Scrabble Platinum Edition with Rotating Board
Scrabble is, well, Scrabble. Enough reviews have been written about Scrabble that I'll try to avoid duplication.This particular set is reasonably well made. The board is sturdy, although plastic, and the recessed squares for letters are invaluable on a tossing boat, they'd also be usefull for tremors as one in our location has.
The holders, letters and pedestal all are substantial it's now almost three months into ownership and its still intact the box is sturdy, if large, and its easy to re-pack.
It was expensive for a game [personal and relative opinion], more than we've ever paid before, but this one really appears to be a case of you get what you pay for.
If you want a very functional Scrabble game that looks set to last years with evenminimal amount of care, then this could be ideal. If you need to show and display try the Onyx or Franklin Mint versions.

Everything you need to play Scrabble including a timer and score sheets. Of course you don't have to use the timer. Nice set, I wish the board had a layer of plastic over it to protect the cardboard like my Mom's old board. They don't make them like they use to... but this is probably the best of the newer boards. Most important, this one rotates unlike some of the cheap sets.

It should be a little less heavy. Nevertheless, I love it. I bought the standard game weeks before but had to put it away; the tiles moved all over when playing; this was distracting & very annoying. Some of them were smaller than the others in the same set. Too bad for the expense and the expectations. Scrabble in the house is a must. This particular item is a bit too large and sadly, not well designed. I should reword that, too much design. The trim on the board is cumbersome, even unnecessary and the lazy Susan height is way too low. To resolve the issue, I placed a large book under it and that works well. The letters and bag are impressive but the letter holders are made of very cheap plastic which downgrades this product immensely. If they would get rid of the ~ one inch trim, raise the lazy Susan a couple inches and replace the holder with decent ones, I'd declare this version almost perfect. Also, many have mentioned the size which is a bit too much. You have to consider the weight a bit heavy. Storage is a problem due to its size but overall it works. The instructions are very well written with even a section for helping with strategy. I thought I knew how to play a decent game but the strategy section was enlightening. Recommend for a die-hard player but I'd be a bit leery to recommend this to a now-and-then player. Due to the hassle of setting it up, it may deter anyone from using it as often.

This toy came highly recommended on a popular family magazine's holiday gift guide, so I ignored the fact that there were no reviews from customers here on Amazon yet, which I usually depend on to findout what to expect from a toy. We've just finished playing it for the first time though, and I have to say, I'm really disappointed in this toy, and probably won't be going on the word of that magazine's recommendations in the future.The main complaint I have about this product is the design and function of the fish-shaped pockets that must be attached to the sides and corners of the table. Each pocket collects and holds the balls shot into them, where they are held in a deep well at the base of each pocket and can only be retrieved by removing the entire fish-pocket from the game table and tilting the pocket until the ball(s) roll out into your hand. The directions that come with the game actually advise that this is the best way to retrieve balls from a fish pocket. However, when this needs to happen during regular game play when the cue-ball is accidentally knocked into one of the pockets, for instance it simply can't be done without disrupting the positions of every other ball on the table. Not a great way to play a game of pool. Further, the pockets are also difficult to remove, prompting my 7 year old to reach a finger in to lift the ball out instead, where her finger got solidly caught in the trap-door mechanism that causes the fish to appear to have eaten the ball, indicating a potential danger to small children.
The shark shooters are actually very fun to use. They have three levels of power to choose from when you are shooting with them, though there is truly not much difference from one setting to the next, and you'll find that the strength with which you strike the ball depends more on the distance you hold the shooter away from the cue ball than which setting you put the shooter on.
The pool balls are small, and of a decent weight for their size. Though heavier balls would mean an increased rate of sinking your shot, and lessen the likelihood that the balls would simply bounce off of the edge of the table and fly across the room, which happened several times during our game play.
The game surface itself was not at all satisfactory when we opened the box it is covered with a flocked fabric that, out of the box, had several small air bubbles underneath, which, anyone knows, will alter the direction of the balls when game is in play. We were able to press these out by running a finger over the bubbles a couple of times until they became flat, but in doing so, rubbed some of the flocking off of the surface, which is also not good for game play.
This was not an expensive toy, so all considered, the quality is about what I expected for the price. If that were all there was to consider, I'd be satisfied with the purchase and we'd enjoy it while it lasts. But the design flaws in the ball retrieval system which don't allow for a complete game to be played without interruption make this game not worth the few dollars it cost to purchase it.

We started collecting Geotrax 2 years ago.My only complaint was that the trains did not go in reverse.I'm glad to see that 'problem' was solved with this new addition to the geotrax system.I originally bought the geotrax toys for my 3 year old son who loved trains.He absolutely loved it.What I did not expect was that my 9 year old and 11 year old girls would also like to design tracks and play with it. It does take up a lot of room if you start adding on to the set. We have ours set up in the basement and it gets played with several times a day.My 4 year old is great a designing tracks, he especially likes to use the elevation sets to make double decker tracks.The system is so easy to use I don't have to help mush at all.
We also have a few of the Thomas train sets. I have to say the boys do like to play with this set as well but it requires a lot more adult help.The tracks can only go together one way and the boys now 4 1/2 and 3 have problems getting it together.But they do like the fact the the trains are the same as on TV.The Thomas set was used so seldom at home that we donated it to grandmas house where it is a treat to get to play with it.The Geo trax set still ranks #1 with my kids.
This is an amazing complete set, the remote control is great and the reverse addittion also. Really easy to asemble so my 1 and 1/2 years son can play completely alone.

We bought this set four years ago when my son was 3. Now he (7 yrs) and his 4 yr old sister play with it together. Beware it's big, but lots of fun. The kids use creativity to design the sets, but most times I'm down on the floor lending support. I also like that year after year the grandparents could buy the smaller track for a reasonable price and the kids were never disappointed. The neighbors, cousins, friends all gravitate to the set when they are here. We break it down every few days/weeks, store it in a huge storage container and it tucks away in the toy closet. Only one of the one-thousand pieces ever broke (it was our fault) and we glued it back together. Love this toy, but watch out. Some of the units were on recall for lead paint.

My wife and I love to play games after the kids go to sleep. She's killed me at Scrabble recently and so I thought this would be a perfect game to take the pressure off. With just the two of us, it is like our own private "newly weds Game". There are ways to play it with much larger groups, but recently we've just enjoyed reading all the imaginative questions and seeing if the other one can choose the right answer.Next week I plan on breaking it out at a dinner party with our friends and seeing how much fun it is with a few glasses of wine! This game is definitely diverse enough to keep two of us entertained or a whole group laughing. I would highly recommend it!
I see that there is 12+ version as well which might be great for car trips with the kids. The amount of "adult" humor is very minimal, I would probably place it at the pg-13 level rather than R.

I don't know how this review item got in with toys but I stumbled across this tablecloth looking for something else and just had to have it.I love raspberries.Being a party tablecloth, the plastic is a little thinner, but I couldn't find any at the grocery store where I got my last one and didn't want to go all the way out to (big box store) or (other big box stores) for a plastic tablecloth.I don't mind and the companion items are nice but I'm not having a party.The only thing is the color process in the stamping didn't line up quite right in one of the passes but it doesn't matter, kind of makes it look painted.The bottom line is that it's cheery for my work table.

This company will only engrave the initials on the "bottom" also known as the "lid" (the part that removes so you can insert the chalk.)However, any pool player with any knowledge knows better than to chalk through a hole the sides will scrape the ferrule, the tip will never be chalked properly, and the cube will wear down the middle instead of easily across the top.So we put the chalk in these things upside-down and remove the lid.It therefore makes no sense to have the lid engraved.This product will be a great item once the company figures out how to engrave the side rather than the lid.

Like a previous buyer I got this set on sale at ToysRUs, but for $59.99. The buyer that got it for $39.99 got an amazing deal, great job. The set is pretty nice overall. The train tracks, trains, cars, and motorized car ramp are decent enough quality for this price and seem durable so far. Sometimes the automatic train undercarriage stop/go mechanism by the motorized car ramp stops the train literally in the roadway (the undercarriage stop not the gate), but it seems its caused by human error throwing off the timing while controlling it in manual mode, and then switching to auto mode. Its fairly easy to set it right while in manual mode. Still I think the logic should recognize that when the gate goes up, the undercarriage stop has to stay down no matter what, at least while in auto mode.
The car ramp works well unless you just go crazy with the manual button (like my son does sometimes). In that case cars and the train may collide or too many cars enter the ramp and can topple over each other. I am a little worried the little plastic "flaps" which pull the cars up the ramp may break eventually. I say this because if you feed a slightly elongated vehicle into the ramp it causes the flap to bend more and push the car against the side of the ramp. The cars that come with the set, and any other cars of similar length, are fine. But still, even they eventually may cause the flaps to bend more permanently, even under normal usage. I wish the flaps were better constructed so I wouldn't have to worry, but I guess for this price it is what it is. I also wished the car ramp could be used fully manually, i.e. pushing the cars up manually. While the system does push manually I dont believe it is supposed to be used this way, and it doesn't feel like it is.
Above are more words of caution than complaints against the product. But if I had paid over $100 then they would be real complaints against the product since I would expect much higher quality at twice the price.
The only thing I'm truly unhappy with this product so far, is the cardboard roadway "puzzle pieces". The concept of puzzle pieces is fine especially if you plan to expand or re-design the set, but why Tomica didnt use the same plastics as the stations and parking lots, is beyond me. The heavy cardboard pieces are slightly bowed, therefore they don't create a perfectly flat roadway and they dont fit together perfectly. I believe this is a noticable design flaw worth one full star off my review. Also even the plastics have fairly weak connectors which can come apart a bit too easily. I believe even at $59.99 price tag these items should have been done better.
While it sounds like a lot of complaints, I like the overall design and concept of this set, and it functions pretty much as advertised. I also like that it can be expanded quite a bit and the expansion mini-sets seem to be priced right. I will probably invest even more in add-ons because of the fair-enough quality and decent pricing I was able to get. Only time will tell how durable this is. I was struggling to rate this 3 stars or 4. I think 3.5 is more correct but I feel that I just really need to nail this product on the cardboard roadway pieces and plastic parking area inter-connects. I am still happy I bought this product and would still recommend it at the right price.

I thought I should be dad of the year, so I bought this for my 2 year old for Christmas. He absolutely loves it, and kept bugging me to take the batteries out of his favorite toy and put them in this so he can play with this instead (since I'm too cheap for c-cells apparently)
Its sturdy, and he learned quickly which buttons to press to let the train go and to raise the barriers for the cars to roll around etc. Not really educational but something for him to practice his motor skills which are now finer than a bleach blonde country girls hair

My son and I just purchased the "Mega Station" and it's a big hit. My son it just turning four and I told him he was old enough for a big boys train set. Tomica caught my eye watching train video on youtube. I was excited to see Toys r us carrying the brand but the with limited selection. I actually found mine at a discount store for for 65% off the retail price so I couldn't pass it up.This toy has not disappointed my son or myself. The detail is great and there is enough to do for both of us to stay entertained and playing together for awhile. There are some stickers to put on and some are tricky. I recommend using tweezers, they really help.
This toy takes four "C" batteries and this makes the train go faster then the "AA" Thomas trains so Thomas gets over run a lot.
All in all I all I am looking forward in building on with more sets.
It's great fun and my son loves that we play with this together. The hugs and kisses are a sure sign of that.

We love Tomica and we have bought almost every product sold in the US.This set is well made and works perfectly.The buttons and controls were very entertaining.However the interest only lasted a day or so.It is basically a circular track with a nifty railroad crossing.My son uses the paper roads much more often than the whole set.
