Super Scrabble Deluxe Edition

30 some years ago i received a "deluxe scrabble board" I still have it today, it has a swivel base and wood letters. Over the past several years I have enjoyed the "super scrabble" game more and bought one for myself; recently I wanted to give one as a gift and was very excited to see the "deluxe super scrabble" available so I purchased it.

The game fell short of my expectations it does not actually have a swivel base but turns fairly easily, the letter don't lock in place easily and are rather annoying! All in all, the quality is just not what I expected, but, it IS "super scrabble" and fun to play regardless of it's quality!

Compared with the previous Super Scrabble Deluxe Edition this version has smaller plastic letter tiles and a smaller non-folding board.The 21×21 tile playing area is roughly the same size as the 15×15 tile area of standard Scrabble, but the lettering on the board and tiles is still easy to read.It uses the "Tile Lock" design rather than a raised grid to keep pieces in place.The pegs do not hold the pieces as firmly as the description might imply; I worried that cleanup would be difficult, but while the pieces stay in place when the board is moved they easily fall out when the board is tipped or turned over.The board does not rotate as such (i.e. it has no ball bearings or wheels) but it is so light that it can be easily turned on a smooth surface or even lifted (on a tablecloth, for example).On the one I received there are one or two squares where the little plastic posts which hold the pieces in place are asymmetric so that a letter tile doesn't quite fit.If there were a separate rating for item quality, I'd give that three stars: it doesn't feel "deluxe".

I was happy with the price of this. I bought it for my mom as we play a ton of Scrabble when I visit her. The description is misleading as it said that it has a rotating base. It does NOT have one. It just has little pads on the base that makes it a bit easier to turn. We haven't played a game in it yet so will update if there are any other problems with the game itself.

This version of the game was quite expensive and I expected a superior product.The letter squares are light weight plastic that are hard to keep on the board.It has grids but they are smaller and less effective than other scrabble games. The letter holders are also very light and unstable upon using.Do not waste your money.

This is an over-rated and disappointing Scrabble game. They made the tiles smaller and the playing area too large. The tiles probably fit well in the hands of an 8 yr old child but not an adult's! Try pickingthem up without dropping them. Worse still is putting them in their appropriate squares on the board. They really don't don't go in that smoothly and if you do get them in, they oftentimes slide out of position. The item is a disappointment because one expects to enjoy the game. In my experience the game was not a fun time. Reading the minuscule values on the various squares on the board taxes one's eyes.The company should have supplied telescope lenses to read the small print!

It's poorly constructed. I had to buy a 16" lazy susan to make turning the board easy. One would have thought that for the price one paid for the board there would have been a lazy susan base.Because it doesn't have one, moving the board around is a drag!Don't waste your money on this Scrabble game. Keep to the old one as the tiles are bigger and sturdier than these cheap plastic ones.Furthermore, the dark blue stands for holding the tiles, is flimsy; you'll find them falling over more times than standing up properly. Suggestion: Save your money and buy something that's better designed and convenient for use!Thumbs down!
