Thomas And Friends Wooden Railway - Round About Action Turntable

Thomas And Friends Wooden Railway - Round About Action TurntableI recently purchased this piece to go with our Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway Roundhouse and it was an instant hit with my almost 3 year-old.He immediately figured out how to turn it and back the engines into "Tidmouth Sheds" as he calls it.

I will note though this piece is largely plastic. The only wooden part to it is in the center where the rails are.The attachment pieces (on the red part) are plastic, as is the grey-colored siding that guides the engines into the Roundhouse.ALSO, the wooden piece, for whatever reason, is not glued down to the red plastic piece and falls out very easily. Not a big deal when it's set up and attached to the Roundhouse, but still annoying. The grey-colored siding also snaps in and out which also is annoying. My son takes off the siding and then yells that it's broken. It snaps back into place easily, but I don't understand why it comes off at all. While the red plastic part is sturdy, the grey pieces are a bit more flimsy, and I could see them breaking in the future if they continue to be snapped in and out of place by little toddler hands.

Overall, this is a fun and very entertaining addition to our Thomas collection. My son plays with it a TON.I would recommend it if you have the standard Roundhouse & not the Deluxe.

My five-year-old is a Thomas the Tank Engine nut, and he'd been wanting a new turntable for a while. He had a small one from one of the generic train sets like this (Wooden Turntable) that turned only somewhat well, and wasn't very big.Of special note was that Gordon wouldn't fit on it.How can you act out "Off the Rails" with a turntable that Gordon won't fit on?

So we ordered this one, hoping it was bigger. In the picture it doesn't look all that big.

It turns out to be HUGE.Gordon *and his tender* fit completely on the middle piece. As others have noted, it's mostly plastic, which isn't a big deal to us; probably makes it sturdier than if it were one big thin piece of wood. Also, note the little gray knob on the front (it's hard to see in the picture). It's attached to a little gear that fits in notches in the gray turntable piece, so you can turn the turntable with the knob. Our son loves it, and is off in his room setting it up now.

My 3 year old son loves Day of the Diesels, the newest Thomas the Tank Engine movie. In it, Diesel 10 is a very naughty engine who manipulates Percy into helping the diesels take over the Steam Works. Once all the diesels get inside the empty Steam Works, they ride on the cranes and lifts...and their leader, Diesel 10, gets on a turntable and turns and turns and turns, laughing maniacally.Well, this scenario is now played out in my sunroom every day.He loves it!

We already had the less expensive version of the roundtable which doesn't have a turntable (the Deluxe version comes with this turntable Thomas And Friends Wooden Railway Deluxe Roundhouse). When we'd go to the local toy store, they had a turntable there and my son would play with it endlessly (isn't it fun trying to drag your children away from those?). So this was a must for Christmas.

It is mostly plastic, snaps easily into the roundhouse, and has smooth rotation. My son usually drives an engine onto it and turns it round using the gray sidings, but also uses the little knob that turns it round as well.

My son was thrilled to get this toy, but lost interest in it quickly. The inner turntable comes off and gets misplaced at times.I was disappointed that he lost interest in it as he LOVES the train sets.

My 3-year-old received this for Christmas, and was very disappointed to learn that this turntable does not work with the Brio roundhouse (I think it's specifically for the Thomas one).It does not fit into the ramps leading to the individual sheds. We found a way to make it work by placing it in the middle of our track set up -and having the turntable function in the middle of the Island of Sodor. But, if you have anything other than the Thomas roundhouse, look for the turntable that matches it.
