My son loved it!The mountain rumbles as the trains move over switches in the track road; or you can press a button to get the same effect, or you can push the snow balls out.The snow balls are well weighted and follow the trains down the track and ramp.My son cries out: "Snowballs hurt trains!"
The trains derail at the bottom, but if you add some bridges or strait track they do not derail.Mine goes down and up the Pirate cove skull mountain to reveal the treasure.
There are two separate track exits that connect at the peak so you can have two different trains fleeing at once.If you balance both trains just right, you can knock them both down with the snowballs by pressing the button.Unlike other posters I did not find the rumbling mountain two loud.
The separate snow channel helps trains go around bends without derailing but the plastic ice sheet gets stuck and does not hang freely, but has too much resistance.
The mountain is large and dominates a train table.Fortunately it has some tunnels cut into the bottom to allow traffic. The sides of the mountain are decorated with various snow scenes of cliffs, signs and such.I like to spruce it up with pine trees and a danger sign. This item is my favorite although my train table is very crowded.
Chuggington compatablility:Not knowing if the Chuggers would fit, I held my breath and rolled the dice.Fortunately some did, but not all:[all fit through the bottom tunnels]
Chuggers that fit: Wilson [Whew! there is a snowstruck Wilson coming out that I want for this set], Hoot and Toot, Harrison, Action Chugger.Chuggers that did not fit: Koko; Brewster, Zephie, Dunbar, Puffer Pete.Good enough for me!Some of the tunnels have ice overhangs so I will not attempt to jig saw them.My 4 year old loves this toy though for us adults it is rather annoying because it doesn't work too well (especially when you spend $100) the design is off. Basically when the trains go down the track it's too steep and they keep going straight off the track instead of turning the corner. We tried adding some straight long tracks but the train still goes off the track. The mountain guard doesn't help it just get's pushed aside. The mountain itself is made well, Aesthetically, as well as sturdy. Though it's also difficult to push the trains up the mountain due to the little entrance ways (for adult hands but little hands do well). My son doesn't mind, he get's several hours of entertainment from it. BUT, the cost and the design from an adult standpoint is very concerning so that's why it get's an overall 3 stars. WARNING it's LOUD!

My son received this for Christmas. He is four years old and just has a ball playing with it. The construction is VERY sturdy and is a very high-end toy that works well with his other wooden train sets. The seller, Big Danny, was superb to work with. Delivery was prompt and courteous. http://www.amazon.com/gp/shops/storefront/index.html?ie=UTF8&marketplaceID=ATVPDKIKX0DER&sellerID=A1E64YK789VTVIRead Best Reviews of Thomas And Friends Wooden Railway - Rumble And Race Mountain Set Here

This was a nice addition to the train set although it really is the center piece unlike other small add-ons.We have never had to change the battery (1 year) and nothing has gone wrong with it.
Only knock is the trains go down a bit too fast and the piece is so large that when they get to the bottom they have so much speed they usually run off the track since there isn't a long enough straight run for it to slow down before going in to a curve.
