Take Along Thomas & Friends - Straight & Curved Track Pack

The good: My 3 year old daughter loves to play with Take Along Thomas trains and the plastic tracks and connectors are pretty durable since the joints do take a fair amount of abuse when being pushed and pulled by those little hands from side to side. They still connect together strongly and are a good exercise for her to piece them together.

The bad: There are basically 4 different pieces of track. A short straight, a long straight, a curve, and a curve with a fork (a 3-way). If you want to create more than just a circular or oval track, you have to use the 3-ways. Since the lengths of the short straight and the the 3-way turn are not complimentary (putting them together does not add up to the length of the long straight or the radius of a curve), it is difficult to make multiple loops in which the final connections line up. In order to get the final connection together, you have to stress the joints. This stress causes the connections to sometimes pop. It isn't really an issue for a 3 year old building a track, since they don't really care if all the tracks connect. But if you have an older child (OR A DAD WHO GETS ASKED TO BUILD COMPLETE TRACKS FOR HIS DAUGHTER), it can be frustrating to get the tracks to connect up. In addition, the 3-ways always turn in the same direction! How much money did they save in manufacturing by not having to make one more mold?

These tracks would be great if they did just two simple things: 1. Made the sizes of the pieces so that they were designed to all work together and 2. Spent the money in manufacturing to make a mold for a 2nd 3-way that turns in the other direction. Maybe I'm too picky, but I don't think it would have taken much more work or expense to get it right. I guess they figured little kids wouldn't notice or care.

This track was purchased b/c we did not want all the play sets but wanted something for the trains to run on.Dissappointed for a couple of reasons.You cannot use all the track piece that come in one bag to create a set up without having pieces left over you really need two bags to get full use of the pieces.Also dissappointed b/c we learned that not all of the take along trains fit on the track Fergus doesn't round corners very well (the wider the train the more difficult it is).Also like another reviewer found you have to run the trains in a particular direction to avoid frustration.On the up side it works pretty good with most of the trains and we found that other trains Geo trax, Thomas wooden railway and Tomy electric Thomas trains will work on the track, though the corners are tight so you have to nudge the trains along.I would not likely buy more of this product but I also don't feel that value is so terrible that it should be returned.If I were to do it again I would have bought more wooden track for his wooden railway.

We wanted to expand this collection for my son since he loves his round house station. We travel alot so it is nice to have this set. I do not believe this set is intended to make a complete track, it is intended to expand the sets you already have. It does what it is supposed toallow you to expand the track and make different track designs for the kids. My two year old is figuring it out, but for now I help him with it. It is pretty durable and he is happy with it. I don't have much trouble but no, you aren't going to make a complete track with no loose ends. Just use your creativity. that's what this toy is supposed to dogive kids the opportunity to be creative in developing their own tracks.I think it's great and I will probably buy my son the switch and change track pack too. He prefers this set to his wooden set and the trackmaster set is just too advanced for him... just an FYI...

Easy to set up, perfect size but item is wobbly and needs to be manufactured better!Would give 5 stars it didn't wobble as much as it does.

I love the fact that it folds up flat and is plastic and metal so it should hold up to the outdoor elements better than wood. It's a little on the wobbly side. I was expecting it to be more stable like the other Lifetime tables I have. My two daughters (@100lbs each) sat on the benches(one on each side) along with my day care kids (4 toddler) and the seats didn't bow or anything. So it seems pretty sturdy. Over all I'm happy with it... delivered and at a good price.

The look and feel seem to very high quality. I was very pleased when I first pulled it out of the box. First you swing the legs out and then lift the top until it snaps into place. The legs just didn't "lock" into place. Once the top was up, the whole table rocked on the legs. It doesn't seem to be a defect as much as it just isn't designed right. The rocking is just from the legs rotating in place a little bit. However, the result is very wobbly. My toddler thought it was great fun to wiggle his butt a little and get his milk to slosh out of the cup. Oh well sending this back. We did get the oval Lifetime table at our local warehouse store, and it doesn't wobble at all.

There is a fair amount of assembly required but just sit down and study the instructions previous to diving in.Know that there is a difference between the left and right legs of the desk.Once assembled, you will need to adjust the height to the correct height for your child.I used a tape measure to measure the distance from my daughters elbow and then subtracted an inch for clearance.While the table was on its side on the floor, we adjusted the height to correspond.She seems extremely comfortable with the table at that height.

This desk has made my life as a home school mom SO much easier.Even my daughter has noticed a change. She couldn't be happier with this desk. It is great that she has a desk that is just hers, but also that she is completely comfortable and ABLE to concentrate when she does her work!!!She actually looks forward to doing her home school work now!

Monopoly: Here and Now Edition

The up-dated Monopoly had to come some time, and this made a great game still great to play. I am still a fan of the original, but I enjoy this version too.

I have to agree with some comments about the money being harder to use, and that is true. However, I think it is a minor problem. The extra zeros on all the denominations make things a bit tough to work out, but this is something one gets used to when they play it a few times. The modern highrise buildings, (rather than houses and hotels), are a great little touch, allowing you to build "up" rather than across.

The new locations are great, and the new up-dated pieces are fun. Being made of metal, they are very durable too. The board folds in quarters, which is pretty common these days, (rather than in half with some of the older designs).

Overall, this is a great version of Monopoly and adds something to the experience. Although I would not abandon the original version for it, it is a great game.

As an owner of over 30 monopoly sets, I've played some pretty bad versions.The here & now edition is not one of them.I enjoyed the national locations rather than confinement to a single city that I've never been to.The updated tokens are great, too.I did find myself wondering why PB didn't decided to go global with the locations, though, as the current economy is so globally dependent... Doesn't really detract from the game, though.

One problem I had (and the only reason this gets 4 stars) is that the money was cumbersome if you're very used to the classic denominations.All of my sets except this one use the standard 1-5-10-20-50-100-500 scheme, whether it's dollars, galactic credits, hobbit money, whatever.Switching to large money values is great, but I think they should have at least left the 1-5-etc scheme, so the money could have been $1000, $5000, $10000 etc.This would help tie the old versions with the updated-ness of the new version, allowing a connection between those of us who have been playing the classic sets for years and the people who are just starting.

Overall, nicely executed idea that could have used a bit more globalization and more familiar money.

Imagine this: ice-covered streets, no computer or television access and a pack of snowbound teens. This game literally saved the day. They played it for hours. Then they played it again the next day...and a week later. It has come inhandy more times than I can say.

How and why this appeals to them more than traditional MOnopoly is not totally clear but here are some key factors:

1. It is a total revamp of the old MOnopoly

2. The cost of living increased 10,0000 fold. There are some different types of cards and new businesses such as Starbucks, Laptop computers and othe items are included. Whatever the reason, any board game that keeps groups of teens safely inside in cold weather and having hours of fun is a major plus!

This game is a break from the traditional Monopoly game, I like the new spaces and the landmarks from around the Nation. I couldn't help notice a few things that I would have done differently:

1.Make the paper money larger for ease of handling

2.A lazy susan for the deed cards (like in Monopoly Deluxe Edition)

3 The game board be folded in 2 sections instead of 4 (less creases)

4. make the tokens larger (my friend has big fingers had a hard time moving his token)

Other than this i have to say that the game was still fun and challenging, and really cool to land on known landmarks instead of the traditional street names.

If anything grab this game and leave it wrapped as a collector item (as it was a limited edition!

DURABLE FUN!If I had to describe this item in two words, it would be those.We have 4 children, but our two youngest are 2 and 3.I think, finally, someone has thought up of something that doesn't have "hundreds" of little pieces, small children of all ages can play with it and actually love it.I am a busy mom of 4 who stays home now to care for my mom full time as well.This toy is so quick to put together, I take it apart at night and put it back together in the morning and it takes maybe 5 mins. out of my busy day.My 3 yr. makes different track designs thoughout the days and my 2 yr. feels like he's actually the one making the train go on, so he feels rewarded. This is a great toy.My two year old loves it.He is able to work the remote, and likes to pull the train around the track.It isn't cheap, but considering its durability, its fairly priced.

Pros: extremely durable.exapandable/compatible with other geotrax, configurable, the hill and tunnel are cool. Simple enough for a two year old.

Cons: the track pieces are too hard for a two year old to snap together, its a little loud (with no volume).If it came with a couple other figures that would be cool considering there is a "station". Two more figures and a $50 price tag and this would be a five star review.

Battery-life is good but not great.

We have no problem with derailing.It will only derail if the hill is immediately followed by a curve (simple physics, it get going pretty fast down the hill), just put a straightaway first after the hill and it will never derail.

All in all: do not hesitate to buy, it really is a pretty cool toy, though it isn't perfect.

My 4 year old does like this train with the cool smokestack but the train design is poor.The smoke goes up and down as it moves which is neat.The train that is controlled by the remote is permanently attached to the first car of the train.The first car of the train does not lead the rest of the cars.Because of this, the first train often derails going down hills and gets my son frustrated.It's made just like the "Hauler and Big Rob," Team which we didn't keep because it derails.Not sure why they make the trains this way, it just frustrates my son.Expensive too.

My 2 1/2 year old grandson LOVES trains, so I purchased this for him for Christmas.He has played for hours with this set.First thing every morning it's, "Let's play Steamer," and you will hear that repeated several times a day.If he isn't playing with it, he is watching the DVD that came with it.The DVD is 4 different stories showing the different trains that are part of the GeoTrax team.This DVD has given "Steamer" a personality to my grandson.He re-enacts scenes when he is playing with the set.He gasps every time the "ghost train" shows up and is worried when the trains get stuck in the mud.

My grandson also enjoys his push Thomas trains.This set does have push trains available.It will meet the needs of younger children with the push trains, but at 2 1/2, he has had no trouble getting it back on track (or should I say, Trax!).Another grandparent gave him a Lionel train for children 2 1/2 and up.He enjoys and plays with the Timbertown Railway more.I don't know if it is the DVD that made the difference there, or if it is easier for him to operate.I am looking forward to expanding his set, although my daughter may object!

ETA:The train and remote quit working,Battery changes in both did nothing.My grandson used it as a push train and eventually went back to just playing with Thomas.My daughter bought the airport for him for his 3rd birthday.The day they set it up, he dropped the remote and it quit working.She then saw in the instructions that it said DO NOT DROP.Children in this age range (2-7) are going to drop things.Adults drop things.This is way too fragile for a young child and was a big disappointment.

We wouldn't have thought to purchase this toy as our 2 yo son wasn't showing a lot of interest in trains yet (just cars) but it was a gift. He loves it. This is what got him to love trains. It's good for fine motor skills and developmental skills because he has to get the train on the tracks and he puts the little cube bundle of "logs" in the crane's grip to drop into the train car, etc. I think it was focusing on playing with this train set that got our guy without much of an attention span to actually sit and pay attention to one thing for a longer period of time. And now that has extended to other toys and his books, etc. Best of all it's very durable. My son carries the train around and drops it and bangs it around. Don't hesitate to purchase this. We don't have a problem with derailing. You need to set the tracks up the way that's suggested and aim the train in the direction suggested for each set-up.

Monkey Multiplier

Works fairly well but with all charts or games that supply the answer for you, there could be little learning going on UNLESS the child uses it to check answers.One other use of the multiplier is to select a product and then try to guess the factors before looking at where the feet are pointing to.I bought this product because I LOVED the monkey math balance toy.That one is great for figuring out missing addends.It also visually reinforces the idea that both sides of an equation MUST be balanced (equal).As you might be able to discern, I'm an elementary school teacher.I have used Monkey Math successfully with K-2 grades.I bought the multiplier simply for the fun value.The reason I only gave it 2 stars for durability is that the product answer can be off by a fraction but easily adjusted.However, with a classful of students playing with it, which I have not done yet, I am wondering if it would hold up.

Gund Zoe Hand Puppet

This puppet was a great addition to her toy box.It is well made and little girl's love it when they see it...FYI don't pull it out of your diaper bag and try playing with it because a little girl may think it's hers and take it from you at a restaurant.The only down side of this puppet is that it's not really made for big handed people like Dads.

I ordered this for my 3.5-year old daughter.She loves hairbrushes and barrettes, and also needs a mirror for speech therapy exercises.This one, with its little drawer, seemed perfect.The price may seem a little high for a child's toy, but all reviews seem to indicate that KidKraft products are very well-made and worth it.

GeoTrax Workin' Roundhouse

I was really excited when Fisher Price announced that a roundhouse was in the pipeline for Geotrax.Our family loves the Geotrax line and we have quickly lost a room to our ever expanding layout.As we've added the clock tower, suspension bridge, and numerous remote trains we've always had an issue.Getting those trains turned around.

As cool as the remote trains are, they only go forward.So when I heard about the roundhouse I thought this would be a great way to swing the trains around.And to a degree that's just what it does.There is a turntable in front of the roundhouse that spins an engine a full 360 degrees.It even features the new Geomotion option that allows the drive wheels of the remote trains to swing around by itself.

The thing is, when the trains wheel into the roundhouse for washing, servicing, etcetera...you still have to manually back them out.And where they could have made the ends of each fork modular, to bridge from one fork to another with track, they opted to put a permanent stop at the end of each of the three forks.

Its a neat idea, and maybe my beef is more with the unidirectional nature of the trains, than with design issues on the roundhouse.The roundhouse does provide several new options for imaginary play.Its well built, quite colorful, and integrates nicely with the existing Geotrax layout.Most kids(large and small) will be quite happy with this Geotrax addition.

I'm buying Geotrax vehicles since two years ago, and we are very happy (my child and I) about the quality and fun in every pack that we've bought.

I was yesterday unpacking Workin' Roundhouse, and oh my Good !! it's too big !!, where I'll put it?. The toy is great, the locomotive arrives, and turn to one of the 3 bays: a washing machine, a bay where you can "fix" your trains, and a one more bay where the trains can "sleep". The turntable is easy to use and you should have trains and a lot of tacks to ensamble in your Geo Trax System.

If you are buying all Geo Trax items, you should consider to have one room or a big area for it.

My kids and I were pretty excited about this addition to the Geotrax set, at Christmas.It turns out, it's pretty frustrating.

Like other reviewers have said, the turntable doesn't work all that well with multiple car trains.Then, when it's set for the train to drive on through without stopping, the trains sometimes get hung up on the "climbing" mechanism.

This particular addition takes up ALOT of space.While it's still connected to our geotrax set, I'm just not impressed with it's function.We have lots of other sets that are much better additions.This one just frustrated my kids, with not being able to turn around once in the "stall".

We just moved into a new house and one of the KEY requirements was a game room for all of the GeoTrax toys that we have we bought the roundhouse for our son as a surprise for the new house. He doesn't even care if it's hooked up to the rest of the tracks he makes his own sounds as the trains turn and as they get washed and gassed up too.I LOVE that he's so creative and expressive when he plays with ANY Of the GeoTrax toys.My ONLY complaint is that it is just so big. When you're out of control and you're buying all the cool new pieces to GeoTrax, you had better make room for it all!High Five Fisher Price cool toys :)

Hats off to the Fisher Price designers!

The roundhouse has several neat features:

1. it automatically disconnects all cars off the train engines (since there is room for only one engine on the turn table)

2. the gates go up and down automatically when the turn table is not aligned to the main track

3. The turn table pauses at each of the possible branches for about 5-10 seconds, which makes it easy for little engineers to line the engine up with the next track

If you are not familiar with the geomotion system: a lever on each building selects either let the trains drive through, or stop the trains and use the train motor (based on the gear tooth on the bottom of the train) to drive some mechanical feature of the building.

The Clone Wars: A Star Wars Miniatures Booster Expansion (Star Wars Miniatures Product)

Got this and several similar packs to play with some friends who were getting back into the habit of playing role-playing games.The miniatures themselves are little over an inch tall and made of plastic. The only problem I have is that you never quite know what you will find in the box and some of parts of the pieces are thin and delicate, so they will break if you're not careful, but easy to repair if such a thing happens. Overall the pieces are nice to have for a more visual type of RPG gaming.

What can I say, the kid likes it. Much cheaper online, than in the malls.

Picture looks much cooler than the toy itself.Magnets are actually large, matte-painted wedges.Could definitely have had more aesthetic appeal.As is, they are sufficient.My 4 year old finds the magnets interesting so they get some playtime.But in my opinion, there are much cooler magnet toys out there.

this figure was perfect. it looked like slice. i have been following slice since the street fighting days. had to watch those fights with the sound down brutal. but the figure was awsome.

It has an uncanny resemblance to kimbo slice. Overall the figure is great. There are some things that could be changed: like his tattoo art could be a little better but it a really awesome figure any way.

I ordered this as a special stuffed toy for my daughter.She loves it and has been crawling around the house with it.The toy is a little understuffed, making it extra soft and huggable.The fur is very soft and has a silky feel.The seams are well sewn and the button eyes seem firmly attached.The tag says that it is hand washable in cold water, air dry.You can't every predict what's going to be that special toy for your child, but I'm kind of hoping she picks this one to latch on to.

it is actually very cute! i have bought several plush dogs for my young sons latelykeep looking for the One...i almost bought this one a couple times but bought others instead but i kept coming back to this one. it's hard to tell online. in my opinion this is a very sweet cute dog. the eyebrows are a bit funky on the one we gotthey obscure the eyes usually. but my son (3y/o) pushes them down over the eyes to say the puppy is going to sleep and pushes them up out of the eyes to say puppy is awake again. it's fun for him. all the seams are good. it holds an adorable sitting pose like pictured or will also lay down. it wont stand up. my son is sleeping hugging puppy as i type this.i am quite pleased with this puppy. the tail which isn't pictured is about an inch and a half of the dark brown.

Shoot-The-Moon Board Game

This game is just like the one the one I remembered from 40 years ago. My kids love it, their friends think it's great. It's sturdy, it works, it has no batteries. What's not to like?

If you buy this for the nostalgic game play, be prepared to be disappointed. It's nearly impossible to get anything but the highest spot. To make it more difficult, I've reversed wood holding the rods in place, there by increasing the slope. This change can be done with little effort, though I don't think it will last very long unless you drill out a recessed area for the screw heads like the product was intended to be put together.

Even with this modification, I've found that you'll still want to prop the back up by a half inch to increase the difficulty.

Our parents have an older version of this game so we thought the kids would enjoy having one.The new one we received is so easy it is ridiculous-there is no challenge.I'm not sure if we got a defective one or if it was made to be easier, regardless it was a huge disappointment.God forbid things be hard to do-the kids might actually learn patience and perseverence.

This version of "shoot the moon" is just about as good as the original (1940s-50s). Which can't be said for some of the others being sold. It's sturday and easy to assemble, but:

The small wooden piece at the front where the two metal rods are anchored has holes for 2 screws (included). Those holes are countersunk on one side, so you know which end is up. The resulting angle of incline makes "shooting the moon" (getting the steel ball into the last hole) much too easy!

I helped myself by widening the first 1/8 inch of the holes on what should have been the lower edge of that piece of wood and mounting it upside down. That lowered the front end of the rods just about right to make the game as challenging as the original.Of course one could alternatively mount pads under the rear to raise it sufficiently to achieve the desired degree of difficulty. And maybe some buyers will want it to be easy (at first), particularly if given to younger children. Once the child (or adult!) has mastered it, one can always do what I did and/or raise the rear to raise the level of skill required.

Namco Pac Mans Arcade Party Cabaret Game Cabinet

Just had one of these delivered today.As a 42-year-old who grew up in the "Golden Age" of arcade gaming, and spent many hours AND quarters in several arcades, I have enjoyed most of the titles that are included with Pac-Man's Arcade Party for multiple decades.When the opportunity presented itself to own a machine like this, that could capture the feeling of playing some of the most popular titles of my youth in front of a stand-up machine, I jumped at the chance.

Having said that, there's opportunities to own all of these titles that won't cost you anywhere near $3000.Namco compilations containing several of these games have been around since the days of the original Playstation, and continue to be released with each new generation of home consoles.And with quality arcade sticks available for current consoles such as the Xbox 360 and PS3, you can find yourself a system AND controller that can give you almost every nuance of playing your favorite oldies for a fraction of Pac-Man's Arcade Party's cost.

As far as owning Pac-Man's Arcade Party goes, if you decide to cough up the coin, here is what you can expect:

1) Cabinet is solidly constructed and looks good too.Being a cabaret unit, it doesn't take up too much space, making it perfect for home use.The lighted marquee is a nice touch that gives the unit even more of an arcade feel.The silver T-moldings give the cabinet that extra level of classy polish.

2) Joystick and buttons are of good but not great quality.For almost $3000 I would expect top-of-the-line components being used for the controls.The joystick feels like it should be thicker and heavier.

3) The games actually look a little worse on the provided 19" LCD screen than they did on the CRT screens of old.The CRT screens had a way of softening and bleeding pixels together to give these aging titles a "smoother" look.The crispness of the LCD screen actually hurts these games from a visual standpoint.Colors also seemed a little dull, and there is no way to adjust the brightness, contrast, or any other settings of the screen.What you see it what you get.

4) The supplied joystick is a 4-way stick only.That means it's terrific for games using only two directions (like Galaxian and both Galagas) and four directions (such as Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, and Dig Dug).That also means it's absolutely terrible for games like Dragon Spirit and Xevious, as this joystick does not allow you to move diagonally in any direction.If Namco's plan was to supply only a four-way stick that cannot be switched to an 8-way stick, they should not have included titles that can require an 8-way stick to played properly.Dragon Spirit and Xevious are rendered almost unplayable due to this issue.At this price tag, every game that can't be enjoyed is a major setback.

Complaints aside, there is something cool about playing in front of a machine that has the LOOK of an arcade game, even if the 80s experience isn't delivered 100% intact.And some of the games here really work well on this cabinet, even with the LCD screen doing more to highlight each games' graphical age than to enhance their visuals.Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man really shine due to the four-way stick, and Galaxian and both Galagas are done justice as well.The other eight titles feel more like filler throw-ins, and some of those games, like Dragon Spirit and Xevious, simply cannot be played correctly with the limitations of the four-way stick.But to play Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man and Galaxian and Galaga and be able to do it on an arcade unit...at home no less...pretty amazing feeling, and one that brings back a lot of memories and nostalgia.For some, those "return to a simpler time" flashbacks coupled with an arcade-like experience might be enough to offset the high cost and lack of top-of-the-line components.But for most, the much cheaper home console compilations will probably be plenty adequate.

Hey. Anyone that's owned a Namco Museum game collection knows what I'm talking about. But this time, the arcade classics are coming back to the scene with this extremely epic machine! Not only does it have Pac-Man and Galaga, but with several more games included! PLUS, you don't even need more arcade machines for the other games! They are all crammed into here unharmed.

Pac-Man: Must I say anything about this one? It's one of the most addicting games of all time.

Ms. Pac-Man: Better than the original!

Galaxian: Namco's answer to Space Invaders, this shooter's in color and has aliens that dive toward you!

Galaga: This sequel to Galaxian makes it even better by being able to shoot multiple missles, as well as stunt-performing aliens.

Galaga '88: Oh, my god. Do NOT miss out on this one. It's got amazing graphics, sound effects, and you can even start with a double-ship (Although you'll have one less life)!

Pac-Mania: This pseudo-3D Pac-Man game has him star in a handful of different mazes, in a similar fashion to Ms. Pac-Man, but with even more variety.

Mappy: A classic cat 'n mouse chaser with a Pac-Man-ish goal Collect all objects in the level

Rally-X: More arcade game than racer, Rally X has you steer a car to collect flags on the road while smokescreening your enemies.

And yet there's some more games! Sadly, I do not know too much about a couple (Rolling Thunder...), but even if there are games you don't like, this machine is still worth it for AT LEAST a few classics fully restored in their arcade glory!
