Espresso Metropolis Train Table & Train Set

We opted for this table because it didn't look as much like a kid toy as the other options out there, it could be reversed into a regular table, and it came with a lot of tracks and pieces.

However, while the table looks nice, the quality seems more on the cheap end--the pieces of wood that comprise the cabinet are quite thin and the plastic track pieces (on the corner spiral) don't seem to allow trains to descend automatically. About eight pieces were chipped or otherwise damaged (we haven't yet called to get the pieces replaced, but it was being put together the night before as a Christmas gift so we couldn't wait for the replacements anyway--now to replace the pieces, we'll have to tear the whole thing apart). Also, you have to put EVERY LITTLE THING together (each trestle, building, etc.) with teeny tiny screws. It took my husband almost three full hours to complete the whole thing.

The train pieces themselves are definitely not the quality of Thomas or even Ikea and the magnets aren't as strong as they should be. If you have Thomas trains, they will fit ON the track, but they won't make it all the way around the track because they're too tall to fit under some of the bridge/tunnel/trestle pieces. Also, don't plan on using any other track pieces you may have because once you get the whole thing set up, there's not much room for anything else to be added.

If I had the decision to make again, I'd probably opt for a different table, but my almost 3you son seems thrilled with it, so I guess it's worth it.

The table is very cheaply put together the table has no lip to catch any toys running off the end.I would not recommend this train table to other buyers.

When the table came in one of the side pieces was broken as were several of the pieces that go with the track. The corners of the painted top were already messed up and dented. I expected a lot more for the amount of money I spent.

I wish I did more research on train set tables because i probably wouldnt have purchased this. Although the set is a really beautiful piece it does have some flaws:

1. When making a product for children you would think the actual table would have raised edges on the edge in order to for the pieces to not fall off of ledge. My son constantly has pieces falling off if he pushes it too far.

2. The wood drawer beneath doesn't close shut properly.

3. Possibly the worst directions I've ever seen on a children's toy. There were only black and white pictures that I had to look at to put together the actual train set (which took me two hours!!). I ended up having to google a picture of the product and following the train tracks on that.

4. The connector pieces are so flimsy some of them broke and we had to glue together.

Overall, I probably wouldn't recommend this to friends because of the many pieces and quality of product. I would have returned it but the box was so huge that it took two people to carry upstairs and a few hours to put everything together. So far we are just stuck with it.
