PlanToys Road & Rail Transportation Play Set

I really wanted to like this set because I like Plan Toy products, but this train set has disappointed us.It's nicely made of smooth wood and the characters and accessories are fun. However, here are my gripes:

1.The tracks fit together very loosely.Not having owned any other wooden train sets I don't know if this is the norm, but it makes for frustrating playtime.The overpass falls over whenever my daughter runs the train over it and the tracks tend to misalign.

2.The cargo containers also fit on the train and truck very loosely.They tend to fall off or come off when little hands try to pick up the train by the container.

3.The train cars are top heavy and the wheels are small and of thin plastic.This causes the train to derail very easily, especially when you send it around a bend.

4. The set is not made to any particular scale.The puppets are cute and clever, but my daughter keeps wanting them to sit in the train (which is naturally where the people go) and they don't fit in or on anything.The other parts are also randomly sized.

Overall, a nice looking set.Well made, but not so fun to play with.It gets +3 stars for looks and for being responsibly made, -2 stars for being frustrating.

This is a great first wooden train set, and I think the most verstaile from Plan Toys. The crane is a really fun feature, more active than just a train station, and more educational. You can make both a bridge and a tunnel, not all sets allow you to do this.

And its a good price, too. We added a few add-ons to make it perfect for our daughter (she loves the crossing expansion and school busses).
