Chinese Checkers

This is a great game of strategy, yet not difficult.It can easily be played with two people; I'd say one round lasts maybe 15 minutes.You make a trail to hop over each other and the first one to get all his marbles in the opposing corner of the star wins.They used to sell this game in a tin, but now, I discovered alot of the chinese checkers games are either made with plastic pegs or smaller marbles that are on slightly smaller boards, making it annoying to play, because it's hard to maneuver the marbles around no room for the fingers to grasp the marble without knocking them out of the holes.This particular set that I am reviewing is the standard size, with standard sized glass marbles (hooray!) so I'm pleased. It's also made in the USA (hooray!) of maple or cherry wood.

I am disappointed in the size of the holes for the marbles with the board in this game.It is too easy to accidentally nudge a nearby marble from its place when playing.The holes are too shallow and a little too close together for fingers to manipulate while playing.My grandsons who are five and eight years old have just learned this game encouraged me to write about this.The wooden board is well made and the marbles are nice, but the hole size and placement of the holes are its downfall.

I am so glad that I bought this nice game. My children, ages 6, 8 and 10, enjoy playing and are slowly catching on to the strategy involved. I love that the directions are actually carved into the back of the wooden game board we'll never lose them!The marbles come with a pouch for safe keeping, but I have to keep an eye on where that pouch ends up. This is made in Vermont, and I always like buying things made here in the good ol' US of A.

Chinese Checkers (made in the USA)was introduced to my grandchildren on a rainy day that needed a little something extra. The three year old used counting , understanding getting from one place to another and strategy. The almost seven year old was all about strategy. We had a fun filled afternoon and the children look forward to playing each time they visit.

We were disappointed with this game. When I opened the shipping box the game was inside wrapped in some shrink wrap without its own box. There was a small hole on the seam of the shrink wrap and when we put all the marbles on the board we discovered it was missing one yellow marble. We decided to play the game without the one marble but were unable to play because the spaces between the marble holes were so close together we kept knocking other marbles out of the holes when we tried to make any moves. I am trying to send this back for a full refund.
