Table Top Easel

Table Top EaselI bought this table top easel for my son quite awhile ago and he loved it. I used it until he outgrew it and then passed it on to family who are still using it. It is durable and will last. I recently purchased another one for the little boys I babysit for Christmas and I am sure they will get tons of use out of it as well. It's great because it has the clips up top to hold paper and the tray on the bottom to hold paints and markers etc... It's nice because it doesn't take up a lot of space like floor easels and you can sit at a table and paint. It also has the dry erase board and the chalk board for added fun. I highly recommend this product and I would purchase it again for any other child. This is by far the best table top easel you can get and the price is good as well.

My 5-year old son LOVES this easel. He loves the dry erase board, the chalkboard and the fact that he can clip pieces of paper to it to color it with crayons, regular markers or paint. He is also using it to practice writing, which I love.He loves that it is lighweight enough that he can carry it to the table himself (so long as the art supplies aren't "weighing down the tray") and I think that is helping him feel ownership of and responsibility for it.It was also very easy to assemble when we first got it.The only negative I have is that he gets so excited about using it, that he decides to go from the dry erase board (on one side) to the chalkboard (on the other side) in a matter of seconds and drags the easel when he flips it aroundwhich scratched our table. We did end up adding foam to the bottom of he legs ourselves and the problem is now solved. But I guess it can't be so much of a negative since, after all, he prefers to play on this easel over watching TV-now that's the real miracle.

I just purchased two of these as Christmas gifts for my daughters. They love them and played with them all day today. However, people should be aware that the listing is a bit misleading. I purchased the "recommended" package deal with the easel pad and accessories. The Melissa & Doug pad of paper is way too big for the easel so you have to tear out the sheets and fold them over before clipping them to the board. Not a huge deal, but why list an easel pad with this item that doesn't even fit it? The easel iteself appears to be very sturdy, but the clips that are shown in the pictures are not the same ones that came with it and they broke within a few hours of opening the box.

I am also disappointed that there is no way to collapse the easel's without taking the screws out of them and disassembling. Perhaps I should have read the listing more clearly, but I guess I presumed that a tabletop easel would have some way to fold it for storage.

I got the table top easel for my 2.5 year old son for Christmas 2011.He immediately took to it and has been using it practically every day since.

Assembly:

The easel was easy to assemble, just a few simple screws, washers and nuts to tighten. The only annoying part of assembly was the plastic that covered the whiteboard and chalkboard.I had to unscrew the board from the easel to take the plastic off and in doing so, made a slight 1/8" chip in the covering of the whiteboard around the screw hole.

Use:

The board is well constructed, sturdy and easy to use.It comes with two clips to hang painting paper on.The boards are easy to clean with an eraser. It must be put on a table top for small children to use while standing or on the floor while sitting.

Accessories:

We bought dry erase markers, chalk, erasers, Melissa and Doug paint cups, and a Melissa and Doug easel paper pad to go with the easel since it doesn't come with it.There is a gap between the bottom of the whiteboard/chalkboard and the bottom of the tray of about an inch that allows the markers to roll behind the boards. My son gets frustrated with them constantly rolling behind there.Buyer's Tip: The Melissa and Doug easel paper pad (17"x20") is slightly larger than the surface of the boards, so the paper hangs off the edges slightly.

The only other thing I would change is to add a coating to the wood tray of the easel. My son has used his dry erase markers to color the front of the tray, thinking it would erase too.If there was a clear coat on it, like on furniture, it should wipe away by using the eraser.Instead, we have permanent colored marks there.

Overall, it's a well made, quality easel and I would highly recommend it.
