Wow! I purchased this set so that my young children could learn about chess in a fun way. The pieces are GREAT for toddlers and preschoolers to handle and "become" the game of chess. My children learned quickly the names of each piece and how the move along the board.

They are great (no small pieces for the mouth) for learning and interacting with chess and take it from "boring" to exciting. I would invest again in this set, as I see it can continue to be fun as my children get older. The larger than life pieces help make the game come alive for me as well.

This is an awesome Chess set. However I did end up wanting a bigger board. I ended up making an 8' by 8' board, on a canvas drop cloth. The 8' Board looks to be a better size ratio, to use with this set. I cannot give you a good durability review yet. There have been no major drop tests yet.

With all being said, I absolutely love this chess set. Someday I may even make a stone patio chess board for it. Great value for the money spent.

I can see some good backyard matches coming soon.

Great fun and mental stimulation. I use my set outdoors on cement tiles I painted black and white; under a metal gazebo. The flowering vines I planted are on their way to providing shade for earnest players. A bit of Alice in Wonderland. Many thanks!

It is important to not confuse this nice large set with smaller similar sets. Price fluctuates with X-mas etc between 100 and 150$ transport included, so net-shop well before ordering (WMT,eBay,...) including transportation cost for the large cardboard box which has a nice carrying handle.

Playing pieces are lightyou may want to fill/weigh them with something.

Instead of using the simple not impressive tablecloth like vinyl sheet playing surface provided, I have decided to build a more luxurious 4 x 6 feet plywood surface with black and white 6 in squares, painted or tiles (ceramic tiles or dollar store self-sticking vinyl tiles). This home-built wooden chess surface will then be stored indoors by me when not in use.
