Lord of the Rings Boxed Gift Set - There and Back Again - Set of 5 Figures

After reading these reviews I had mixed thoughts. I am 13 and I display my figures, but also play with them and put them in action setups.But for christmas I got a 30 dollar gift card and decided to spend it on this gift set after much thinking.I opened it to find 5 very nice,detailed,great likeness, and very fun figures!I already had a Frodo with lightup sting,but I did not have any of the other hobbits,which I really needed. Frodo is one of the best versions of Frodo I have seen. Great likeness, very good outfit, and very poseable. Sam is pretty much the same. Again a great outfit, amazing likeness, and poseable. Merry and Pippen are my favorite out of this set. They have very nice likeness and are the most fun to play with, I dont know why, but I just prefer them. Now onto Bilbo. Bilbo was one of my least favorite characters in the trilogy. I really loved him in the hobbit, but didn't care for him in these movies. But this is a very good figure. Like others have said, it's not the same bilbo in ROTK, He looks much younger and happier here. Poseable and good likeness. The journal is pretty useless, but good for display. The outer of it has a nice slick feel, with BB and an evenstar on the front. Inside it has the words from the movie and some maps. Very detailed. Overall very nice figures. I was hesitant,but love it now!Thanks for reading my review!

I am pretty happy with the gift pack.I have a huge collection, so it was fitting for me to add this gift set.I feel this would be for the serious collector or for younger children.The hobbits are dressed in very nice outfits that you would expect them to wear if they were in the Shire.The Bilbo figure is the version that we see in Rivendell, where he has white hair and looks older.None of the hobbits carry extras such as swords.The Helm's Deep set brought out the ferocity of that battle.This set envokes peaceful times that occur in the Shire.I would certainly recommend this gift set.

I purchased this set as a gift for my grandmother. She has been a fan since the mid-60s, and she has a shirt, with the phrase "Frodo Lives", that has been around before the term "Trekkie" ever applied to the fans of Star Trek. My grandmother is a diehard Tolkien fan and loves "The Lord Of The Rings" films by Peter Jackson. I have been looking at this set ever since it was released, a year ago. I finally purchased it and am waiting to give it to my Grandmamma for Christmas. This is an excellent set with an amazing likeness to all of the characters. Although I have not opened this set, I can make out the cover of the "There And Back Again & The Lord Of The Rings" booklet and have seen many pictures. This is my favorite featured piece of the set, for not only does it hold very much sentimental value for me, but it will also be very important to my Grandmamma. The figures are rather fantastic, save for Bilbo (played by verteran actor Ian Holm), which is a much younger version than the 128-year-old Bilbo that appears in the film. That being my only critisism, this is an excellent gift set and would make a terrific addition to any fan's collection. Keep up the good work, Toy Biz.

It depends on what kind of toy-buyer you are to determine whether or not you would enjoy this set. If you are buying it for younger children, to play with, then this might not quite be the set you are looking for, especially since the five hobbits do not come with swords. (A MUST for combat play!)

Bilbo is the key factor in this set. He is in his fine, distinguished hobbit clothes, and his aged hair and face, such as he had in Rivendell. It's exclusive, and the big plus in buying this set.

Frodo has a post-RotK hand. Those of you who have seen the movie, or read the books, you know what I mean, but for the rest, I cannot say more lest I spoil it for you. His clothes are fine Shire quality.

Sam is pretty much the same, as are Merry and Pippin. All are dressed as you would find them out for an evening in the Shire.

The set also comes with a diary, a There and Back Again vintage diary. It's not bad...kind of small.

If you like gift sets, or collector's sets, you'll probably like this. But like I said, if play is what you have in mind, you'll probably want to mix-and-match some single hobbit sets.

HABA Sunshine Mobile

So, most importantly, our baby girl absolutely LOVES this thing.We hung it over her changing pad when she was about 5 weeks old, and over the last 2-3 months, this mobile has more than paid for itself in hours of "flower buddies" fun for her.

The best things about this mobile:

Bright, pretty colors which attract a baby's attention

Three of the flowers have little faces on them so when the baby looks up at the flowers, the faces smile down on her.It's just adorable.

Finally it's made by HABA, and I have yet to be disappointed with anything I've gotten from them!

The only thing that it could use is a stronger ring from which to hang the flowers the one inside seems to bow a bit, but this is a minor thing and doesn't merit removing a star.

Another great feature is the uniqueness I mentioned above we have gotten more compliments on this mobile.It's pretty "old-school" i.e., no motorized parts, no music, no lights, and no arm to hang it from the side of a crib in essence, you get what you see in the picture.And thank goodness this mobile has bought us months of happy baby time!We've got it suspended from a little hook in the ceiling, and wouldn't have it any other way.

I really like all the product from Haba, especially this mobile. They are made in Germany of high quality materials, and have a sweetness and charm that a lot of US products lack. I love the colors too.

The only thing about this mobile that was a little unexpected was that it doesn't come with an arm to hang from the edge of the crib. Instead, we hung it from the ceiling on some elastic. Worked great.

We bought this mobile for my daughter before she was born and it is still one of her favorite things at 11 months.She likes to hold conversations with her "flower friends"

The best things about this mobile are:

1.)The faces of the flowers point toward the baby!(Why do most mobiles have the faces pointed at the adults anyway.It's not meant to be your toy!)

2.)The mobile is colorful to stimulate the baby's senses, but not over stimulating.

3.)It can be spun around by the parents

4.)It's by HABA and you can find all sorts of cute toys and decor to match

Things to keep in mind are:

1.)It has to be hung from the ceiling instead of having an arm attaching it to the crib.I really like this because it meant that I didn't have to discard her mobile when she was old enough to sit up and stand up in her crib.

2.)It is not mechanical and doesn't play music or spin itself.I count this as a plus since a lot of that music is canned and awful.My daughter disliked the synthesized music played by her bouncy chair and various toys anyway!

One of the other reviewers said that the ring had warped with the weight, but ours is still straight.The ring feels like it is not very thick, though, so I can see how this might be an issue.My daughter has had a lot of fun with her mobile, and it was worth every penny!

Sand and Water Play Set

I bought this toy at Target for $10 last Spring. My kids are now 6 1/2 and 5 1/2. This toy has stayed out in all weather and been exposed to direct sun for extended hot periods. My kids and their friends all gravitate to this toy. I fill mine with both sand and water. Because of it's size it's incredibly easy to clean-just dump, spray off, and start new! There is lots of fun activities to explore: crane, boats, dry areas, blockades, and paddle wheels which control water flow direction and speed. My kids play with this on the grass, the driveway, or sometimes on a small table. It has been such a great hit that this Spring I bought the freestanding Step 2 Sand and Water table with the umbrella and secure lid. What a fabulous activity toy!!! Bring it into the garage or basement during foul weather and fill with dry pasta, beans, rice, or even pea gravel! As far as the assembly-big deal! What a bunch of winers. Look at the price for heavens sake! All the pieces break off the plastic grid and simply snap together. I didn't think it was laborsome at all, and I didn't have any sharp tag edges.

Cute toy...but be prepared to spend up to 45 minutes to put it all together. There are tons of little pieces to assemble, but it is simple and easy to do...with clear instructions.

It is a great little water toy, well worth the $9.99 I spent.

I am a special education preschool teacher. I bought one of these toys and then had to order another because my kids loved it so.It is true that there is some assembly required, however it is well worth it. It keeps my little 3 and 4 year olds happily experimenting with water for long periods of time. It is also durable. This is just an excellent toy for preschool children.

Kid o Bilibo

Had two Bilibo's delivered to my grandchildren (ages 1.5 and 2.5) while we were on vacation.What great fun the Bilibo's are!They spin and rock in them, sort toys into them, cradle their babies in them and walk around with them on their heads acting like cartoon characters.We haven't even tried them out in snow!The play value is immense and never ending which is what great toys become.

And while at my 2.5 yr. grandchild's, she stands in it, hangs on to a chair and twists and balances standing in it.Her mother was a gymnast and NCAA diver and this looks like a great toy to build those ankles up for balancing and take-offs.The 1.5 yr. old uses it for his cars and trucks and plays train with the Bilibo as a tunnel.He also uses it like the back of a dump truck.

I would rank the Bilibo up there with staples for the nursery/kindergarten like blocks and balls.There is no end to the creativity and usefulness a child gets from it.It looks like fun and the children see it that way immediately.I bought it using Amazon's system of review and bestsellers, the video of the Bilibo and my child development education background.On all levels it was A+!!

I see that a few other reviewers were bothered that it isn't more functional as a chair.I agree that it is not the most comfortable of chairs.This does not bother me, however, because it's design is very well suited to the active and creative use intended.

It's best use is not as a single self-contained, self explainatory activity (the simple rocking, balancing, or spinning never lasts long around here), but as an accessory to any number of activities and imaginative games.In addition to being the means to some serious dizziness, ours has been a tunnel, a sled, a cave, a chariot, a stool, a mountain, a cradle, and so much more.

There have been times when it was tucked away and unused, but the kids are always excited when they rediscover it and suddenly it returns to being the most cherished and fought over among toys.

I admit to having a few initial doubtmy kids' interest was short lived when I introduced it as a single straightforward activity.It was as an accessory to all their everyday play that it really started to shine.Now I consider it to be one of my best toy purchases.

My children, ages 4.5 and 2.5 each got two of these for Christmas.They are a big hit.I'm very impressed with the construction, which is of a thick plastic, I can flip it over and stand on top myself and it only flexes slightly on our slippery kitchen floor.They are a good size an adult of medium build could sit in one.My kids can get in and cross their legs inside too.

The shape is great two of them fit together to form a kind of spherical shape.The two holes are inspired as they love putting them on their heads and looking through the holes.They have found a ton of uses so far!They spin the bilibo and put a marble in and watch it go around.They spin around in them themselves.They have used it as the center in their block building expeditions, as a seat and to port toys around the house.

I am very impressed with this toy I love how it inspires creativity and active play.I would definitely recommend getting one or several!

Update 4 years later these have stood the test of time.They are not only still in perfect condition, the kids still enjoy playing with them now at ages 6 and 8.

Neat to look at, but it pinches fingers when my kids roll in it. Also, both of them have fallen backwards and hit their heads on the floor. Might work if you have shag carpet or a matted surface. So far this thing is a dirty clothes collector.

A few months back, based on some glowing recommendations, I bought this "toy" for my son. Several times, I have tried to get him to play with his Bilbo -to no avail. It is simply not any fun.

It looks like a broken swing seat. My kid keeps his cars in it. Sometimes he will stand on it, but he NEVER plays with it. He had more fun with the box. I would not recommend this "toy" for any child of any age.

All the King's Men Chess Style Game Vintage

Bought this game in the '80s and loved and lost it.Now I have it again.The gametook real strategy because you really had to pay attention to the placement of your men because your man's movement is determined by the arrows on the squares.GREAT game.

Euro II Grow With Me Chair

I bought one of these secondhand at a consignment shop and it has been such a lifesaver.I can finally get my sons to sit in their seat and not my lap.They are able to get up to the table and eat comfortably without the seat sliding around like some of the boosters we have tried.I am now buying two more so everyone has one. It is a must have for the step between highchair and regular chair.

I have had one chair for my 3 yr oldgranddaughter for a year. It's been so wonderful I got a second one for our 1.5 yr old too.They fight over the one we have. It has held up beautifully and works great at the table. Highly recommend this chair. It is sturdy and stable even as they climb up and down.

perfect chair for eating and doing homework at the dining room table. My 3 and 5 yr old use these chairs constantly and so far (5 months in) they've held up fine. I am from Germany and chairs such as these are very common there. I was very pleased to have found some at a reasonable price. It was easy to put the two chairs I bought together and they are sturdy enough. The cushion is a bit thin and covered in plastic that probably won't stand the test of time but the chair itself is great. Makes for much better posture for my little guys and less fidgeting at the table. Homework looks better now too :-)

Disney Pooh Storage Activity Table and Chairs Set

This table is very cute. I know my granddaughter will love it. Problem is it lacks a heavy duty finish on legs. The applied stickers on the chair were placed by an amateur. They are crooked and do not square up to the seat. It is quite colorful on the table top. Unfortunately, it is a decal and my table had scratches on the main surface as it came out of the box. It is cheaply packed and therefore the messed up parts pose a risk to a toddler. It will most likely continue to lose the decal as it is played upon. I will be contacting amazon to see if it can be replaced with parts in new condition, since this is what I paid for. The unfortunate other part is this is Christmas. No time to get it changed out before handing it over to my first grand baby.With better packing this might be avoided..

Musical Activity Walker

I bought this for my son when he was 5 months old.He was interested in it when it was an activity table, but not as a walker.

I bought this on the local economy (I live overseas) and was glad to read that other people had the same problems with it that we did.It is too flimsy and not good for new walkers.It would probably be okay for a child who is not using it to pull up and walks well on their own.My son falls everytime he tries to use it and has given up.

The ball worked for us when spun, but it stopped working completely after about 2 months.We cannot return it to the store as the country we live in does not have good consumer laws.My next step is to write to Fisher Price to complain about this problem.

We have a lot of Fisher Price toys and have been happy with most of them.I would only recommend that you read the reviews first.

Scrabble Premier Wood Edition

I wanted a nice gift for wife for Christmas and she loves Scrabble. In theory, this is a nice set. I like the rotating board and storage option, but I feel that the quality is not what I would expect for $100. The "sticker" overlay for the board has a wrinkle in it and scratches easily. The wood has a ding in it. I had hoped that this would be something that would last for years to come, but I am not sure why the manufacturing is not up to par. It, like most toys and items these days, is made in China. The game itself is fun and I like the nice touches, but I think Hasbro's quality control may be slipping.

This edition is very nice for any true Scrabble fan, especially with the wood rotating board and nice tile bag.However, this can be purchased directly from Hasbro .Why pay double the price when it is in stock there?You can also frequently find coupons for free shipping and 10-25% off as well.I love Amazon but some of the people who sell products on through Amazon are pathetically over-priced.

My husband purchased the Deluxe Scrabble game because, after playing every day for over 15 years our old Scrabble game was beginning to wear out.When he lifted the new game from the box about 50 ball bearings fell out of the part that allows the game to revolve.They bounced all over the floor.No one had bothered to plug the hole.These metal bearings would be DANGEROUS FOR CHILDREN.

The "Faux Ivory" letter pieces are just white plastic, not as nice as the wooden ones in our old, less expensive set. When I reached inside the bag, I said "J" because I could feel the outline of the letter.

The top of the board is made of paper which looks like it will wear out very quickly. Our cheaper set is paper protected by clear plastic so it doesn't scratch, stain, or wear out.

It is obvious by the poor workmanship that this product was not made in the USA.

Scrabble is an enduring, educational and endlessly challenging game.It does not have to be

"Faux Deluxe" or overpriced to be worthwhile. We are returning it.

Mini Tabletop Fire Bowl

Look carefully at the pretty flame seen in all of the screenshots.That is what you will not be getting with this Bowl.It is a bowl of cheap orange cloth (about six pieces on a hanger and mostly cut with square ends) that is lofted with a small fan and illuminated with two LED lights.

So, what does it look like when it is running?Why, a bowl of cheap orange cloth blown by a fan, what else.It is right on the ragged edge of too-cheap-for-returning and it did go to the trash.Still, this is my negative endorsement for all of you.

These flame lights look amazing in a dark room.The 'flames' flicker in and provide a great reddish-orange light.They arrived quickly and were in perfect condition.

At first glance the Playskool Musical Activity Ball and Gear Center looks impressive. It has five gears, music, and balls that drop, but then you realize.. is that it? The gears turn and music plays, but the balls simply roll seemingly without a purpose. You can see it in the video, but the concept is pretty basic you push a button, the gears spins, and music plays.While to me it seems pretty simple, but my 11-month old-daughter enjoys playing with it. While I wouldn't call it her favorite toy she does enjoy it....almost to my amazement.

Final Verdict My initial thought was that my daughter would lose interest in less than 2 minutes, however I am surprised that she is playing with it a week later.

()Overall, this toy is pretty fun for a baby. I've played with my friend's 14 month-old with this toy and it kept her occupied for a good 15 minutes. She had a lot of fun figuring out where to put the balls and got excited anticipating them to pop out; also she had fun taking the gears off and putting them back on and turning them. The balls are large enough that she can't fit them in her mouth and there's a little slot for the balls to stay in when you're not using them (so they don't get lost). It's pretty sturdy as she was being a bit rough with it and didn't fall apart. The music is not totally annoying, so that's a plus too.

()Durable and easy to assemble are the highlights of this Playskool toy.Otherwise, it's had it's 5 minutes of fame in our home, and likely will be stashed away while my young sons play with other toys they find more amusing.My boys are 8 months and 2 years old.The 2 year old likes to run around with the balls best, and finds the rest of toy less than engaging.My 8 month old has been amused with the music playing, and may become interested in turning the gears--that is if the toy even still interests him in the near future.The gears turn well and they stack easily, but they don't DO anything.Turning the gears doesn't make the music turn on, or make the balls drop.The balls must be manually dropped down, and all they do is drop.When they drop, they don't cause the music to turn on, either.Only pushing down the red smiley face on the right corner makes the music go.If pushed far enough down, the gears will also turn.If the gears played more of a role in causing the music to play or the balls to roll, I probably would have rated this toy better.As it is, the elements are not related to each other at all.

Overall, save your money for other toys which will likely get better use.

()My eighteen-month-old grandson and his dad tried out the 'Playskool Musical Activity Ball and Gear Center.'

My son's report reads:I'd give it 3 stars, I think Benji would give it 4 right now.

I think the detachable gears and the balls are going to get separated from the toy and the big plastic base will be a lot less interesting without them.Also, while the toy is interesting now, it might not hold his attention as he gets bigger, whereas something like a toy truck is interesting now and when he's a little older.

But now, while the parts are relatively together and he's 18 months, he likes playing with it.

I can't speak on behalf of children of other ages, but it's a bit simple for an eighteen-month-old and likely to be left in pieces (after being enjoyed for a while).

Bottom line: Three and a half stars. Not a great buy for the outlay.

()This toy survived my five-year-old's abuse, so it's definitely durable.However, he and my toddler both kind of lost interest after a while.Every once in a while my toddler goes over to it and plays for a few minutes.It's neither very engaging nor very educational.If I had to choose again, I'd get something else, like Peek a Blocks or a Busy Ball Popper, or just some wooden blocks.Lots more play value in those.

I had been looking online to get a computer desk for my three year old's computer because the bookshelf I had been using was not really working anymore.It used to be fine when she did not need the keyboard, but now that she needs to see the letters it was time to give her a more comfortable computer experience.It turns out that this table was already inher playroom.It used to be that I would unfold the table when she needed it but it would inevitably make it back into the closet whenever I vacuumed.Now it has a home in the playroom and she has a lot of extra room at the table to use the mouse.I am going to introduce some worksheets that she can work on as she interacts with the computer soon and she will have the extra room she needs.The table is strong enough to hold the computer and the fact that it has an extra chair is great for when she has a friend visit.

First thanks to the reviewers who told us that it did not come with a case.It is the Butterfly 302, 303, 401 series that comes with a head case or full case.Not expecting a case, I did not feel let down.In terms of the paddle itself, it is a very good one.It is my favorite of the paddles that I have in the $25-$45 range.I seem to do better with this one.I like to be aggressive with hard forehand and backhand with some topspin.I am not a big spin or loop player.I do find the spin I put on backhand defensive shots as good or better than any other paddles in the same price range.I like some weight in the handle and the paddle seems average in this regard.To make a comparison, it is the Joola recreationsl paddles that I find to be lighter.I would recommend this Spatha shakehand racket to a competitive recreational player.

I love the paddle, it fits my style perfectly. Really fast but puts great spin on the ball. The only negative in my mind though was that amazon said that the paddle came with a free cover, which was the reason I chose them over other providers selling the same paddle at a lower price without a cover, but when I received the package there was no cover included. Hence, 1 star because misrepresenting a product is a big no-no in my book. I'm not going to take them to court, but I will think twice before buying from Amazon again.

The negative: Extremely light (I prefer a bit heavier).
