Stiga Stiga 54-Inch Mini Pong Table Tennis Table

Stiga Stiga 54-Inch Mini Pong Table Tennis TableThis table looked and felt sturdy when it arrived. But I've never purchased a worse quality product from Amazon.First of all, the unit came without the net and other components. After some weeks, the company shipped the components. The net, which has very light plastic clips that clip on the table, broke within 2 uses. After that, while we were trying to disassemble and reassemble it (as the previous review notes, this table is NOT made for easy storage), the piece between the legs (that says STIGA)completely broke off.We got maybe 4 days of play out of this purchase before it went in the dump.

Absolutely horrible purchase. Do not buy!

My wife and I love playing TT recreationally, but we live in an apartment with little room for a full size table. I previously tried the Spartan portable mini table tennis table, but that was a disaster. The table was super-heavy and the hinges broke even while we were unfolding it for the very first use. I then had to lug it to the store (Dick's) to return it. Given that experience, this Stiga table felt so much better. It does have its share of problems though.

Pros:

1. Relatively light weight (35 lbs)

2. Very easy to put together. Its basically 4 wing bolts, and then you snap on a few parts. No tools required. 5-10 minutes.

3. Decent playing surface for recreational use. Since the board itself does not fold in half, you can be sure that the surface is perfectly even.

4. Nice size for an apartment. The design of the legs means it takes up a very small floor footprint, while being reasonably sturdy.

5. 29" x 54" is a very playable surface. Sure, you don't move around at all compared to a full-sized table, but its still fun for 2 adults.

Cons:

1. From looking at the pictures, I assumed that this table folds up like an ironing board. It does not. You basically need to DISASSEMBLE it each time you want to put it away and RE-ASSEMBLE it before each play. Sure, the table is easy to take apart and put back together, but it still takes about 5-10 minutes. Also, assembly and disassembly require you to turn the table upside down, risking damage to the playing surface and requiring some strength. If you're looking to stow the table away after each use, you might be disappointed. I sure am.

2. The included rackets are plastic toy-like child rackets. It can seriously hurt an adult's wrists using them. Be sure to get a full-size pair.

3. The reason the spartan table was so much heavier is that the playing surface had wood and metal reinforcement on all sides. The MDF surface of the Stiga table is largely unprotected. You need to be careful not to place anything on top of it, even in storage. Even if you need to move it (while assembled), two people would probably need to lift it by the legs, rather than holding it by the playing surface. With careful use though, it looks like it should last a while. Only time will tell.

4. Compared to portable tables where the playing surface folds in half, the size of this table can make it unwieldy to store.

5. The net is only 3 inches wide. The height can be adjusted to make it up to 4.75 inches tall, but leaving a gap at the bottom.

6. Pricey. The components are nothing fancy. This ought to be much cheaper.

Overall, recommended for recreational play if you have the room to keep it in its assembled state for extended periods. Clearly intended for kids (based on racket size) but adults can enjoy it too.
