Magnetic Letters & Number Play and Storage Desk

This toy became a great way for me to help my grandchildren to learn their letters and to read...such as spelling and sounding out various words: (example) let, pet, met, get, set, (etc). I had previously purchased Leap Frog Letter Factory DVD where they sang the sounds each letter made.

My only suggestion would be that I would have preferred the sliding black board side would have had a latch system to keep the chalk and items secure when putting away or traveling.

I wanted something that my son could carry with us on trips or car rides. I mistakenly assumed that this would work. First there is no handle for carrying, it is basically a thin wooden box (maybe 2" deep). Secondly, one side slides open for storage but there is no latch or anything to keep it in place should you want to carry it with you. Third, the magnetic letters that came with it are just cheap cardboard (or thin wood) letters and there are not very many.I had purchased plastic magnetic letters separately and I doubt they will actually fit inside because of the small storage space due to the box being so thin. The size of the box is also small, making it difficult to spell more than one word at a time or manipulate multiple letters to see patterns.

This magnetic board is not that great unless you have an older child (like 4 or 5 minimum).

I bought this for my 3 year old son and it is demolished.

The box is a pretty much a "balsa" wood frame (basically a really flimsy, soft, thin wood)and if it drops on the floor it will crack and splinter. The edges are sharp also. That means that if your child leaves it on the floor and you kick it, well, you know the rest.

The magnetic board slides in and out of the wood frame because it has a chalkboard on the reverse side and a storage space inside of the box.

The letters stored inside the box are cardboard sandwiched with colored paper and magntic paper which peels off.

The "eraser" if you want to call it that is a peice of foam.

I threw it out. I would have returned it but it wasn't even worth the effort. This thing was dollar store quality at best.

I have used this to assist in teaching the alphabet to my three year old nephew. It is very nice. It is a very good product and I recommend it to parents and teachers, You can also allow the child to play with it and older children can use it to "play school" with the younger children.
