Backgammon Attache 18"

Backgammon Attache 18'There seem to be few or no decent game stores anymore, so I was forced to buy a backgammon set online and sight unseen. The reviews for other sets here were very questionable, with some people claiming that their sets were works of art, while others pronounced the same product to be a piece of junk. This set had the most reviews, and generally favorable, so I gave it a shot.

The playing pieces are probably the best part of the set. They are a good weight and size, smooth, and attractive. The dice are OK, but a bit too small. They have rounded corners, which is nice. The points are thin vinyl/plastic, but they are cut evenly and stitched well. They are all laying flat now, but I can't tell if the edges will begin to lift with time. The inside of the case is felt, and appears to be of good quality.

The dice cups are felted on the inside, but are small (hence the small dice, I guess). They also strike me as being somewhat fragile (considering how much they will be handled), and very cheaply glued together. The worst thing of all is the attache case construction. To begin with, the hinges and clasps are cheap-looking, and resemble foil more than metal. The hinges are screwed on somewhat haphazardly, and I can easily imagine the clasps failing sooner rather than later. The handle is small and equally cheap. The case is covered with vinyl which isn't too bad looking. It is padded (perhaps a little too much) on the sides. But, the edges of the case, and the corners in particular, are very, very sharp. I will be very surprised if the vinyl does not wear through and/or tear at those spots relatively soon.

Overall, I would say that this set is disappointing to me at the price I paid. As another reviewer said concerning a different set, I probably would not have bought this had I seen it in a store. Mostly, I think it's just the typical problem that things are not made like they used to be. I don't think the dice cups will last long, and I think the case will either break or be showing its age much too soon.

This is a well made Backgammon set and the Movers have a good feel in your hand.Good quality dice and a set of rudimentary instructions. The case closes securely and is a nice size for a home set.Recommended.

I sent this set back within seconds of inspection. The corners were already dented, the glue holding the thin felt in place on the sides and corners had already failed.I went to my nearby store and purchased a much higher quality set for the same money.this is not a good set for any serious backgammon player.

The game came well-packaged. The sturdy case opened up to a well-stitched felt board and nice shaped/weighted pieces. This large game board is good for playing on a coffee or kitchen table.Oh, one last thing, it came with instructions!

30days in...this backgammon is tearing at the corners and you can see the cardboard. I havent been rough on it becuase another review said she sent it back after examining the pointy corners that were going to wear quickly. Well, i thought quickly meant about 1yr.if you have beautiful wooden or leather furniture, i would not recommen leaving the cheap clasps fully open as they will scratch or rip your valuables. the chips are thin and have extra space in the holding slot; you can play no less. the out side is gray with black strip. i thought it would be black. i was disappoint by this. maybe i missed something. the quality is terrible... but i got a gammon set and i can buy another on next year. sorry i dont see a place to upload a picture. i think i will opt on the 15" size.
