Toysmith Color Magnetic Drawing Board

I picked these up for travel toys for my 2 & 4 year old at a local toy store.I'll stash the circle and square pieces until we arrive at our destination so there will be no tantrums over dropped pieces no one can reach in the car.The shapes do seem to take a big of effort to wiggle out of their home locations. I don't think the sense of quality is as high as the brand name Magna Doodle.

The colors are nice, not as vivid as the ones on the outside of the box depicts.There are four colors in blocked regions (not four primary colors as the listing says as red, blue, and yellow are the primary colors and green is a secondary color).I noticed in having two of them that each one has the colors in different quadrants so they are not identical, not that that should matter; it's just an observation.

The "pen" glides smoothly over the surface.I have two and both had a solvent smell to them coming out of the box.Not sure what that's about.Haven't found a way to contact Toysmith yet about that.I'll be sure to have my kids wash their hands after playing with them when we arrive somewhere.Not sure about durability yet as they haven't been road tested.If it wasn't for the solvent issue I'd give it 4 stars.Can't give it 5 without seeing it's durability.

This is also a fun tool for writing and spelling practice at home, the color aspect again adding interest, especially for visual learners.

This is the WORST doodle drawing board I have ever seen!

First of all, the four colors...how it works is that it uses colored "metal shavings" and is distributed in each of the four quadrants of the board.For example, the top left quadrant is a color, top right quadrant is another color, bottom left quadrant another color and so on.

You cannot actually DRAW in four different colors anywhere on the board.

Secondly, the cells that are supposed to hold the metal shavings in place are poorly engineered.This is nothing like a Magna Doodle.When you draw, the shavings don't stay in the cells, so the strokes look very faint.

Lastly, there is no back to this thing!See image:

Totally agree with the previous 1 star reviewer. This board is not worth 12$. You draw something and in the matter of seconds it fades away, and pretty much disappears within the yellow quadrant. Not worth the money. Would be a cool concept (the colorfulness) if it was well designed and you could actually see what you draw...

Great quality for the price. It Has 4 colors. My 2 year old loves this. This digital board will save a lot of drawings on the wall.
