This set is cute and functional, and inspires creative play. The hammock is made of green felt and held in place with some elastic loops around the mushroom posts. The mushroom posts came out of the base easily and I didn't want the hammock piece to get lost, so I used a little craft glue to secure them in place. Most importantly, the fairy dolls DO fit and lay on the hammock without falling off!
If you decide NOT to purchase puzzle base for the house, the green in this set adds a nice punch of color to the collection. My one complaint about the green base isn't sealed. I assume that it was stained with some kind of natural non-toxic water-based stain, but no sealer. The paint on the other pieces is a semi-gloss, so needed no sealant. If your child spills any liquid on the leaf, or any of the green stained wooden pices (such as the puzzle base for the house, or green chairs with living room), the green stain will bleed. My children haven't put the pieces in their mouthes yet, but one of them leaned over with a sippy cup and when condensation dripped onto the pieces, water spots were left showing the light wood. Our granddaughter and her friends love these sets of furniture for their fairy friends!
They are durable and adorable...constantly used and are holding up to the constant play. The Mushroom Hammock is a great idea for any gnome or fairy habitat! We have most of the Enchantmints pieces now (acquired in stages), and this adds color and interest to the outside of the tree lodge.Plus, as a reviewer already mentioned, this is not merely ornamental. We did substitute a Woodland Friends Family, rather than the fairy dolls. They don't stand up too well but they are flexible, so they fit very nicely into the hammock leaf.I was amazed at just how much detail goes into these toys. The only thing about the hammock that I did not care for (and it is a small issue) was the color. The indoor furniture is a darker, brick red with white dots. The hammock we received is lighter and more orangey, with no dots.Perhaps it's just a different species of mushroom. The gnomes don't seem to mind, it gets constant use!
