Kidkraft Deluxe Track N Train Pack 55 Piece Set - 5 Different Layout

I didn't get this off of Amazon in fact, at the time of this writing (Nov. 2010) if you have a Costco membership, I would recommend purchasing it there for( shipped from their website).We got a Thomas starter set for about the same price for our son's 3 year old birthday, but wanted more track.This set definitely has a lot of track I think the track pieces work fine with the Thomas Track and train pieces we have, but the Thomas pieces look a little better made.What I like about this set is that because of all the different track pieces, bridge setups, and pieces that make train sounds, there is a lot of flexibility for creative layouts.That said,some of the pieces make really sharp turns, so some of the initial designs we made had our trains falling off the tracks, and frustrating out 3 year-old quite a bit.As he gets older, I think it will be a good lesson in train mechanics and figuring out why certain setups work and certain ones don't.I still think it was a good purchase for its value even though I think that the Thomas pieces are higher quality, the fact that a set of Thomas tracks of this size would cost 4x as much makes this set a winner in my book.

The great thing about the Kid Kraft train sets is that you can use your own imagination to extend an existing set. While there are some tracks you can build using this set it gets much more fun once you combine this set with one or more others to build many different sets.

There are three pieces in this set that do have a battery to make train noises, but when these run out the set can be used as well. The kids really like the noises!

I just bought this train set for my 4 y/o son for Christmas and it's great! I didn't get this one on Amazon, I bought it at Costco (in Mexico, no less) for roughly $50. I had a train set just like this when I was a boy and wanted him to have something similar and this set lives up to that. The track itself is super nice and quite large. This toy I'm sure could take a good beating without any problems. It also comes with a booklet with several different track layouts you can build, which has been really useful to me and has helped me set-up all kinds of cool different layouts for my son to play with. My only real gripe is with the train it comes with. The train cars are kind of long and the wheels rotate and it just doesn't work all that great b/c the cars don't stick together very well and they fall off the track too often. Using them individually works pretty well, though. I also bought a die-cast metal Thomas train to go with my sons gift, but that train is a tad too small and doesn't fit on the tracks right, so I must've gotten the wrong Thomas series (maybe he was meant for the plastic track..). Anyway, it says on the box that this track is compatible with the Brio stuff (and is WAY cheaper from what I'm seeing here on Amazon), so I will probably just buy a couple of train pieces for my son to replace the train it came with. Other than that, the track is great and I feel like I got a really good deal. Just building different layouts is a lot of fun!

a nice addition to out train table. it fits well with our imaginarium train set. we are very happy over all.
