I was specifically looking for a small globe for our classroom and loved the price. But when it was shipped to me the arm had completely snapped in two (thus separating the globe from it's base).Oddly, it had been done with little to no damage to the packaging as if it had happened long before it was shipped (or perhaps even before it was packed?).I actually had no problem with the color of the globe. The ocean was a tad darker, but visibility was not an issue for me (nor for the children, I would imagine). Also I expect small writing on a very small globe (and, in fact, am using it with pre-reading children, so I don't expect them to read it anyway). This product would be fine if you were planning to use it without it's base. However it appears that the arm connecting it to the base is weak and cannot be counted on to remain intact.

I work with students with learning disabilities in a private girls high school. The curriculum is rigidly college preparatory, but for those girls who have LDs, it's a hard road to navigate. That's where I come in with my fellow "cohort" teachers.I am always finding out something new and surprising, so I know how to keep my astonishment at bay when something is shocking.Every so often I'll get a student who knows next to nothing about geography.
I have two desks one holds my computer with its special reading program, and the other is actually a table at which I work with my student(s).The table is a generous size, but it gets crowded from period after period of different reference books on it and unfortunately not put back bywhomever borrowed it.This year I had a young woman with a severe LD and I discovered during a history lesson, that she thought that the United States was the only country in the world, and that all the other "countries" were states that help to make up the US.I needed a globe fast, and I couldn't get a big one because it would take up too much room.I needed a globe of just the right size so we could see the countries' names printed on the globe.I went to Amazon, knowing that I'd find exactly what I wanted, and I did!The Replogle globe is small, but not so small as to make reading the country names impossible especially countries like Israel which is relatively tiny next to its neighbors.I got the globe within 2 days and it was pronounced "COOL" by every student who loved the way it turned on 2 axes. The young lady for whom I bought the globe was fascinated as I explained why each country was one of four or five colors. She was thrilled to see the countries we'd talked about on the globe, so clearly marked, even though the globe is rather small in diameter.I apologized for its size to my student because I'd wanted a much bigger globe. She promptly spoke up, saying, "You wouldn't have room on your desk for it.This is just right."
She now knows a great deal more about the geography of the world and I have that wonderful little, fascinating globe to thank for it.In addition, when other students come in, they become interested in which country is in what part of the world. It has sparked a major interest a Renaissance in geography in my Special education classes. It is greatI hope to be able to get a bigger one next year hopefully topographical if Replogle makes it.But that's for next year.
The globe is great!

These little globes fit just about anywhere. Even though I have the big ones I hardly ever use them because they are not handy. I have used a similiar one for years and and keep it within easy reach. I love the way it turns on 2 axles.I am giving it a four because the stand is fragile. Dropped my old one and now it is a metal ball.
It is not a toy. OK, I admit it is fun the way it moves North and South then East to West. Just won't last long without adult supervision.
I thought I would like the antiqued color, but prefer blue water. The gold looks a little like dirty water.
