My son is obsessed with trains...especially Thomas and Friends. I looked at buying the Thomas table and set but it truly was so expensive and I thought the table wasn't all that. I took a chance on this one hoping that it truly was compatible with Thomas and it is! I had read one review where they said that it wasn't really compatible with Thomas and I'm not sure what type of trains they are talking about. The wooden Thomas Trains fit perfectly on the tracks. The plastic trains fit on the tracks but not through the tunnels...but then again, the plastic trains do not fit through the tunnels on the wooden Thomas set either. Wooden trains are for Wooden tracks and plastic trains are for plastic tracks. So if you're looking for tracks that are compatible with wooden Thomas trains, rest assured that they will fit. :-) My son loves this set and it's very durable...at least so far. Also, it looks nice so it's not a total eye sore even though it is big. Be prepared to commit to this toy as it takes up a lot of space. For us, it's totally worth it because my son LOVES trains. Also, I got this set for $125 in November but noticed it went up quite a bit in December...if you have time and can watch the pricing, I probably would. Also, the Thomas Trains were much cheaper on Amazon...or at least they were in December 2011. Hope this helps!Purchased this train for my 2 yr old daughter. She LOVES it and plays with nearly daily. It was very simple to put together (both table and track), but pay close attention to the directions for the track as a couple pieces have to lay in a particular direction to connect properly. It is well made and so far very durable. We really like that there are different theme areas on the table and toys that fit with each theme (e.g. farm with lake, airport, mountain/quarry, and park). Our daughter is imaginative and this set lends itself very well to adding in other toys she has (e.g. she likes to put her Playmobile diver set and fish into the "lake" on the table and let the divers get things out of the water that are delivered by train to the mountain/quarry section of the table). Also, its great that all the cars, trucks and plane all also fit on the track. The track easily fits with Thomas the Tank brand trains. This set is popular with both boy and girl children of a variety of ages that come over to play. Finally, the 2 under table drawers are great for stowing away things. Many reviews recommended gluing down the track. We opted not to do this and so far and I'm glad because we can use the table for other purposes if we choose to. It hasn't been an issue none of the children who've played with it have messed up the track. You may want to test it out with your child before permanently gluing things down. The only complaint is that there is a part of the track that goes under a bridge, but the space under the bridge is not really tall enough for the train to go under without bumping the top of the tunnel. This was an easy fix with thin pieces of wood to boost the bridge up higher and now it works smoothly.
