Scrabble Diamond Anniversary Edition
Let's start with the good points:
It folds in half, so it takes much less storage space than previous versions, and there's no cardboard box to get ruined. And the fold is on one of the grid lines, not right through the center of the center column, so it doesn't hurt the aesthetic. The closure is a hidden magnet, which is pretty sleek. And there's even a handle for easy carrying. All the tiles and racks fit into the two slide out trays, so you don't have to worry about pieces falling out when you open the board. There's no clear plastic grid covering the board like the 50th anniversary set and other previous editions, which is great, because I always had a problem with glare on those versions. But there's still a raised grid to keep the letters in place. The entire board rotates on wheels on the bottom of the board, and the wheels are wisely aligned to force it to rotate about a fixed point, instead of rolling all over the table.
I only have a few complaints that prevent me from giving it 5 stars:
1.) They changed the color scheme of the board! They switched the double word and triple word colors, and the triple letter is now lime green instead of dark blue.I guess it doesn't matter that much, but I don't like them messing with tradition in this case, especially on an Anniversary edition board. It just doesn't feel like an official Scrabble board if the colors aren't right. In fact, I probably wouldn't use this board at a club or tournament, just because the color scheme makes it look more like a kid's toy than a serious adult game.I sure hope they go back to the traditional colors on future editions.
2.) The racks are curved I'm not sure if this is good or bad yet, but I don't really see the advantage to it, and I think it will take some getting used to.The tiles still seem to slide ok on the rack.
3.) The instruction book is just barely too wide to fit in the drawers without bending.Of course I'll never need to use the instruction book, but it seems likely to get ruined this way, and it would be nice to keep everything in good shape.I don't see why they couldn't have made it 1/4" narrower so it fits neatly in the drawer.
4.) Even with the curved edges, the board will still hit your rack when it rotates if you're not careful (but it doesn't knock your letters off your rack, which is good).A completely circular board would be ideal.
5.) The list of 2-letter words in the instruction book is not up to date with the 4th edition word list (QI and ZA are missing), even though it was printed in 2008!Again, experienced players will never look at the instruction book, but that's not good for new players, and it's kind of a suprising oversight.
Most of these complaints are pretty minor.Overall, I'm very pleased with this board, and it seems to me they are one step closer to designing the perfect board!
I love SCRABBLE but I am disappointed with the DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY (60 year) Edition of the game. Perhaps I expected too much based on the wonderful 50 Year Edition of SCRABBLE. I love the 50 year edition and play it often so I jumped at the chance to add yet another SCRABBLE game to my collection. The manufacturer did have an innovative board design which makes the game more portable. The board folds in half to become a hard plastic case with built in handles. Unfortunately, the tile racks are cheap, there is no timer and the colors on the board aren't attractive. I doubt that I'll play with this version of the game unless I am traveling.

This is a great edition of the classic Scrabble game.I really liked the design of the molded plastic case which opened up to reveal a raised-grid to keep your tiles in place. The unit is rugged and sturdy and would travel quite well thanks to the built-in handle and all-in-one construction. The bottom of the case has wheels to allow for easy pivoting from player-to-player and has two slide-out drawers that hold all of the game pieces.Speaking of game pieces, this inludes snazzy black wooden tiles with silver lettering, a soft velvety bag to hold them in and futuristic rounded tile-stands in clear red plastic (as opposed to the wooden ones of days of yore). The design of the actual playfield is less striking than previous versions as this one seems "candy-coated", but is still nice enough.

I have every edition of Scrabble from the 1950s through the present, so I'm kind of a die-hard. That being said, this Diamond Edition is a newly revamped Scrabble game...what could better raise the heartrate of a word nerd?
The new set is very cheerful looking and the board finally moves so all can push it around and really see what's what. The curved racks are great. Just a few down sides. One is, they use the same color in this edition for the double letter score that they used for the triple letter score in the original, and the color that was the triple word score in the original is now the color for the double word score! I love that this set looks more like eye candy, but couldn't they have thought up a few slightly different hues for those spots, instead of changing what we're all used to? I'm not a reactionary I love change, but this just seems sort of unnecessary. It is annoying for quite a while, but one can adapt. The other minor thing is that there's no score pad. That is greatly outweighed, however, by the fact that this great set can be easily toted around because it folds up into a neat little lunch-boxy thing. You can leave your Onyx edition with the box the size of New Jersey at home.
Thanks, Scrabble. We'll see you at the Platinum Edition??

While not touted as a travel game, I am very impressed with the case. There are drawers for holding the letters and it closes very nicely. Just the addition of a rubber band or string would keep it nicely together for travel. There are squares to hold the blocks in place and wheels to rotate the board. An excellent value for a fun and classic game!
Activity Table w/ 6 Bins
Atomic 2 in 1 Flip Table
Build quality actually seems pretty good for the price. All of the main pieces are thick particle board with a black veneer.Everything was pre-drilled and most (though not all) of the holes lined up perfectly. The instructions were also very good.Like a previous reviewer stated, most of the connectors are bolts, but I was able to find a socket that would fit the nuts from my socket-wrench set (I forget the size, but it was metric rather than English).I did need to use an extender to get to many connections. That being said, the included wrench actually worked pretty well by itself, so well that my 6 year-old daughter was able to tighten many of the nuts without aid. When the table turns, it turns very easily with corner locks that clamp strongly. My only complaint is that there is a lot of friction when locking the table in place.I've already scraped some of the veneer off of one of the corner locks with only a few turns of the table.
The air hockey plays really well.Air flow is pretty strong, and the puck hovers nicely over the table, moving really fast when hit. We've had some problems with puck stability (especially when I hit it), so beware of placing any fragile objects in the vicinity.I was surprised that the table came with four mallets and four pucks, so four people can play at a time. Also, in contrast to the Amazon description, the table does not have electronic scoring. That was actually something that I was look for, but to tell the truth, the sliding score keepers on each side of the table are pretty good and provide an opportunity for some good smack-talking and score flaunting. To play the table, you will likely need an extension cord to get it working, but only a cheap two pronged one.
The pool table is just OK.There is a lot of friction on the felt, so the balls don't tend to drift too far, usually only getting one wall bounce off a good break. The pockets are just wood cavities in the table, so I do wonder if they will eventually cause the air hockey table underneath to warp in spots, but I doubt that there will be enough force to really cause a problem.I didn't have any drift or pocket sink problems that another reviewer has noted. The table comes with everything you need, including two playable cues, a good set of balls, triangle rack, and two chalks.I would have liked to have a cue rack mounted on the table, though.
Now, for the hard details. This thing is really, I mean really, heavy. That caused problems from delivery through build for us.First, when delivered by ABF (from Amazon), it was just delivered by one guy with a hand truck.Do not expect it to get anywhere near where you want it.Mine was delivered to my driveway on a crate with a knowing grin from the guy that I was up a creek. There is no way to reasonably lift the box, no matter how many people you have, if you want to get it through any normal door or down a stairway. When I opened the box, everything was packed fairly well, and we were able to move most of the pieces down to the basement without too much problem. The air hockey table was fairly easy to move with two people, but the pool table was a whole other story. Two very strong people probably could have lifted it, but I mean football strong.I was fortunate to have four people around who were willing to lift and move the table on level ground and up a few steps, but we slid it down the basement stairs rather than hold it.
After building it, you then have to turn the thing over.I would have loved some guidance in how to do that without breaking the legs.I kind of feel like we were lucky to get it turned over without any problems, but maybe the legs are really strong enough.I did put some pillows under them to try and distribute the weight a bit.
Once upright, the table moves pretty easily with two people.
The 2-in-one table is a blast for the kids and us adults. :)I had to deal with the seller on this purchase and they were a joy to work with. What can I say? It arrives ready to put together, comes together with ease, and is the center piece of my basement; everyone who sees it wants one.

Overall, this is a nice table. The air hockey works well. The pool table is nice enough for a combination flip table. A note regarding the Amazon product description this table does NOT HAVE ELECTRONIC HOCKEY SCORING.Amazon says it does.Assembly was easy but tedious. While the parts lined up nicely and are accurately predrilled, you can't use a socket wrench (or any wrench) on the bolts since the chinese bolt heads do not conform to any particular socket/wrench size, metric or SAE.I resorted to adjustable wrench and vise grips as necessary.

Depending on your needs this could be an OK item to purchase, and I'll try to explain in more detail below.I got a good deal on it through another website so I feel like I got a very good price. The item arrived via freight and the truck driver took it via pallet jack into my garage. From there, I brought it down to my basement piece by piece, since the box weighs somewhere in the vicinity of 350 lbs.The hockey table and pool table are separate pieces. My wife and I were able to carry the hockey piece down but I needed another strong friend to help with the pool table piece, as it must weight close to 200 lbs.Once I got everything down, the overall assembly took me about 4-5 hours mostly by myself. The design is pretty good and the particle board is pretty strong. However, some of the veneer started peeling off immediately like it wasn't glued correctly in the first place.I expect more to come off over time. The holes matched up pretty well for drilling of screws and bolts but the lines of the table don't look perfect when it's all put together.Probably just something I'll notice and no one else. The table is very sturdy and rotating between air hockey and pool is very easy and smooth.
HOCKEY TABLE One of the first things I noticed was the hockey table seems to bow down in the middle a little, but it doesn't affect play. One part of the end rail on one side is pretty dead, but again it doesn't affect play very much. Also, one of the goal openings has a lip which prevents the puck from going in at times. That is very irritating and I'll have to sand it down.Otherwise, the puck moves well and the length of the table is good.I would say the air hockey, despites some issues, is pretty good.Just wish it was about 4" wider for pool.
POOL TABLE Here's where the real disappointment lies.If you are looking to play a meaningful game of pool forget it.The length is ok but it needs several more inches of width. The rails are very dead, you get one bounce off and that's about it.Worst of all, mine has drift toward the pockets on each side (not a leveling issue). Therefore, if you strike the cue ball at lower speeds it will veer off a little, especially when it's within 10 inches of the rails. For kids who haven't played much pool it's probably fine.
Overall it depends on your expectations. If you're looking for something to keep the kids occupied for under $800 it's probably worth it, since you'd have to pay $1500 for a good pool table. If I had it to do over again, I would spend $500 on a good air hockey table and get a ping pong top.I suppose whenever you buy a combo table you sacrifice quality for flexibility. So far, my kids have enjoyed it.

Renting rooms in my house the last six months has helped me tell what amenities make the most difference in keeping my roommates (i.e. my customers) happy. This table, with the right accessories, has been huge. When I moved I talked to a salesman at a pool hall that deals in Olhausen tables and he said people have trouble getting rid of cheap tables like these. How cheap is it? I saw an air hockey table at a thrift store, nothing special, for $500 and they don't deliver. Speaking of which, this thing weights about 450lbs in the (single) box they deliver it in! And while most shippers will put an item like this in your garage if your driveway is short and level, they have the right per their shipping contract to literally leave it at the base of your driveway and, well, drive away. It's so annoying when people give negative reviews based on the 'facts of life' with freight shipping. After four months or so of fairly extensive use it looks like some of the black vinyl/plastic covering over the particle board will have to be glued down eventually. The table comes with levelers and even though mine is in a garage that slopes toward the street slightly with some small squares of plywood and a carpenters level it's now exactly level, which is a big deal for billiards. You'll want to replace the billiard cues, or at least have some better ones available for serious games, and also triangle pucks are a lot of fun to play with. Maybe a nine-ball rack, a set of swirl balls, and Aramith makes a fluorescent tubing/balls set for billiards where I had enough tubing left over to accent the rails on the air hockey side.

It's fairly easy to assemble. The only thing that isn't a favorite is that sometimes the pump action on the main mast doesn't always work initially. I've discovered that if I take it out and flip it upside down for a moment, then the pump action works again. The pirate ship water table is cute and my son likes it.However, there is a big problem with the plug.It is very difficult to keep it plugged and 9 times out of 10, the water leaks out.I feel like it is an endless battle and makes the table not very useful to us.I would not buy it for this reason...very frustrating for something of this price.

We bought this toy a year ago and once it's highlight feature (battery powered pump that drives water up the mast, presumably dribbling down to drive propellers etc. FAILED inside of a month), it became a tub. It's other parts boring and scattered. The pump fails early. The propellers on the mast were difficult to turn even when the pump functioned (not sized for water spray) but that didn't last long.Look, the concept has HUGE potential which is why I am particularly angry. They didn't spend 1/2 a day debugging their design and thinking about usage (just sales appeal).I would not only steer clear of this unit given it's price but the company in general.Yes, I am that pissed off.Going to the dump this weekend and this unit is exiting the household.

All For Color Chevron Lap Desk
Melissa & Doug Color-A-Mat Fire Engine
My son is 19 mos old and these frustrate him. When the tip runs out, he needs my help to advance them. The vibrancy of the colors are horrible (we have the M & D triangle crayons and those are fabulous, but DON'T use them on these mats...it doesn't wash off). My niece got the Alphabet mat and these crayons were so hard for her to use on that mat because they were fat and chubby and so light (low vibrancy) she could barely see. Pencil works great, but she wanted to use "color" (don't use colored pencils...they don't wash off either) and quickly got frustrated/bored with her mat.
I have found that Crayola Washable Crayons work wonderful on these mats and are just as easy to clean off. The color vibrancy is better and my toddler needs no help from me. And there are more color choices (which at his age isn't necessary, but for older kids is a nice option). My Nephew (4yr) covered the ENTIRE mat in Red Crayola, very heavy handed, I think the thickness of the crayon on the mat was thicker than the mat itself, and it still washed right off with a baby wipe.We have bought several of these color a mats for my 3 year old son and he loves them.We take them with us everywhere. We have some in the car and lots at home.We like using them when we go out to eat at restaurants and to other places where he needs to be occupied. These keep his attention very well, and have also helped to improve his coloring skills.

The players gain points by betting on the lemmings, i.e., who will finish first, and by accepting victory conditions, e.g., pink and green finish in the top three, etc.
I've played this game with five separate groups now, and in each case we immediately played another game of "Lemming Mafia."
Here is the Dr. Games evaluation:
GO/NO GO criterion
* Complexity: Lemming Mafia scores well on this one! Everything is done in terms of pictures, and the rules are simple enough that most five year olds could understand the game, but there is a lot of room for indirect approaches. There are a variety of strategies that work in the game based on how much strategy you choose to inject in your play.At the simplest level, you could just select your favorite color to win.One in six times, that strategy wins.At the high end of complexity, for the mathematically inclined, you can carefully estimate the likely die rolls and speculate about your opponents goals based on past actions to develop a detailed strategy. Based on experience, this probably results in victory about one in four times.
* Balanced: The game is completely balanced. All goals and all lemmings are equally likely to win.
* Chance: The game has the appropriate level of chance. Each turn, the players roll dice to determine which lemmings they can move. The players can choose which spaces to put the moved lemmings on.It is a nice balance of luck and strategy.
* Clarity: In ten games, there has never been a question about the rules. The rules are written clearly and are easy to understand.
* Reasonable Time: Once you know the rules, you can play a game from start to finish with four players in less than 30 minutes.
BONUS criterion
* Social: The rules light mechanics encourage social interactions during play. While my groups did not bargain on which lemmings to move, I can imagine that a game could include some horse trading in terms of helping each other out.
* Unique/interesting Mechanic: The idea of betting on the lemmings rather than assigning each player a particular color is a very nice mechanic. Also, the longer you wait to choose a winner, the more points you get, but you run the risk of not being able to select at all.Nicely done!
* Inform: Um ... not so much on this one.
* Rewards Throughout: Each time the lemming lead changes, the players get a boost or a blow to their standing.Lemming Mafia does a good job of keeping things exciting.
I highly recommend adding this game to your family bookshelf.
In service,
RichThis is a very simple game that we play once in a while in our gaming group as an in between game before long complicated gaming sessions. Its very simple but alo very fun.
We also use this game to introduce new gamers into the gaming world since its very easy to learn and follow and it can get people into the world of gaming without scaring them off (for example starting a newbie with Arkham horror...they will never come back :P).
Must buy!Over Christmas Break, our college kids were home with their siblings, and our grandkids came over.My mom was here. From great-grandma down to 8 year old grandson, we all really enjoyed this game!
The characters are adorable in a cute, dumb-looking, clueless kind of way. The premise is funny--really?! helping the rodents to their demise faster?!It cracks me up, and we were hooked on it.This game is fun and easy to play. We play if often, the game last about 30 minutes or so and it's fun to see the outcome of the race to see who finishes first. It may or may not be to your advantage. The game takes some strategy, and you don't know until the end and tally up your points who wins.not to competitive. It's a great game for two persons. This was purchased as a gift. Amazon shipped it quickly and it was packaged well. We have played it with the gift recipient and it is a terrific family game. It's a relaxed game a little strategy; a lot of luck! You can talk and have fun while playing.

I thought they were vey small, but then again they are for a toy train. The price is a bit high for the size.but on the bright side they look great. I have not taken them out the package yet so I don't know how durable they are. They are good, but much smaller then i thought. They seem to be smaller then the Caraboo that come with one of the train sets.My grandsons could not get the people to stand up when they were placed alongside the Polar Express tracks. They need a stand that will secure their feet and keep them upright with little need to balance the legs correctly.Alternatively, a redesign of the legs and feet so that they stand up on their own would be warranted. The five-year-old was frustrated and decided not to use them.It was a big disappointment.Bachmann Trains Snap - Fit E - Z Track Steel Alloy World's Greatest Hobby Track Pack

I purchased this expansion set for my 65 years old dad because he is building a nice HO scale layout. This box give us the flexibility to add a second level rail road over the first one crossing an elevated mountain. His layout is about 3mts long x 1.5mts wide. We used the set to complete the elevated path. The kit is great, high quality as usual from Bachmann, the cd is very useful if you need additional ideas. I strongly recommend this set if you want to expand your hobby. :) Regards, Gustavo Valerin (San Jose, Costa Rica).Bachmann makes three completer sets.We were a bit confused which one to buy, so I did a spreadsheet comparing components. The Track Pack is the very best deal BY FAR you get the most track for your money, hands down, and Amazon.com's price beat everything on ebay as well, so I liked avoiding the stress of bidding. We found the best bang for our buck by buying the 14-pc pier set separately, instead of as part of another completer set that had a train station (my kids don't pay that much attention to accessories, they are so into track, track, and more track!).With their original starter train set that they got for Christmas (just a circle track), the 14 pc pier set, and this track pack, they were able to build a 3-leaf clover set up with a bridge to go over and under, and an additional fourth "leg" of track going out to two separate bumpers where they park for the night. The switches included in the set are THE BEST and my two boys have so much fun switching their train from one track to another.I think switches and bridges made all the difference for my boys the little circle was lame after about an hour! We spent $50 on their original Christmas set that came with the train, and the boys paid for the rest from their savings fun accounts: $80 (Track Pack including shipping) and $18 (14-pc Pier set, also from Amazon.com,including shipping), and I think the boys are going to content (not to mention a bit broke!) for a very long time!

Plan Toys Plan Toy Balancing Cactus
My children, two and four, were immediately taken with it. We haven't yet played it as a 'game' but that's really just a bonus interpretation of its uses anyway. It's fun to just stack it in really precarious ways (ie. those other than what's pictured) and see how long you can keep it from toppling while building it up as tall or wide as possible. If you were to build the cactus, as is pictured, it is very attractive and proves to be quite stable. This is nice for shelving the toy when I'm too busy to supervise my youngest with it. The real challenges are not in building what is expected, but are self-imposed; pushing the limits of what can be balanced atop this generally stable base.
This toy/game consists of a total of 19 pieces that fit together with a peg-and hole system. Each progressively smaller piece has less holes, and the coral-orange pieces have no holes, and so cannot be built upon. Another reviewer mentioned that the pegs fit loosely in the holes and this is true. A piece will often swivel downward from the weight of a successive piece. This doesn't bother me, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
Here are the pieces that come with this set, and their measurements (information that seems difficult to come by per my observation before ordering):
1 Unfinished Wooden Base (5 holes): 3.5" tall x 2.5" (widest point at top) 1.5" (at bottom)
3 Large Dark Green Pieces (3 holes): about 3.25" tall x 1.75" wide
3 Medium Green Pieces (2 holes): 2.75" x 1.5"
3 Medium (Slightly Lighter) Green Pieces (2 holes): 2.75" x 1.5"
3 Small Red Pieces (1 hole) 2" x 1"
3 Small Yellow Pieces (1 hole) 2" x 1"
3 Small Coral-Orange Pieces (0 holes) 2" x 1"
Of note, especially with the many reviews stating that kids under three love this toy, is that the age recommendations are spot on. If you allow a younger child to play with this toy, it is important to be mindful of the fact that the smaller pieces are precisely the right size to cut off their airway if they were to accidentally swallow one.
Other than that already assumed issue I think this is a wonderful toy with the potential to be enjoyed by young and old alike.
I purchased this product for my twin 3 year olds. They love it! They play with it every day.My only complaint is that the pieces seem to fit less snug after lots of use so the pieces turn as you add a new piece but I would absolutely buy this again based on this purchase. My twins love building the pieces as high as possible and I know they are learning in the process. Great toy!

Not entirely sure it's worth the price... almost felt like I could have googled and found same/similar questions and popped them into a word doc.
Would I buy them again... yes, but only because I'm reusing them for several parties. If it was only once, probably not.Recently used this at a bachelorette party and all the girls and the bride loved it. It was great to pull out while we were waiting for our dinner, waiting around in traffic, waiting in line for the club etc. A few of the girls didn't know each other, so it was great ice-opener and something fun going on for in-between activities. I got this for my sister's bachelorette party. Spread it out all over the buffet table face down and had people take turns picking up cards, answering the question themself (if they could some are very bride-specific) and then asking the bride. It quickly evolved into everyone answering the questions. They couldn't stop picking cards even though we had a fun pinata to hit and lots to eat! Great icebreaker!
