I received the item I ordered the base is glass, the brush holder is metal and stable, the product is well made. When cleaning the siphon, the station does not move or tip.It makes changing out paint much easier.I also like the added container included because I don't always have water available.Want Iwata-Medea Cleaning Station Discount?
This review is for the Iwata-Medea Cleaning Station, which I will first say is a must have for any airbrush enthusiast.I would give this product five stars if the price were a bit less, because I just can't see too many of these being sold to average hobbyists at the current price range.I would much rather spend my hard earned cash on a new airbrush or higher quality compressor. I digress. This product saves a ton of time by allowing me to rinse at the paint station instead of running to the sink after each color applied. Also, I have an ultrasonic cleaner that I used to chuck these in after each color was applied and sometimes I'd forget that I left the airbrush in the cleaner and come back a week later to a severely gummed up brush. The moral of the story here is that with the Iwata, all i do is drop some cleaner in the bowl and blow it into the cleaning station, then I'm on to the next color. This product is extremely useful in keeping up with the cleanliness of your painting station and also allows for less transition time between colors.
The cleaning station is also great at eliminating fumes from brush cleanout. There is a cotton filter in the lid of the station which keeps the fine particles from leaving the bowl of the cleaning station and being inhaled.Common airbrush cleaners contain ammonia, which, if inhaled can cause severe reactions to the respiratory system.I used to perform this step into a cup and the particles were sometimes choking. Not a problem anymore.
The bowl of the cleaning station is made from glass, not plastic, which has two main benefits. The first is the weight. This thing has a good weight to it, in fact, it is so stable that I am not afraid to leave my brush in the holder indefinitely.I have had several holders in the past that were fairly wobbly and that is not the case with this unit.So far I have tried several airbrush manufactures in the holder and all of them fit snugly and they aren't going anywhere if you bump the glass. If you are curious about which brands I have successfully fit, they are: Harder and Steenbeck all Infinity lines, Badger and finally, Iwata. (I would hope these would fit)The second advantage of the glass bowl is ease of cleanup. You can clean these with an abrasive cleaner if need be, where as a plastic bowl would be ruined if abrasives were used. This has always been important to me as an artist and I even buy porcelain/glass palettes for this same reason. There is nothing harder to clean than dried acrylic paint, and Iwata has it right with this glass bowl.
The chrome handle is sturdy, bu to be honest, I rarely use it.There were some spare parts that came inside of the cleaning station, a couple of new filters and a new rubber grommet, which is always an added bonus, and I did not see that mentioned on the item description.
Honestly, this is the best cleaner on the market, I own a couple other brands and by far this one takes the cake, but its just a little more spendy than I think is deserved. If you have any interest in airbrushing, pick this up! It's a nice, robust glass jar with a very solid plastic lid and metal kickstand so you can rest your airbrush while not working. The lid has a very efficient filter, I was spraying 100% thinner into it without a respirator and smelled no fumes. The mouth of the lid has a rubber coating so you don't bang up your brush. The only fault is that it comes with zero instructions for assembly and use but it only took me a minute or two to figure it out completely.
