We got it as a gift. I exchanged it 3 times in the store and finally returned it. The toy supposed to make sounds: train, elephant, and monkey. The first toy: elephant didn't make sound. My son liked the toy and I decided to exchange it for the working toy. Second time: train, monkey, and elephant didn't make sounds. Third time: everything sounded well but train didn't move.

Great product that was built thick and able to withstand some rough play. All the sounds worked just fine and it is great that it folds up for quick and easy storage. however, I am not able to get the train to stay on the track. The wheels don't stay on the plastic track and the train falls off. Train works well on carpet and the motor seems fairly strong for a child's toy.

Our train has made always made all its sounds, has been played with daily for several months by our toddler, and is a must-have first train. Our toddler is a GIRL by the way -and my friends' boys also love this same train! It can go on the track or be placed on the floor for play. It has no problem going along our carpet, too. The three characters are fun for play without the train, and you can put other toys to go for rides on the train, too. This is a safe, practical, and easy-to-cleanup train set. It's the kind of thing you buy for your kids and then also get for friends' kids' birthday parties -like I said, must-have! After seeing the rating and only 1 review for this toy, I had to write a good review because it has been such a favorite and I don't understand why it has only 1 negative review.

On opening the box the first surprise was how little the track resembled any image I saw online or on the packaging. You are always ready for a change in colours, but the 'greenery' inside the track is nonexistent on our toy.

Secondly, and most disappointingly, the quality of the track is very, very poor. It cannot really be folded and unfolded as others have mentioned and the train does jump off because the track does not meet cleanly.

The plus, and perhaps what the manufacturer is counting on, is that the train runs beautifully on the floor and has no need for the chintzy track. Sounds work well and the train runs when button pressed. My son adores it and prefers to watch it run under the furniture anyway! (2010)

**** several months later none of the sounds worked **** 1 1/2 years later still a popular toy minus the track, discarded in the first week... the train still runs well on the floor and, it turns out, has a little towing power.

That's really my only complaint. I bought this for my girlfriend's daughter, and of all the toys she got for christmas this is her favorite, but the darn train won't stay on the track. She doesn't care though (she's two). And I guess as parents we are supposed to interact with our children as they with toys, you know, play together, so being there to put the train back on the track every 30 seconds isn't so much a huge deal, I guess.
