The globe arrived yesterday.I checked it out when I went to bed and got thoroughly engrossed.Lost two hours sleep.I have a small collection of antique globes but wanted a new one that reflects the countless political changes in eastern Europe, central Asia, Africa, southeast Asia and Central America.The contrasty appearance is interesting as it has a bit of modern edge while looking strangely vintage.There are some 4,000 place names.I thought the raised mountain ranges might be a gimick, but they contribute a valid sense of place.The quality appears excellent.The Frank Lloyd Wright connection is tenuous but the base looks quite nice.
The globe includes an updating offer from Replogle for replacing only the globe/ring component at a discounted price.This could be useful as I plan to keep at least one globe up to date...maintaining any semblance of political geographic proficiency is a challenge.
