The first thing I noticed was that the white board wasn't necessarily "dry erase". It uses washable markers and is cleaned with a damp cloth followed by a dry wiping. This is great since we bought 50 washable crayolas for Christmas as well. Now we have about 60 markers with which to enjoy the white writing surface. The markers it comes with are B. eautiful. they are typical B. Toys colors, a nice change from the harsh primary color scheme everything else seems to come in.
The chalkboard is just plastic, but so far it writes nicely (often plastic blackboards skip badly when chalked). There isn't much to say about this so farI haven't been able to find colorful chalk pens locally, and a two year old is obviously going to break regular chalk so we haven't used it much so far. It would be nice if it came with those. They've been a challenge to find!
My favorite parts: even though the description says it turns into a tabletop easel I expected they meant for white-and-blackboarding. The closure clasp, however, works to hold paper over the whiteboard for painting, coloring, markering and saving for the fridge. The bottom of the whiteboard locks into top edge of the storage base and locks in firmly at that. It can be a little frustrating to take back down, but I remind myself of the crucial stability it is offering in exchange for a moment of sweatI just worry I'll snap it sometimes because I'm not quite sure if theres a way I'm supposed to remove it except by force.
The storage underneath is amazing. I love things that come with their own storage, but this takes it for me. I did not expect to store the chalk, eraser, 60 washable markers, 10 pots of paint, 5 brushes and a paint and marker pad in this little toy! But it all fits!
As expected my little guy did not understand any of this when he opened it Christmas day. Now, however, he asks to get it out all day. I have it stored suitcase style under my television stand. The handle is very convenient for pulling it out.
We are very happy with it. I enjoy toys which engage parents with their children. I would certainly repurchase this toy if it was damaged or lost. Very worth the money!Just ordered my 3rd one. Got the first for my granddaughter who lives here and as the others have come over and played with it, I got one for each of them to have at home. And it all packs up and travels well too .This toy caught my eye because I love the Battat toys (we have many) and thought my grandsons would each enjoy having this toy for art expression.
My issue with this one is that the dimensions listed on Amazon are incorrect. The actual art box is 13-1/2" x 10", not the 15" x 11" as stated. In addition, the actual drawing space on each board is less than 10" x 8", which isn't a very roomy area for little tikes to creatively sprawl their colorful creations.
It's also very heavy for the little ones to carry. An 8 pound toy is 1/4 of my grandson's weight! It's kind of cumbersome and not ideal for little 4 year olds to easily transport around the house without banging into furniture and struggling to hold the toy.
All that being said, the toy does have its' plusses, it's well-made, visually colorful and appealing, and has the obvious Battat care that goes into all of their toys. We have every truck Battat makes, and enjoy them thoroughly.
I purchased this toy based on the glowing reviews it received at Amazon; but it didn't make it at our house and will have to be returned. My daughter and her cousins and friends love this toy they're always sitting one on one side and one on the other side together drawing makes a great toy for both of them to do at once!My neice will love this it's the perfect gift for the budding artist. It can be put away easily and takes up little space in a room shared with a sister.
