Metropolis Train Table & Set

I shopped around to find the perfect train table for my 3 year old.This one was by far the best looking, and matches the espresso finish furniture we have in his playroom and bedroom.The price is right too -more than the cheaper quality tables, but far less than some of the most expensive brands.Assembly was a cinch, though it did arrive with a big scratch in one piece -thankfully, we had plenty of time to write to KidKraft for a free replacement before our son's birthday.We actually use the Melissa and Doug train set on it, but regardless of which set you use, I highly recommend you buy the snap-on connectors for the tracks to hold them in place.And you might use double sided velcro on the risers that hold up the track to keep them from slipping out.Overall, great toy.I'm sure my son will love it for years and years.

Everyone here agrees, the train set is great!But the table...eh.The table is made of particle board and looks and feels cheap.Toward the end of putting it together, we realized that a board was chipped pretty badly.We looked in the box, and found the piece that had been chipped off.

my son loves this train table but after 28 days the sticker on the table is already peeling, the wood/ paint is all chipped up too. Also there is no way to get the train tracks to stay put they slide all over the place. i contacted kid kraft and there sending me a new top so their customer service is pretty good.

I almost allowed the 1 star ratings to deter me from buying this table but in the end we decided to give it a try. We are THRILLED with this train table. I am wondering if it was improved since all the lower ratings were given? No cheap parts here, everything is sturdy. There IS a (small) lip around the entire table it isn't much but we have never had a problem with cars or trains rolling off. The trundle fits perfectly and is huge lots of space to store toys.

The table is very well made and looks beautiful. It is also VERY big which is great for us lots of play space on top. One of the best compliments I received was "Oh wow did you buy a new coffee table?" (when we had it flipped to the plain brown tabletop side". Did not look like a train table. My son has used it every day (more like every hour) since we got it for Christmas 3 months ago and it doesn't have a single chip. He is 2, and it should be chipped by now with how he plays on it but it isn't.

I numbered the tracks underneath and now it only takes me about 10 minutes to set it all up. There is one small area of tracks that falls a lot but we are going to fix it with some velcro.

We have the train tracks up half of the time, and the other half of the time the large tabletop printed with the road/grass/water/dirt is perfect for him to play with his Little People, monster trucks, matchbox cars, mini skateboards, Legos and animal figures. He seriously spends most of his playtime using this table in one way or another.

Only thing I am not thrilled with is that the table top is divided into 2 parts so there is a seam down the middle. Not that big of a deal but kinda annoying-looking when you have it flipped to the plain espresso-finished side.

Definitely one of our best kid purchases ever!

UPDATE: 1 Year Later

We have now had this table for almost exactly a year and everything I said originally is still true! It has held up beautifully! Now 80% of the time my son uses the tabletop for something other than trains usually Legos, Jake & the Neverland Pirates, Army Guys, etc it is awesome with all the scenery on it especially the water (perfect for the Tic Toc Croc). The train and all parts have all held up perfectly as well. I did easily add tiny velcro strips to several of the curved track pieces and that works perfectly to keep the track in place. The top of the table has a good amount of dings and dents but it would have to be made of concrete not to with how he plays on it, and it really doesn't show because of the scenery printed on it. He uses this table for hours and hours each day it is where he plays most of the day. I still consider it our best kid purchase.

I really wanted a train table that came with storage underneath.

PROS: This table cannot be beat in looks (it is very nice-looking) or the amount of storage that is available underneath (and no need to spend extra $$ on the storage like so many other train tables!).

Another nice feature of this train table is that you can flip over the top and it looks like a normal coffee table, so your living room doesn't always have to look like a daycare.

CONS: The expresso veneer on the train table is a really nice rich color, but it does seem to chip off easily in some areas.And this train table does NOT have a lip, so trains, cars, etc. will roll right off the table top.We solved that problem by painting and attaching a 1/2" wood lip around the top.

Our daughter loves this train table.She lit up like a Christmas tree when she first saw it and plays with it every day.Overall, I think this table was a good deal for the price and I'm glad we purchased it.
