Step2 Splash N Scoop Bay

Step2 Splash N Scoop BayI bought this item for my 1 and 3 year old at my local Costco for the same price that Amazon is selling it.

I thought it would be fun for my kids to have a sand and water table. About 10 minutes in, I realized that was never going to happen. Kids naturally mix the two and you're left with water with sand in the bottom and wet icky sand on the other side.

There's a plug to drain water, but if sand gets mixed with the water, you will loose any sand that's on the water side when you drain it.

This set comes with lots of accessories a shark-shaped scooper, digging utensils and the water wheel, which my children have taken to the bath tub for daily use.

I think this is a great table as a water table, but to mix the sand and water may be messy and frustrating for some parents. We are currently using ours as a sand table. My almost 2 year old likes to climb in and sit in there. Once all the sand has been thrown/spilled and scooped out, we will likely change this to a water only table and get a sandbox that sits on the ground.

One last thing worth mentioning -this table comes with a lid but it only covers one half of the table.

My son received this for his first birthday. I thought it would be for a bit older kids, but he loved it. He was able to splash and dig just like the big kids. His 5 year old sister loves it as well! Great product, very sturdy and lots of fun accessories.

We bought this sand and water table for our 2-year-old's birthday from Costco for about $5 cheaper than on Amazon. In my opinion, it's a pretty good price compared to the $70 and up versions. It comes with lots of accessories that are so cute and the umbrella definitely helps prolong playtime. Of course my little boy mixes the sand and water but, hey, life is shortwho cares? I just drain the water and let the sand dry, then scoop it back into the sand side. You could do all sand or all water and it would be no problem. Love the drain feature, umbrella and fun little water slide thing that's included. I got a couple plastic construction trucks from Target to add to the sand side and I'm pretty sure my son could pour sand in and out of the dump truck for hours. Overall I love it and I know we'll get lots of use out of it.

Here's my opinion after a few weeks of use:

Pros:

> Good size the table overall and the both the water/sand compartments are the right size, for a small patio for example

> Nice shape the rounded edges make it feel more natural than some of the squarer tables

> Looks nice good colors and overall design

> Accessories comes with some fun, practical accessories like the "shark scoop"

> Convenient drainage hole with plug, making it easy to drain water for cleaning

> Has an umbrella holder if you plan to use one (although the umbrella is not included)

Cons:

> Water tower is flimsy the tower just sits on top of the table and is not held in place by anything, so is easy to knock over. The "slides" within the tower also don't really lock in place and rely on the pressure of one piece to hold the other piece in, so they pop out a lot

> Water and sand can end up escaping through the umbrella hole if you are not using an umbrella not really a huge deal since water and sand are likely to end up on the ground or floor anyway, but I think it would be better if you could seal it off somehow.

Other:

> I'm not totally sure of the value of the "mountain cover". I guess some kids might find some creative use for it but we end up just leaving it off and playing with both sides of the table. A cover for the whole thing might be better to keep out dirt, etc. when it is not being used.

Overall, I think this is a good table and would recommend it if you want one that holds both water and sand and you don't really care about the tower or cover.

A friend had one and after visiting them and seeing the fun the kids had with it, we decided to buy one as well (the one at Costco is identical to this, but also comes with an umbrella which is a nice added feature and it was $5 less only $45).My 18 month old loves it.We don't use sand in it seems like that would be too messy. But he's perfectly happy with the water portion!

The only problem I have found so far is that the drain plug is not in a lower center point (the edges are higher than the drain). Therefore when you want to drain the water, there is still some water sitting in the table.Mostly around the edges, and not enough to splash and play in, only about 1/4 inch, but just enough to attract mosquitoes or mildew! This would be an easy fix for the manufacturer, all they need to do is shape the tub better. As it is a little large to dump out the remaining water, I end up spending a few minutes tilting it back and forth and pushing the rest of the water down the drain.
