I can't lie, the stand-mixer tickles me to no great end, I love it.And aside from needing a little browning on the bread, the toaster's a nifty little geegaw too.My only complaint is the cookie cutter.Apparently no one botehred to look at a real one because the thing is backwards.Either that or Barbie's taking the extra step of rolling out the dough, cutting it with the cutter, and flipping the dang cookie over onto the cookie sheet.Not that it matters, as the cookies are permanently melded to the sheet.Still, it's a good display bit along with everything else.

()This is my third Alex craft box.We have the Alex Ready, Set, School Activity Box, Alex Little Hands Seriesas well as one of their other craft boxes.I love how they're very complete--glue sticks and everything you need included.They are overpriced, however--but are great for grandparents or Moms who want an emergency craft kit (or just don't want to assemble their own supplies.)This kit comes with three different crafts (not 12...but 12 in total):
*Paper cup monsters
*Paper plate hats
*Paper plate animals
Each craft has enough for four kids (or for your child to do it four times).Each craft has its supplies in its own plastic bag--which is nice.There are three different direction sheets--and they're designed for non-readers.They'll show, for example, a red cup...and then show what goes on the red cup.Then, the punch outs for the red cup will also be labeled with a red cup.Really well thought out.
I think if you're doing preschool at home or just want to add some art enrichment to your day, it's nice to have.If you think of it as one craft per week--it's a little more than $1.00/week/kid.Not too bad.I'll add that my 4, 6, and 8 year olds all enjoyed the crafts--they're not just for preschoolers.You'll also end up with left-over paper shreds which can be used for other crafts.
I'm going to send another one of these craft kits to my Mom's house for when we visit at Christmas.It's so complete--that it's worth it.
Now, that I'm on my fourth child, I've slowly established craft supplies.For my four year old, I like to assign a certain craft to each day...so Monday is play dough (homemade...just Google a recipe, so easy!), Tuesday is painting, Wednesday is crafts (either the Kumon books or Alex kits), Thursday is drawing, and Friday is free.
One great easy craft is to just buy some pipe cleaners and bugle beads...and let a child string them.The pipe cleaner is much easier to string things on.Homemade play dough is great.It's easy (I buy a bag of the cheapest flour for it)...and giving that to kids along with cookie cutters, rolling pins, etc. can keep them busy for hours. (There are cooked/non=-cooked recipes everywhere.)Kids also like to collect things outside and then make collages. Let them paint paper towel and toilet paper tubes before you recycle them.Clear contact-paper is great for having them stick things to.There are tons of craft-y blogs out there for ideas as well.I also love all of Maryann Kohl's books.We still use First Art : Art Experiences for Toddlers and Twos and my older kids love the projects!Have fun!Remember, messes are not that tough to clean up...and usually kids love to help.
Alex Little Hands usually make exceptionally high quality products, but they need to go back to the drawing board on this one.

This summer's heat wave has inspired my daughter and I to do a lot of arts and crafts. I got this box because my daughter loves owls and there's a paper plate owl to construct. But the paper cup crafts are a bit tricky to glue and the hats aren't really of any interest for my little one. ()My six year old loved the busy box.We quickly found out that the glue stick was not doing the sticking of some of the crafts.She uses scotch tape often, so it was not a problem for her to use tape to put the items together.She loved the paper plate masks most of all.It is nice to have all ths upplies ready to go.We have many Alex items and enjoy them very much.

()I have purchased other Alex Little Hands crafts over the past year for my children (my son is almost 5 and my daughter is almost 2).We've really enjoyed them, so when I saw this I ordered it.
When it came, my son instantly wanted to make a paper cup monster.It's a cute concept, but the glue provided (as mentioned by other reviewers) is pretty much worthless.My little boy got frustrated when things didn't stick, and he'd have to use more glue and hold it for a while to get the pieces to stay.This doesn't work well with impatient, small children, so make sure to have your own glue handy.
My daughter wanted to make a fish hat with Daddy, and that worked out okay, but again we had issues with the glue, and the stickers just weren't strong enough to hold it together.The hat turned out really cute and my daughter loved it once my husband got out some other glue to work with.
Basically this kit is comprised of colored paper cups and colored paper plates with some round stickers, some light weight poster board pieces for arms and other features, and other pieces for decorating.It also comes with a glue stick, which I would immediately replace.It would be pretty easy to make these items yourself, and probably for less money.This kit seems pretty expensive for what you actually get, although it does have projects that my 2 year old and 5 year old really enjoyed.

First off, I guess due to the size, this item takes a couple extra days to be delivered.Not a big problem, as you're told this up front.There is no picture on the outside of the plain cardboard box, so if you're ordering for a present, the recipient will have no idea what's inside (young kids) save for the words "Air Hockey Table" on the front (fine for adults).Made this mistake for my son's (5yo) birthday.He tore the paper off and stared at the brown box, having no idea what it was.Had to open and show him before he got excited about it.
PROS:Table is packaged very well within a box inside an outer box.There are pieces of wood at the ends to ensure the corners don't get mangled.My table arrived in perfect condition.The looks very nice and with only 4 screws to put in the goals, it was up and ready in no time.This is a plug-in model, so you don't have to worry about batteries (this is also a CON as you need to set up near an outlet, not exactly "portable").
And that's where the fantasy ended...
CONS:While it is a nice looking table, and a perfect size for smaller kids (again, my 5yo), functionally, it's HORRIBLE.The fan is not nearly powerful enough to reach the entire table to keep the puck afloat and is quite loud.A small ring around the center of the table is all you get for real "air" hockey playability.The center of the table, and outside of this small "ring" of air, there's nothing the puck scrapes on the table surface.Dead zones are, therefore, most of the ends of the table, the corners, and the precise middle (the "faceoff" area).Underneath the table, it's obvious why...There is nothing more than a 92mm computer fan providing the air.While this is fine for keeping your PC cool, it's not nearly powerful enough to drive an air hockey table.
CONCLUSION:While my son gets a kick out of it (for the time being), I am sorely disappointed.Again, buyer beware you get what you pay for.Save your money on this model and get something a little more expensive to provide a much better experience.
(Maybe I'm just jaded.About 40+ years ago, when I was a kid, I had a nice table.The puck was actionable all over the table never hit the table surface.I had hours of fun on that unit.Astounding to see how far air hockey games have *fallen* in quality since then...)

I got this table for my grandchildren and I'm sorry I did.The plastic is flimsy, very sharp on the cut edges, and the holes for the screws are not entirely punched through making it difficult to assemble.
Once I did have it assembled I found that it's not very stable, making me think this company forgot children can and will climb, jump, and stand on any flat surface.
As far as it seating four good luck.
Before you pay the price for this one you should seriously consider building your own from wood.
But hey, it IS really cute.;)

I read the review for this table but purchased it anyway as it was about 75% off due to a pricing mistake........Regardless I received it and yes it is very cheap plastic and no it would not fit 4 kids even if they were all under the age of 2.I have a hard time fitting my 2 year old on one side and my four year old on the other as the table itself is very small so their plates have to be on opposite corners.Do I regret purchasing this table?No, I bought it because I needed a cheap table with chairs attached to stop the climbing.The table is light weight enough that my kids could easily move it but for some reason they don't.Their old table and chair set was always used to do something they should not be doing so yes this fits my purpose but if you want something durable and cute and not cheap looking then this is probably not for you.As for assembly it came with a ton of nuts and screws that took about 45 min to put in all the spots.The table top is two seperate pieces that were connected by a small plastic piece you pull off and discard......well it leaves a nub which isextremely annoying to look at as I seem to always think food fell in-between the crack (which happens often and is also an extreme pain to clean).Once my two year old stopsclimbing her old table will come back and we will use this outside and hope it lasts another year.For the price I got it for it is still worth it for the retail price.....well I am assuming you can guess.Read Best Reviews of American Plastic Toy Picnic Table Here
This is a bit more flimsy than a more expensive table, but for the price, it is a good deal! It was easy to put together and is sturdy enough for the preschool aged children for whom it was intended.

V-TECH SIT TO STAND PINK ACTIVITY WALKER
This toy is so UNsafe I don't even know where to begin...When you have this toy in the STAND/Locked position it is the most unstable toy ever.
*If they are sitting and pull themselves up by grabbing on the purple handle, sometimes they will be successful and be standing and other times they will pull the whole thing right into their head/face.
*If they are standing, if they loose their balance at all this provides NO stability for them to correct themselves "and down will fall baby, Vtech Walker and all"
*If they are standing and holding onto this if they pull back for whatever reason they will fall straight back onto their head(like when a tree falls) and sometimes they will let go of the walker as they are falling but other times they will still be holding onto the walker as they fall and hit their head and then get a double whammy when this toy comes falling into them as well.
*The bottom back bar is quite inviting for little ones to stand on while they hold onto the top and this thing will fall quicker than you can blink an eye.
When you have this toy in the STAND/WALK position:
*If they are just standing there and lean forward or back in the slightest, this thing is going to roll so fast out from under your little one and they are going down again.
*If they put any weight into this thing at all this thing flies out from under them.
When you have this toy in the SIT position:
*The toy is not quite as unstable in this mode but if your little one is trying to pull themselves up at all...you guessed it, this thing will very often tip right over, either your little one will fall on top of this or it will fall on them or it will start to tip and your little one falls and hits their head on the way down.
When you have just the toy(not on the stand) I guess it is safe enough but then again if this is on the floor and they put weight onto it this is going to slide and it is hard plastic and they can hit their heads on it.
All of these are from personal experience with my twins & my best friends daughter. All 3 girls can pull themselves up very well & adult supervision was always right there. I only ever let my girls play with this if I am sitting right behind them so I can catch them but I usually have this toy put up because I don't like my daughters crying when they get hurt using this toy.
I recommend getting one of the learning tables, my girls have one and they love it, it is very stable. And look into another walker that is a heavier base and wont tip so easily. Read the reviews on the original one of these, I think it was a yellow color...most reviews say UNSTABLE.
We saw this at a local toy store while browsing and bought this on a whim because my 11 month old seemed to like pushing the buttons. After assembling this walker, I realized how unstable and potentially dangerous this can be. As you can see from the video, my daughter is able to pull herself up to standing but is still learning how to walk while holding onto objects. I have this leaning against our couch so that it doesn't tip over but you can see how easily the walker moves against her weight. With the locks on, the wheels don't move at all but if a child continues to push against it, the walker will tip over. Without the locks, this goes way too fast, even on a rug. Read the reviews for this toy in the nongender specific color and you'll also see many complaints about this being unstable. The only way I can see this walker being appropriate is for a child who is able to stand independently without holding on and is able to take a few steps on their own. We took this back to the local toy store.

This toy should be recalled!It is cheap and not steady at all.It falls all the time. My daughter LOVES this toy. I think all of the problems from the previous review were caused by purchasing this toy too early. The key here is supervision. My daughter is 9 months and about to walk on her own, but I still don't let her walk with this toy by herself; I hold onto the bar and walk along with her to keep her from going too fast. When your child is learning how to pull up/stand/walk you don't just let them go free range alone. Use some common sense and you will love this toy. And it was half the price at TRU.

Edu Science Land & Sky 360 Tabletop Refractor Telescope - Blue
My wife purchased this toy for my son at our local TRU. Out of the box it was missing the sky charts, the manual and the CD. Additionally, the knob and screw assembly to attach the telescope to the tripod is about 1/4 inch short (5 millimeters).I called to see if I could order the parts, but the agent wasn't interested in even knowing what product I had. I guess there are no parts available. Boo, TRU.
Armed with a larger screw for the mount, I assembled the scope to the tripod. The product actually works nicely for its price point. This product delivers a clear image of distant objects. The adjustment knobs are bright silver and well machined. The product also includes a pair of storage tube for the eye pieces.
The tripod is made for children and should be used on a bench or table. It has central arms for stability.
All and all, for $20-30, it isn't that bad if you can get over the missing pieces. Nothing that was missing was a deal breaker.

My daughter just received this baby grand piano from her grandparents as a baptism present.She is 10 months old and really seems to like it.The piano does so many things and I forsee her having a lot of fun with it and am happy that I suggested it for a present.The reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is that my daughter, who is just learning to stand and cruise, stood up with the piano and she must of put to much weight towards the middle of the piano, while I was reaching for the camera, because the piano tobbled end over end with her following it.The piano started to do the same thing right after that when she tried to stand.She wasn't hurt, more scared then anything, but I would have thought it would be sturdy enough to handle her putting a little weight in the middle of it.I still recommend the piano, but stay within hands reach if your baby can't walk and keep themselves fairly steady on their own.

This is one of the best toys I've ever seen.I don't care for most of the newfangled plastic, electronic toys...most of them are junk.This one, however, is well-designed and will entertain a baby as well as even a 5 or 6 year old, in my opinion.I used to teach music at the elementary school level, and I think my kindergarteners and first-graders would have loved it.The controls are all easy enough to operate that even a 9-month-old (the suggested earliest age) can operate them easily...none of them require too much strength or dexterity, for instance.
It teaches real musical concepts (high vs low, fast vs slow, etc) and has an actual, properly-working piano keyboard.The keys work like a real piano's does; if I press down 2 or 3 or 4 keys, they will all sound together, and the sound quality is like an actual piano, not a buzzy toy.There are so many different modes (there are three main modes, but when you turn the music "page" it brings up different sub-modes) so there are many different ways to play with this toy.My kid has played with this for 2 months, and I'm still discovering new functions on it.
I like the piano so well that I am pretty vigilant about not letting my baby "pull up" on it...I want the toy still working when he's 3 or 4.:)If you are assembling this for a baby, I would recommend waiting to install the legs until your child is through with the "pulling-up" phase.Durability may be the only weakness of this toy; nothing has broken on mine, but I could see where if an aggressive toddler say, tipped it over and stepped on the music stand part, that might break off or something.
On the whole, though, I LOVE this toy!Music teacher approved!

My one-year-old got this for her birthday and it was an instant hit.(We haven't had any trouble with pinched fingers, so I'm going to have to check that out.I'm having a tough time picturing how that could happen.Poor kiddos!)I like that you can set the piano to play music notes, colors, or solfeggio.Our five-year-old is even enjoying playing all of the songs and practicing her piano skills!I would highly reccommend this toyit seems a little pricey, but it totally worth it because of all the features!

My 4 year old son must be the biggest Thomas fanatic out there. I was pleased to find a Thomas toy box, especially made by KidKraft. It's quite durable, easy to assemble, has hinges that prevent little fingers from being pinched (top will NOT slam shut even if you try), & it encourages my little guy to put away his toys in his "favorite hiding place". It's decently sized, however, only because we own just about everything "Thomas", I'd like to see options on bigger toy boxes/chests that match, even smaller ones to match would be nice for a themed bedroom. Overall, this product is worth the price.

The shape of the loo and the tub are nice, and the vanity mirror can be left off the tub.I really like the little peripheral stuff (the loofahs and soaps and such), and the fixtures on the tub are PERFECT.Word of caution, if you're going to refinish it (like I did), sand the tub a little first, use Krylon Fusion and let it cure for the full week.Because the tub plastic is just a touch flexible you run the risk of damaging your new paint job if you don't let it cure.Otherwise, fantastic set.

Swing N Slide Newport News
We bought the Newport swingset after looking at many, as it was mid-priced, Chinese fir (not pine) it is smooth wood that smells lovely, with swings that are rated for 200 lbs each, a double story playhouse, and a wooden roof.It does not require a huge area to install.It is around 14' wide (16' with the little chair on the right), and the depth required is whatever you feel is a safe area for the swings to move and a child to be safe to jump off, and room for the slide.My measurements are roughly 13' deep from the end of the slide to the other side of the house, the swing beam is about 8' from one splayed post to the other and 7.5' wide (meaning the beam length for the 3 swings) and 7' high, and the playhouse bottom has a 46" high roof (43" low beams) so my 4 year old son won't be standing straight for long I'm sure he'll still enjoy it though.The upper area is high because of the peaked roof perhaps 10' high overall.The area recommended is a 28' zone, but really this is overkill, I guess so you don't sue them.There is no reason why the sides have to have a huge amount of room.Front to back you couldn't get away with much less kids jump off the swing, go fast off the slide, etc.The amount of time they say to build it is a joke.I had a builder who brought his prime assistant over, and the assistant worked for 3 days, about 20 hours total straight, with a little help lifting the beam into place and getting started (they had trouble working out the orientation of the frame at the beginning).Bits of screws and wood left over the directions had amendments and there wasn't exactly what you need like when you build an Ikea thing.And they reversed the direction of the house and slide to make it fit better into my site, so that is possible if you know what you are doing.I know people who have taken much longer to build these things if they can't spare that much time straight through.We've had 200 lb guys swinging on it with no movement.I have the 4 Anchor Its that came with it in but I think I will buy 4 more as we get a lot of wind in the winter and sometimes hurricanes (you can easily add more and it's probably a good idea I have seen other swingsets that rock when kids are swinging on them).It has to be a quite level site.I think the window plastic mullions will perish, but I can probably get our builder to fashion replacements if some parts go.The basic structure seems like it will last for years.Add a baby swing and a pirate wheel and we're having a great time.I can't speak for the delivery as I didn't buy it here, but it came in I think 6 or so large boxes in a huge truck, so I don't know what the '14 pieces' quoted in the description are.'6 players' would be useful but you only need 1 person who knows what they are doing, and 1 strong person!Overall a good mid-range, durable option.
The finished results of this kit are perfect it is a very cute and stylish set.It doesn't look cheap and is very solid once fully constructed.
I would warn that the instructions are terrible (to say the least).It might be better to glance at a picture in the step and try to work it out from there...less painful.Also, sort out all your screws, etc prior to starting there are a lot of screws that are close but aren't quite what they are in the manual...improvise!
Also, make sure you pre-drill everything.If you don't the wood WILL split.
It took me about 20 hours to get it built I did it by myself so it isn't so big that you need two people.
Other than the instructions, this is a fantastic swing set and my girls are still climbing all over it after a couple of months.They enjoy the little area underneath where they "cook" and serve meals to each other.The pot plant holders is a great touch and gave the girls and their mom something to do together when they picked out and put their flowers in.
Can't say enough truly a family investment.
