The New Touch: A Game of Sensory Perception & Memory

The New Touch: A Game of Sensory Perception & MemoryThis is a great game and very enjoyable for my child. It says ages 5 and up, but he is 4 and loves to play this game. You can order the expansion packs and misplaced/missing pieces on the board game's website www.thetouchgame.com.They will send you missing pieces and cards at no charge.Other items you might need are at an additional cost.

I bought this for Christmas so we could try a different sort of game. As another reviewer mentioned, the directions were sort of vague.

The gamepiece is a big plastic thing that looks like a flying saucer. On one side there is a hole for your hand (draped in a plastic material, so you can't see), on the other side there is a window. On the top, there is a 30 second timer. When the timer is on, a light comes on inside of the flying saucer so that anyone looking through the window can see what is going on.

The game comes with cards and pieces. The game cards have sets of pictures on them. For example, a sea creature card would have a picture of a seahorse and a squid on it. You spread these cards around the flying saucer, face down, then put the corresponding pieces (i.e. the seahorse and the squid) inside the flying saucer.

To play the game, you spin a ring around the bottom of flying saucer. The ring has a pointer on it, and whichever card it stops on, you flip over. Set the timer, then stick your hand into the flying saucer and feel around for the objects shown on the card. It's not clear to me whether you are supposed to get all of the items listed on a card in 30 seconds or just one of them.

We've had to change a few rules. We only use half the cards and items. My five-year-old doesn't like the timer. It doesn't ring or anything, it just makes him nervous so we don't use it for his turn. And we allow one do-over per turn. My kids (ages 5 and 7) can play this together (without parents present) without fighting. They focus more on the fun of feeling around for the objects or helping each other by saying "hot" or "cold" than they do on winning or losing. Sometimes they even play by themselves.

I feel like it's money well spent, because The Touch is both a game and a toy. The materials appear to be good quality too.

I teach a preschool class and many books tell you to "put items in a bag and have the kids identify them using only touch".This game is that and so much more! There are many cards you use and each has pictures of 2-4 items in that category you need to find.In the beginning, you should only use 1/2 of the items/cards as it is REALLY hard for kids AND adults. You spin the spinner and whatever card you land on is the one you need to find objects for.You set the 30 sec. timer and reach in to try to find the items using only touch. The back of the container is see-through, so the rest of the players can see where you are reaching. To be honest, I thought it would be really easy for adults, but my 6 year old is doing better than several adults who have tried it.It works the right side of your brain, so "right brained" people will definitely have an advantage, but it's fun for all ages!

I was extremely excited to receive this game for my 5 year old son (on the cusp of 6), unfortunately I was quickly disappointed. The basic idea of the game is to use "touch" to find pieces that match a game card. The problem really revolves around the quality of the game. This may be an individual issue in that I received the one and only crap version--who knows? The large blue unit itself doesn't seem to reflect how the game will truly be played, which is with a small hand scrambling about to find pieces. If the makers intended a grown adult to play with the child, this was not incorporated into the design.Anyone with large hands would find the game annoying-I am in the medium range and I had to hold the lid on to keep the unit together while I "searched" for pieces. The timer didn't work. The game pieces were sticky, as if they were just freshly painted.I really wanted to like this game, the concept is so neat.We played the game a total of 2 times before I finally shelved it for a garage sale. Also, be prepared to need space for this game, the cards spread out around the blue housing, which you have to spin to get a card--another awkward issue about the game.

I bought this game for me and my 9 year old daughter to play.I was a little hesitant as the kids in the graphic look really young...thought it would be too easy.We had a really fun time playing it and it was challenging enough for both of us.It also includes variations on game play as well for degrees of difficulty.Good purchase.
