The beauty of these TnP playsets is that he can choose one to easily disconnect from the others, fold up and take with us on excursions!Thirteen of his 32 TnP playsets have MSRP's of under $25 they are (in order of introduction):Tote-a-Train Playbox, Colin at the Wharf, Thomas at the Farm, Percy's Mail Delivery, Tidmouth Tunnel, Toby at Trotter's Farm, Sir Handel at Great Waterton, Sodor Engine Wash, Talking Diesel's Fuel & Freight Delivery, Sodor Paint Shop, Around the Rails with Thomas, Muddy Adventure, and Sodor Lumber Company. They're definitely the simplest to "TAKE N PLAY" with!
We were first time grandparents of a 2 1/2 year old when my husband and I began a TnP collection for our grandson, hoping he'd pass it along to his own kids one day. We've ALL had a great time interacting with this overall quality line of trains, vehicles and playsets! He turned 4 at the end of April, and still enjoys spending a couple of hours of each day he spends with us in the Sodor land of make believe that spans a large portion of our basement.Although Disney's "Cars" characters are beginning to occupy a different portion, it's nice to see our investment continuing to hold his interest, engaging and encouraging that active imagination!Grandson #2 came along in March, so we plan to continue collecting TnP for several years to come.
*Note that I'm reviewing the product, not the price here on Amazon which is typically twice what the MSRP of twenty dollars is. You can sometimes even get it for less at KMart or WalMart.
My 2 year old LOVES trains and spends hours playing with his wooden Thomas set. However, they don't travel well and we are often away from home. So, when I saw this set on sale a few days before a few day trip in a hotel, I thought "why not?". It was a great decision. I added a Percy with cargo cars which all fit inside this compact set, making for a self-contained package. When folded, this set is about the size of a salad plate and just over an inch thick. My son spent many hours playing with this over that first long weekend, refusing some of his other favorite toys. He really enjoyed getting the trains down the 'hill', the little ramp that the thickness of the case makes on one end when it's all folded, and under the 'bridge' made by the handle. The engines on the TNP sets are diecast and about 3/4 the size of the wooden engines. That makes them very appealing for little hands. My son wants to take the TNP Thomas with him everywhere, something he's never done with the wooden engines. When we got home from our trip, he immediately wanted to set up his wooden track but he still askes to take the TNP Thomas with him out of the house and we reserve the TNP track for travel. So, it's a nice balance. We won't invest in some of the other, more elaborate TNP sets as our real goal for this is travel ease and this set fills that niche really nicely while many of the others are pretty cumbersome, even when folded. But, I can see the value of each set. For the price you can pay away from Amazon, this really was a great, portable set for anyyoung train lover.
