My son found Super Mario Bros. Chess online and decided to buy it with his birthday money.The pieces are well made and sturdy. They are also clearly marked as to which type of piece they are: pawn,rook,queen,etc.I think using the Mario Bros. characters makes the game a little more fun to learn for younger kids. My son is 8 and he has been asking everyone to play chess with him since his game arrived. I think he would give it a two thumbs up and so do I.

I debated buying this several times, but the price always kept me away.I finally took the plunge and bought it, hoping it would interest my 7 year old son in chess.

And it worked.He absolutely loves playing this.The pieces are quite durable they are good enough to be stand alone figures if they weren't attached to their bases.

It takes a little while to get used to what figure it what (Luigi is the queen??) but once you figure it out, it becomes second nature.

The board gets very crowded Bowser is huge, so its often difficult to see open diagonal paths.

The bottom line is that if your kid loves Mario, then they will love this.I've recommended it to several friends and while it is a bit pricey, it really is worth it.

It comes in a nice tin that protects the game pieces.

You might also check our Mario Yahtzee it is quite good as well.

This was given to my six year old. He likes playing chess and loves Mario. The combination is great and the pieces look wonderful! The detail work is amazing.But I don't care for the board. I thought it would be sturdier but it is only cardboard. It folds in four and that I know will not last too long. I also wish there was a better storage for the pieces. The plastic that it came in will eventually break and the pieces will be thrown around in the tin.

This is truly a "busy-box" that has fun things to do and is Educational. My son is 3.5 and he loves it, so I love it. I'd buy it again. Kindergarten is no longer a fun little class where you begin to learn. (like in my day 50'COUGH'40 yrs ago) Kids now-a-days have to practically have a college education before they'll let you in! I love learning myself, and knowledge *is* the key to success (imho) but wow! and while I'm glad I can still afford to have my son in preschool 2 days a week, we needed something at home, and Ready, Set, School Activity Box is really great! 1. Washable notebooks including a washable felt marker.

2. A cute little tennis shoe with BIG laces and a fun little chart to teach how to tie a (bow) shoe lace (yes even though most of the world is now velcro)

First, I want to say that we LOVE Alex's craft box kits!We have so many even doubles of some.I ordered this boxed set for my 3 year old for Easter.We were so excited to sit down and open it.Our excitement didn't last too long however.The safety scissors are a big disappointment.They are difficult to use and can barely cut.There is safety and then there is useless.These are useless.Everything that is perforated (snake, lion,...) rips when you try to pop it out.I am an adult very experienced with perforated edges (1st grade teacher) and these are horrible.We ruined the snake to the point of my 3 year old crying.I tried taping it, but I am still angry. And this kit does not include a glue stick which you need like the other Alex kits.So I could keep complaining because everything seems tainted now, but I'll stop.I would have returned it, but my sonwanted to play so bad.P.S. I have opened the sneaker yet.I hope it is a good product because it looks cute.

This was a Christmas gift for my two little ones who adore the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.I was so disappointed to see #1, that the paint job is shoddy.The paint had already rubbed off of Mickey's nose onto the packaging.And #2, Daisy, Donald and Mickey don't stand up at all and it's very hard to make Minnie stand up.The product picture is very deceiving.I'm really not impressed and had I known it, I wouldn't have purchased them.

Came in an unsealed box.Inside the box was a previously opened package which had been resealed with scotch tape. Inside that package was the engine with back coupler and moving eyes loose in the package. Fortunately the tiny screw which holds the coupler was still in the package. I was able to reconnect the coupler and also snap the moving eyes back in their proper places. Then I placed it on our train set and found it goes half the speed of the Thomas the Tank Engine we also use. Otherwise, the grandson loves it so I guess we are happy.

This toy was a special gift to my grandaughter for Christmas; she very much enjoyed playing with it for several hours after it was all set-up.However, after 12 hours of operation the controller for the playset broke.If the controller is not working the train does not move from its battery power and loses almost all of its play value.Two technically skilled adults took the controler apart but could not make it operational. There was much disappointment by all who were present.

In an attempt to get a new controller I began trying to contact Lionel headquarters the Monday after Christmas.It took me until Friday afternoon January 8th to get through to a live body in Technical

Support at Lionel.I estimate ten phone calls,three disconnects and two 30 minute waiting periods

before I was able to speak to an appropriate Lionel representative.I learned that Lionel inventories no replacement parts for this playset.I was told that my only option to get another controller was

to buy another complete playset at the MSRP of $59.99 plus shipping.

I find it inconceivable that a children's toy train company that has been in business for over 100 years, marketing a new produjct designed for 2 1/2 to six year olds would stock no replacement parts

for it.This experience with Lionel has been unsatisfactory in terms of the durability of the product,

the difficulty in communicating with customer service and the inability to be able to correct what should be a relatively minor problem.

I almost did not buy this because of some bad reviews.Glad I did, my 3 year loves it and has been playing with it all Christmas day.

1.The train turns off automatically if not used for 5 minutes press the smoke stack to start again (some reviews said the train stopped working this is probably why)

2.The controller uses IR and must be pointed away from the child and toward the train in order for it to work.My son kept holding it backwards once we figured this out it has worked great.

3.My only complaint is my children are used to toy trains where they can move the train by pushing it on the track and since this is gear driven whenever they try and push it by hand it will fall off the track also if the switch tracks are turned the wrong way it will derail easy.

Overall it turned out to better then I thought from the other reviews.

This train set is tons of fun!The track can be set up in a few different ways, it offers a fun little cargo crane to load and unload boxes, has fun noises and lights and best of all I enjoy it too!My daughter is 2 1/2 and between her 3 year old friend and her they play with this for hours!My 7 month old loves to watch them play with it.The Engine train has an infrared sensor and I suspect that some of the users who had trouble with this train didn't follow the rule that the remote has to be pointed at the sensor on the train or it may not respond, just like if you point your remote at your cat your tv may not turn on.

The tracks are a little difficult to snap together but they stay in place quite well.I only with I could find more trains and track to add to it!I highly recommend this for any parent of a young child interested in trains!

I bought this for my 4 year old for Christmas, as he is a train fanatic. I thought this would be perfect for him, as it's durable and can withstand some minor abuse.

Unfortunately, the remote lasted only a day. New batteries didn't fix it. I'll be returning it to the hobby shop, as I see this is a recurring theme on these reviews. Too bad.

Disney EVA Table Lamp, One Size

I purchased this lamp in July of 2006 for my son's 4th birthday.We have used it every night since then.The switch is easy enough for him to turn on and off by himself.The lamp does not get hot even when it is left on for 24 hours straight.It radiates just the right amount of light for a small/moderate bedroom.My little one enjoys looking at the pattern of red lights on the walls and ceiling formed by the fused plastic "beads".I would definitely recommend this lamp to anyone who would be interested. (well worth the $9.99 price tag)

Our daughter absolutly loved this light, however, the first night we had it, we discovered that the light bulb in the lamp was touching the blue plastic base and it almost caught on fire. We could have received a flawed unit or perhaps one that was manufactured incorrectly, but it could have cost us our house or our lives. The problem was that there is a hole in the top of the blue plastic that tinkerbell sits upon. There is also a hole in the bottom of the blue plastic that the light bulb goes through. The holes were not centered directly above one another. The hole on the top of the base was offset to one side, so when the bulb is put in place, it touches the blue plastic creating the problem. I would consider this one a fire hazard.

My son loves anything Lightning McQueen.This lamp looks great, is light-weight, easy to turn on and off, and does not get hot if left on all night.The only real issue I have is that I hadn't figured on how creepy it is at night for the room to be bathed in a blood red glow.Decide if that will bother your child before you purchase this lamp.Also since the lamp is so light-weight, be careful where you run the cord.Ours ends up getting bumped or pulled to the floor quite a bit.

After leaving the light on in my daughters room for a few nightsbecause she loves it I saw it on Amazon and went into her room to turn it off I didn't look at it... Sure enough the plastic around it was very hot and it looked as though plastic beads were melting together. I then looked at the tag and it very clearly states that the light is for for temporary use 90 days max only. Not worth the money at all or chance that it might catch fire if by chance you should leave it on longer.

I really like this mah jongg table cover.The color is pretty, the design really nice.My only complaint is that one of the corners was very wrinkled when it arrived.I tried to iron it, and I think I ruined the fabric a little bit.It still is not completely flat.It's really not a problem for playing, but I wanted it to be perfect since I bought it brand new.I think it looks really cool on the table, though, and any of the other colors are probably just as cool.I'm glad I bought it, a little pricey though.

This is a great carrying case for Take N Play trains.However, the track part is not so good.The case part is "top heavy" and tends to fall over while trying to play with the trains on the track at restaurants.If you lay the case part down, the track is at an odd angle and not easy to play with.Overall, we are happy with this buy but still take one of the smaller Take N Play tracks(usually Maithwait Station) with for the actual playing while out.

The only problem I had this item was the instant I took it out of its plastic wrap and opened it up, the chalkboard fell out of its hinges on the top.A little bit of extra strength super glue fixed it and am hoping the dry erase side doesn't fall out later.Otherwise my 2.5yr old loves writing with the chalk and putting magnetic letters on the other side.Great investment even if I have chalk dust all over my floor.

The "dry erase" board is only a white plastic board with plastic over the top; therefore, it is next to impossible to clean. I was very disappointed and would not recommend this to anyone

This table-top easel would be a great and useful "toy" if it were made well. We homeschool and have had this easel for a couple of years. It almost immediately fell apart. We have re-glued and re-stapled it several times. All Melissa and Doug painted-wood items we have purchased have not held together. This is because all the individual parts are painted before gluing, and the joints don't hold. As I stare at the pieces of this easel, which has fallen apart YET AGAIN, I would suggest that you search for a better table-top easel.

I like this little easel very much.I teach literacy and I needed something I could put on top of a table.It allows the kids to have a close view of the letters and words.Since painting is not part of my program, I use the holders for my pencils and markers...Perfect!I have to transport it back and forth several times from my literacy program site to my car, so I do wish that it folded without my having to unscrew the wooded pegs each time.However, if you have a permanent spot for this little easel, you will just love it!
