Maxim Wooden Train Set, 145-Pieces

This is a fine toy; my kids of different ages enjoy playing with it. However, I wonder if this is the best option for a wooden railroad. If you can afford a more expensive brand, perhaps with fewer pieces, get it instead. The track pieces are plain wood, not covered by any stain. One of pieces of the track broke already when the kids tried to disconnect them. The painted pieces get dented very easily. Of the 145 pieces quite a few are stand-alone pieces and are not part of the track or the trains (road signs, animals, etc). The provided layout seems to be missing one support, judging both from trying to make it stable and from comparing the photo of the completed set on the box and the layout. The kids still enjoy it, but I am a bit disappointed with the whole value.

I bought this train set for my son when he was 2 years old. Of all the sets on the market at the time, it was the largest and most complete set I could find. I'm so glad I did the large one because it has allowed for more creativity has he has gotten older. Not one piece has broken in 2 years. When he was 2 years old, he would sometimes get frustrated when the raised up track pieces would fall. I have heard of some parents nailing them together, but we didn't do that. Eventually we bought a battery operated train engine for the set and that renewed the fun. Now I have the set in a rubbermaid container so it's ready to walk out the door when we go to a friends house who doesn't have toys.It's great for cooperative play too!

Finally a train set we can afford!This train set offers everything a kid could want. It is well made and so much fun.It is wonderful for the train obsessed.I would recommend it to anybody!

This was a Christmas gift for our son. Took us an hour and a half to put together.Not the best instructions.On Christmas morning, he had it torn apart in two min.But he does enjoy making his own tracks, and such.He is almost 4 and it's a little to comlex for him to put back together by himself.When the track is set up how it's supposed to be can be a little flimsy, but overrall it's a fun toy for a little boy!Apart it's a great way for them to create the "city, track" they want.
