This chess board is a great buy for a wooden chess board with wooden pieces.The pieces are stored on leather straps, so they won't get lost.We have played many games of chess on this board and have not lost any pieces, despite the presence of two toddlers in the house.It is a much better storage method than a cardboard box.The pieces are of a good, practical size and weight.

By looking the image, I expected a stunning work of art. When I recived it, I was bit disappointed to see that the finish is not that great. The pieces are not weighted and hence, I do not concider is a good playing board and pieces. However, it looks great on the wall.

This chess set is beautiful. Much more than I expected. Big and Beautiful. Rustic style. I have it hanging on my wall along with the checker and chinese checker games. It looks fantastic and my kids can easily pull it off the wall to play and put it back when done.

I was looking for a series of attractive and fun board games for my children to use in the home school.I reviewed Melissa & Doug's classic set of games and decided to order some, including hte chess game board.My sons have used it a lot since it came and on the whole this is an excellent product which looks quite lovely hanging on the wall (instead of taking up useful storage space).It is attractive enough to be an object of art.My only complaint has been the method for storing the pieces.They are strung on leather strips which are notted to secure them to the board.Okay.But hard to get the kids to put away the pieces.I don't know what a good alternative would be with the design that wouldn't damage the appearence and the ability to hang the board on the wall.Otherwise, this is a lovely item and I would recommend it to all.
