurate. Nothing like Haba toys, I once accidentally washed a painted Haba block in a washing machine and it came out looking like new :) Besides, as a previous reviewer mentioned, the cardboard is not laminated which means it won't hold on well. I laminated it myself with Avery Self Adhesive sheets (which I highly recommend btw for a job like that,Obviously not an heirloom quality toy. But here is my biggest problem with the set. My son had trouble playing with it on the floor, he used to take tracks apart all the time and he just doesn't have the motor skills yet to lean down and move the train on the tracks. So I had to buy him a table to make it more ergonomic. I was hoping to get a table close in size to the picture board, which turned out to be next to impossible. Tables come either in much bigger sizes or much smaller sizes. Unless you want to go to a local woodworker and have something custom made (will probably cost $$$). Now we have a standard huge train table which took most of the free space in the nursery, it means if we have more kids in near future, the table will have to go elsewhere in the house turning our living space into a playroom. Please post if you do know of a reasonably priced train table with a top in size 37"x27".

LeapFrog Learn & Groove Musical Table - Pink

My son's babysitter bought this table for him when he was 11 months old and just getting into standing for long periods. Soon, I was joking that it made her obsolete. He spent about an hour a day, in small increments, just walking around the table (there's something interesting on every side) and manipulating all the various tabs, switches, knobs, and buttons, enjoying the sounds they produced.

This toy is brilliantly designed. Here are my favorite features:

1. It's pleasant for mommy to listen to. No shrill "fake baby" voices or cacophonous "music." The piano keys play pleasant jazzy riffs that actually sound really musical. The voice is an accomplished-sounding female singing in a jazz/R&B style. There are a great multitude of sounds and songs on this toy, and none of them are hideous, jarring, or overly loud. Mommy's nerves appreciate that. In fact, many times I found myself scat-singing along with the joyful female voice!

2. The controls are all different -not just an assortment of buttons. There's a "book" with a "page" that "turns"; there's a banjo with a neck that moves; there's a spinner; there's a compartment that opens and shuts; there's a "slide" on a trombone, etc. Flipping certain switches had the effect of changing "modes," which kept the kid engaged for long, long periods, as he tried to figure out what controlled what and what kinds of effects each switch might have.

3. There's a Spanish mode. It's always good to expose tykes to language early, and this is a pleasant start. The instrumental songs are different in Spanish mode, too; they're, well, Spanish songs.

4. It's a sturdy little table, well able to handle the weight of a leaning toddler.

About a year ago, when my boy was 2, we had to put the table away for space reasons (construction work). Just after he turned 3, we took it out again, and he lit up with joy and fell to playing with it passionately once again. That's what I call a great toy.

This is an excellent toy for infants to toddlers. We got a blue one for our son at about 6 months. It has removable legs so he could enjoy it at his level near the floor and as he has grown and learned to walk we have replaced the legs so he can still enjoy it. There are loads of tunes and sounds which keeps it interesting for kids and it takes a long time before it gets annoying for adults. The sound quality is pretty good unlike most electronic noisy toys. Two volume levels also help save the batteries. A good toy all round.

Our 13 month old daughter has had this for about 2 months.She enjoys playing with all the buttons, slides, and flipping the page on the book but it never holds her attention for more than a minute.The music and singing aren't too annoying.The only down side would be the location of the Off/ Spanish/ English switch.It is on the top near the toys and is always getting toggled.It would be better if it was placed out of the way on the underside of the table.

Redneck Life Board Game

Redneck Life is the funniest board game that I have ever played.I picked it up at GenCon after getting a review from the helpful booth staff, and couldn't be more pleased with my purchase.Tonight I finally got to play it, twice as a matter of fact.I can say without a doubt that I will be playing it quite often.In fact, I plan on introducing it to my entire family over Labor Day weekend.

Starting off you roll for your redneck name (there is an expansion that I don't have yet, but hope to have soon that offers more options) and then you begin to move your pieces around the board.The play style is similar to Monopoly, but it has a hint of the old MAD magazine board game.As you progress you get an education level, a job, get married, have kids, get divorced, purchase a house, and buy several cars.There's an interesting mechanic where your car holds only so many children, and if you exceed that limit you have to add more cars.All the while you are accruing debt, because the payday spaces are few and far between and each child deducts money from your paycheck.Different mishaps can happen that make you lose your teeth, including not having the money at the end of the game to pay off your debt.The player with the most teeth at the end of the game wins.

The pieces are fine (they recommend using beer bottle caps instead of the pawns provided) and the board is laid out with lots of spaces to land, yet it is still readable.I rated four stars for the durability as I am used to the quality of German board games.I also gave four stars for education as it really does a good job of showing what could happen if you don't graduate high school.All in all I would recommend this game to anyone who plays many different types of games and needs something light to play before or after a hard core gaming session.Come to think of it, I would recommend this game to just about anyone that has a sense of humor and likes to play board games.You'll be singing "You can be a loser at Redneck Life" in no time if you pick it up.

this is probably the funniest game i have ever played. When i first played it at a convention, myself and the guys that were playing with me each bought a copy because we laughed so hard we nearly wet ourselves. from cards like judge an actual hog calling contest between other players to doing a springer show and getting red-headed step kids named "darryl" it is a great time for the whole family.

This game is really funny, even just with 2 players.

You go around the board and stop at various "stages", similar to regular Life. However, you end up with jobs like a gas station manager or Mullet Barber. Along the way to the end of the game you get married, get divorced and get married yet again and roll to see how many step children you get. There are also "Go Redneckin" cards that can either help or hinder your progress. The player with the most teeth at the end of the game wins.

I've played this with 2-6 players and every time it's hilarious! It's a great time and demanded every game night.

I bought this for my sons 16th birthday as a gag gift.

Have one person read all the instructions first it will help the game go faster. A very interesting and fun game... It really involves everyone playing. It will rarely be the same game twice since their is so much variety in the game. Better than monopoloy or the game of life because this game will be done in about an hour thats with 4 people playing.

Some cards would be inappropriate for small children but we just took those out so no big deal. I would say that it would be for those 14 and older. Fun.

Thomas And Friends Wooden Railway - Harold The Helicopter

My almost-3-year-old has been carrying Harold around with him everywhere he goes for a year now. Of all the Thomas items we own, this one is his very favorite. He loves to spin the blades, and I like that he can't break it.

This is the one piece (besides Thomas) that I feel I need to have an "extra" on hand in case it gets lost.

My thinking was that my son was, afterall, 'into' Thomas the Tank Engine and the other Steamies, not air travel.

Great buy-afterall, sometimes the rails *are* blocked and you do need someone delivering the mail.

My kids have several Thomas toys from Imaginarium and they LOVE them. This one is the least durable of the bunch. 2 blades have broken off of Harold, so his flying is a little lopsided these days. I think they need to try another approach for the blades.

Ride Around Town Train Set by KidKraft

I bought this for my three year old grandson's birthday and he was elated since he is obsessed with trains.The base with the geographic layout is in pleasing colors and is not too busy.Setting the set up took a bit of effort (which would have been easier if the map of the layout indicated where the trestles should be placed).I used a permanent marker on the connecting edge of each track piece to indicate which code was used on the set-up map to facilitate reassemblingshould we need to move the train table.Our family checked out several different train table sets online and in toy stores.This by far had the most appeal and seems to be well made.And the price is right!This is a gift that will give pleasure for several years to come.

i'm not an expert when it comes to putting things together, but this was easier than I thought it would be. seems sturdy enough and has some cool features that my sons love. the crane and airport are already a favorite. took little over an hour to set everything up. would recommend.

Tot Tutors Toy Organizer Storage Bins

This organizer is perfect for smaller toys you need to separate.Larger toys don't fit so well due to the small space between the top and bottom of the bins.It's very sturdy only if you put it together right.I can easily see how people think it's not sturdy but they just did not put it together properly.You have to lay the wooden board down, then insert rods sticking straight up in air, then lay other wooden board on top and screw in.Hey, I did it by myself!Great organizer!

When I opened the box, i was pleasantly surprised to discover that the bins are larger than I had expected!The large bins are roughly 16x12 inches and 5-6 inches deep. The smaller bins are 8x12, same depth. When ordering online I tend to set the bar fairly low, expecting to be disappointed by some little thing or anothernot so with this organizer! I put it together in 15 minutes with a lincoln penny!! (the penny worked far better than any of my screwdrivers, haha) It is sturdy, though once my daughter is old enough to pull herself up it WILL need to be anchored to the wall (but doesn't everything?)For the price, i highly recommend it. We have had this toy shelf for quite awhile now and thank goodness.It helps to keep all those little balls, blocks and small stuff animals off the floor.So far it seems pretty durable. We attached the anchor strap to the wall and my daughter tugs and leans on the shelf with no problems.The one thing she does have a hard time with is when she wants to remove one container from any shelf other than the top she has a hard time and gets really frustrated.This usually leads to all of the bins above it coming out and toys strewn every where.Other than that though a great investment.

My almost 3 year old son loves Thomas. He got two of these sets for Christmas. Yes, as a parent I am left to rebuild after every disaster but I knew that going into it. He has been playing with these things non stop for two days now! Neither set was missing pieces and they all work together especially with the addition of some more mega bloks. Overall, you need to expect to have time spent rebuilding these tracks but I can tell already that these Thomas sets will be toys that he plays with for years.

The differences between the two are more than just the characters in the package.I recommend anyone interested in purchasing one of the sets first buy this one, it is more fun than the quarry but together they make a great combo.So many negative reviews on these toys that I just don't understand.Maybe people have just grown lazy due to toys with less 'maintaince' like video games.

This is a nice set for what it is.However, if you haven't purchased any of the Thomas Mega Bloks products be prepared to buy more.There isn't a whole lot of tracks that come with it and if you want to do imaginative play instead of the layout in the instructions you won't have nearly enough tracks.Fortunately for my son with Aspergers, we have bought a bunch of sets and he is able to be creative and have a lot of fun with them.Also, the tracks are not flat.They are designed to curve up and down and this can be difficult to support properly so the connect right and don't fall over.

Pool Table Spots - Set of 10

Upon installing the first pool table dot on my table the black on the dot itself rubbed off when my handed rubbed over top of it to press it down onto the felt. I haven't tried the others yet however I have a feeling they are all the same. Not much more than a sticker with black marker on them. You are probably better off just making them yourself out of stickers you buy at walmart.

I received my items within the prescribe time, but the spots don't last very long after several rackings.Should be allowed extras to compensate for wearness.

I bought this for my 9 month old and it is a big hit!She discovers new things everyday and will play with it for quite awhile.I think she will even like it better later!I do have one small minor complaint--the mirror scratches VERY, VERY easily--I cleaned with water and paper towel and the paper towel left faint scratches.It doesn't bother her, just me.Overall, I think this is a great toy!

I saw this toy on television and bought it that day for my 12 month old. As soon as I got it home and set up, not only my one year old, but also my 3 year old began to play with it. They love it! Through pressing different buttons, my little one has learned more about cause and effect, and which button makes which sound. My oldest is learning to share more, and to help his brother when he can't figure something out. They pass the microphone between them, and dance and laugh for at least half and hour at a time. The only problem I had was setting it up. The screws would not fit into the hind legs, so it is missing 2 of the 4 it requires. Other than that, I cannot recommend this toy enough!

I bought these for centerpieces for my parent's 50th anniversary party and they are very pretty but a bit difficult to work with.In particular, attaching the 50 to the center was problematic because the tucks are too large to go into the honeycomb.They were also smaller than they appeared in the picture.Nonetheless, they were a great addition to the party.

This is very cheap looking.It was very difficult to pin it and keep it opened.The cardboard bow was bent when it arrived, not in good condition.Skip this!!

Melissa & Doug Swivel Bridge Train Set

We purchased this for our son for Christmas.He was going to be turning 2 in January.He loves Thomas, but it's hard to justify those prices especially when you have other children to buy for.Needless to say, we have been very impressed with this set.It has a ton of track, you can set it up in many different configurations--I don't think we've ever done the same thing twice!The bridge and tunnel are great additions.All in all, perfect for our son at his age.And just a note, Thomas track pieces and trains DO fit with this set, which is another bonus!Another great product from Melissa and Doug.

This set was a christmas present for my 2 1/2 yr old son.He absolutely loves it.

I wondered if he would be able to put all the toys together easily/by himself without frustration and he has had no problems with any of the pieces.They are very well built (and trust me, this kid puts toys to the test).

I also wondered if this set would have enough piecesI thought perhaps I would buy some additional corners and straight sectionsI'm glad I didn't.There are plenty of pieces here.

Clean-up is great, too, all the pieces fit into a small basket.

If you have a child that loves trains, I would highly suggest this!

My sons (5 and 2) both love Thomas the Train. I like the toy too, since it encourages them to think about different track lay-outs themselves. Also, it's simple enough for my 2 year old to enjoy playing with, but not so simple as to be dull for my 5 year old. The main downside to Thomas sets is that they are so expensive. The track, especially, costs a lot if you want to build a decent size layout. My sons prefer the actual Thomas trains to off-brand trains, but the difference between Thomas track and offbrands is a lot less of an issue for them. Because of this I have gotten mostly Thomas brand trains, but track sets like this one to get bigger tracks. This track set has no compatability issues with Thomas track sets and the lay-out is respectable, even as a stand alone. The track design isn't decorated with a track pattern like Thomas track is, but this hasn't been an issue for my kids. The only odd issue I've had is that my beagle finds the track from this set especially enjoyable to chew-on, going to greta lengths to get at it, while he leaves Thomas train sets alone...I don't know, maybe they make the tracks in this set next to a dog treat factory or something? I any case, this set is a pretty decent buy for the money.

What is it about Elmo?Elmo is my granddaughter's favorite, an opinion that seems to be held by most of the toddlers in her circle.Not Big Bird, not Cookie Monster, but Elmo is the one they love.

This Elmo finger puppet is very cute, certainly looks like Elmo, and is of Gund's typical good quality.I don't know yet how my granddaughter will like it, since its first appearance will be in her Christmas stocking.I think we'll have a lot of fun with it, though.She's got a great imagination and we love telling stories to each other, so he'll be a nice addition to our lineup of characters.

It is a little bigger than I expected, which is my own fault for envisioning 5-1/2 inches without actually measuring it out.Still, that just seems a little large for a finger puppet to me.Certainly, it will be too large to fit her finger for awhile.Still, I'm looking forward to some fun times with it.

It doesn't really look like the real Elmo, outside of coloring and having features (it has eyes, a nose . . . ), but still very cute.My 6mo child hasn't ever seen Sesame Street (tv), but as seems universal among kids....goes CRAZY for Elmo. Seems to help with the babe's motor skills for grabbing, holding, and articulating movement on the doll too. It's definitely a Go-To Toy in our case!

My only concern is that my kid likes to "eat" their eyes and of course scratches off the black ink with many a sharp small tooth. So after only a few months, the blacks of the eyes are nearly gone. Otherwise, the puppet/stitching itself seems to take a licking and it's a great size to throw into a diaper bag. We bought others from the series too. (Just as cute)

This finger puppet is quality made and fits almost any finger adult or child without falling off or looking awkward.My 2 year old loved it and it's small enough for her to fit in her pocket or just tuck under her arm and carry around.

Disney Fairies Tinkerbell Desk and Chair with Storage

This desk was surprisingly well made and heavy. It was a little difficult to assemble but it worked out nicely. It's really pretty also. The designs are amazing. For the price it was a great buy and I love that my taller than average can use it for her coloring and learning to write. I would highly recommend this product.

I bought this for my 2 yr old to practice her handwriting. I never expected such a beautiful chair. The pictures do not do the brightness of the colors justice. She feels like a big girl and it is great practice for when she does go to school. She uses it to color and play and sometimes even eat a snack.

Rotating Disco Ball Light

Horrible, don't buy. It is just a waste of a few bucks, but it is horrible. The light is very dim and the rotation makes noises. I hope it doesn't electrify me one day. I'm throwing it out.

After seeing the negative reviews on this, I thought I would chime in as my experience has been only positive with this toy.I have purchased multiple disco balls online.This one is good because it is simple and reliable.It uses a standard night light bulb, which makes replacing the bulb very easy. Since this is usually the first thing that break on a light, I think this is a good design.We have had our's now for 4 months.I replaced the bulb once and it continues to operate flawlessly.I have purchased more expensive and flashier disco lights that did not last nearly as long.In fact, I am on this page now because I am buying a second one.

this table and chairs was my 20 month old's favorite gift this year.He adores Mickey Mouse clubhouse and did not want to get up!Boxed up nice and packed in an outer box.Great deal on this, found for way less than others had it...would recommend to anyone with toddlers.

My excitement to see my son's delight upon receiving another mickey mouse product; which is his favorite character right now; was destroyed upon opening the box only to find one of the seats slashed.It was very upsetting and disappointing to receive a damaged item.

This was purchased as a gift for my granddaughter. I did not open and inspect the items when I received it. By the time her birthday came around and she opened the box, it was discovered one leg on the table would not lock into place as the others and the table is unsteady. Because too much time has passed, I cannot return it for an exchange or refund. My advice to anyone buying this product is to make certain everything is okay upon receiving the shipment. Amazon says they will refund only those things that are unopened but in this case the defective leg could not be known until the item was removed from the box. Now our only option is to attempt to fix the table leg ourselves. Bummer.
