Thomas the Train: TrackMaster R/C Victor

Thomas the Train: TrackMaster R/C VictorI bought this Victor RC train along with a Percy RC train for my son's 4th birthday. It worked great even faster than the Percy train for about 8 hours and then inexplicably stopped working. Great!

My son has several toys from the Thomas Trackmaster set and we added this to his collection at Christmas. We have a similar one 'James' that he loves to play with and figured it would be good to have 2 RC trains to have his friends play with when they come over.We opened the box, put fresh batteries in, and were ready to go...the only problem was nothing went. The remote seemed to work, but Victor did not respond to and command. I tried several troubleshooting steps to no luck.I emailed Amazon, who stood by the product and helped us out.I appreciate the great customer service Amazon has, which helps the sting of the toy not working, but nothing will replace how disappointed my son has that the train did not work.

My 3 year old son has autism. He often looks for things to visually stimulate himself. I purchased the Tidsmuth Station set with four additional trains and he loves it. We spend much time together watching and learning colors, names, use of remote controls, and many other things. This is a great toy. The Tidsmuth stations has been bashed for breaking easily, but ours seems to be fine. If you let your children have at it, it will break, but that's not how this toy should be used. Spend time with your kids and this is an excellent experience.

Bought this for Christmas for my grandson. Thought I would try it to make sure it works. Wheels turned onceand quit. Tested batteries and they're ok, but tried another set of batteries and stiil the same.

I have to cross the border to the USA to get it from SCC. mailing address and with bridge toll itand cost me $11.25 .I paid under $20.00 to buy it, so it's not worth crossing the border to return it.I took the motor out so it would be free to turn so my grandson can at least push it around the track.

After I bought this Victor remote controleI train I found other reviews

with people who had the same problem with it not working from the start.

Risk

RiskI started playing Risk! in my late elementary school days. Now, nearly 50, I still enjoy the game immensely.

Several factors combine to make the game entertaining. There is a definite need for strategy, yet much depends on luck (sounds a lot like real war, eh?) both in terms of the roll of the die as well as where you start out geographically on the board, as some areas are much easier to gain and hold than others. The game usually will involve a lot of turns of fortune, adding an interesting emotional component. And, in the end, the winner rules over the entire planet-and who, deep down in the inner sanctum of their imagination and ego, doesn't feel like that's the way it ought to be?

The game has an educational component-primarily from a geographic point of view.A lot of the larger countries are broken down into regions and states within the larger national framework.I first learned a lot of the names of places from the Risk! board.

There is the basic game board, armies (small pieces of plastic or wood (depending on the age of your game), a deck of cards (one for each "country") and dice.

A lot of games come and go.Risk! has been around a long, long time. That in itself speaks volumes.

This is a great game, especially for larger groups (6-8 players) and those with plenty of time on their hands.A typical game will last 3-5 hours.

Go ahead, give it your best shot and see if you have what it takes to conquer the world!

I had looked at this game for years, blissfully ignorant of the addictive dreams that lurked within. Of course, I have always harboured secret desires leaning towards absolute power and control of the globe, so it was no surprise that "Risk" turned out to be perfect.

Basically, the game is played out between up to 6 players with various territories that are under their control. As players dominate entire continents, they gain bonus units for their forces. As they take over territories, they can collect cards for even more units. In this way, you can try to build up for using pure, brute force to achieve dominance.

However, one might like to get into some intrigue and conspiring. This, in my opinion, is where some of the best features of gameplay come out. Just the delicious opportunities to ally yourself with other players to crush a mutual enemy, and then turn on each other when the deed is done. The fluidity of gameplay is greatly enhanced, and the tension mounts with not really knowing who to trust. It is a very important part of the game's appeal and enjoyment, in my opinion.

There are lots of little pieces to the game, so that may be an issue for those with younger children in the house. It is a bit easy to lose pieces. Other than this issue, the pieces and board are quite durable and you should get years of enjoyment out of the game.

For the taste of strategy, crushing opponents like bugs, double-dealing and treachery, all spiced up with pure war, "Risk" is a very addictive and extremely cool game. It will entertain your for hours, and is a great way to spend an evening with friends.

Although, how long they remain friends is open to debate!

Buy Risk Now

This game is a simulated war among 2 to 6 players for world domination. You get bonuses if you control a continent, plus as the game progresses you will have the opportunity to bring more and more reinforcements into battle. Luck is sadly a HUGE factor in risk since the roll of the dice always represents a 50-50 chance of victory. I have seen five units decimate an entire 30+ unit army. This is what will get things heated up. Risk's game play is built in a way that it WILL get the worst out of you, which is good when you're winning and getting on your friends and siblings nerves. There are some extra rules to push up the strategy factor but not enough to make a real difference. The new versions of Risk seem to get it right. So look for Lord of The Rings Risk, Risk 2210 and Risk Godstorm and have fun!

Risk has been around for some time and it has gone trough a gazillion face-lifts. First the game pieces were wooden Roman Numbers (I, V, X). Now we have beautifully detailed plastic soldiers. This version has more changes yet such as:

The cannons now come with its soldier.

New Map design with a Golden Cavalry marker to keep track of reinforcement's level.

Mission rules are remade. Now you have to complete four separate missions to win. The two mission cards are gone. This will avoid your opponents to predict your mission.

This is a new version for collectors and a better version for first timers. Have fun getting under your opponents skin and remember to never hate your enemy; it will affect your judgment.

First, let me say that I do not really consider myself a South American person.Certainly not in the way some people are Australian strategists, who always start off with as many of the four areas of down under as they can get in the initial set up of "Risk."From Australia you have to go for Asia, but from South America you can move to North America or Africa. My objective in the first stage of the game is to have big armies in Central America, North Africa, Southern Europe and the Middle East and control of South America and Africa. This gives me not only control of two continents but denies other control of three more as well.

I have played a computer game version of Risk, but whipping a computer to conquer the world is no way near as much fun as sitting around a table playing with friends in college.Risk is a great game under such circumstances because you do not have to sit at the table the entire time; you can go off, make a sandwich, watching a game on the tube, or whatever, until it is either your turn or somebody yells out, Irkusk is under attack and you need to roll your defense dice. Then it comes down to how lucky you feel, for many an ego has been shot down by trying to take a country and seeing an army decimated by an opponent rolling fives and sixes.

This is also a great game for students of history and/or current events because there is an inherent tendency to provide the game with a narrative structure, especially when some undermanned army puts up a spirited defense. Then those gathered around the board will sing of the glory of the valiant defenders of Iceland, who were able to stave off the horde of "Green Meanies" attacking in three directions. My only complaint was having to pick up all the pieces every time you knocked the tray onto the floor...

Before there were computer games, before there was Dungeon & Dragons, there was Risk as the premier social game for college students.I am sure its rank in the world of competitive gamesmanship has been greatly reduced in the past couple of decades, but in its heyday Risk was the game of choice on weekends.

I feel sorry for people who say their favorite game is something like "Sorry," where a drawn card determines with blind luck the game's outcome. It is more of a diversion than an actual game. I am proud to say "RISK" is my favorite game -luck is one element, but so is strategy and brainpower.

The goal is simple: Rule the world. Unfortunately, there are 2 to 5 opponents in your way. The game tends to last for hours as weaknesses are tested, strategies are played out and brave (or foolish) conquests are carried out. Though many games can last for hours, the tide can turn in a single round. For those fans of strategy games, this is a must-have.

I did take one star off durability because the pieces are rather small. Be prepared to pick a few out of the carpet days after the game has ended. Other than that, take care of your gameboard, cards and pieces and I have no doubt it will last many years.

Angry Birds: On Thin Ice Game

Angry Birds: On Thin Ice GameThis toy is a lot of fun. Children young and old are quite familiar with Angry Birds on their smartphone, tablet, or whatever else. This is a great way to have your kids take a break from the technology and actually interact and play with their hands, instead of just their fingertips on a screen.

The concept is relatively simple of pulling cards of different set-ups to build and then launching the Angry Birds at the structure.

Parents might need to step-in to help little kiddos assemble the structures or provide some guidance on how to work the catapult. Assembling the structure exactly to the picture on the cards takes some doing, but it's not impossible. It's pretty difficult to hit anything with the catapult, but it's fun to try and try again. If you're actually trying to win, it might be good to bend the rules to allow enough tries to hit something, particularly if you have young children. For us, we take turns building it, while the other keeps trying until it gets knocked down. Simple.

I am going to take a different stance on this review. My son loves this set. The thing is, he doesn't play it by the rules so I can't describe how it is. Under normal circumstances, this game is not easy as aiming the birds in a 3-D world is a lot different than on a 2-D phone screen. My boy doesn't use it as a game though. He uses it as a toy. He does make-believe like you would any other toy set. In that regard, he has a lot of fun with it. He creates his own set-ups and takes his other toys to add some flare to his "levels" and proceeds to do his own thing. He also combines this with the other boxed game to create bigger levels with more pigs and birds. So basically, used as a toy, it's really cool. Used as a game, I don't know, I haven't really tried it other than to try to aim with the catapult (and I did it poorly).

Fairly entertaining, but can be a little frustrating too.We added Mulligans to our game play... you get three re-shoots per game.Might have to be higher though it's hard to be consistent with that little slingshot!!Setting them up is fun though, and it's VERY satisfying once you're finally able to get the knack for knocking those suckers off their little perches ;)

My mother and I bought the "on thin ice" game for my niece. She is five years old and loves angry birds.Just for the giggles of it, we cracked it open to give it a test.We both thought the idea was really good, however there was one problemthe launcher is absolutely useless. The bird either flies straight up or it only flies a few inches. We could not imagine how a 5 year old would be able to figure out the mechanics of it.Perhaps I might be able to macguyver a slingshot that would work better.Either way, this game is virtually unplayable.

Okay, so the game is rated for kids 5 and up, and I read a few people's reviews on this game saying that their kids couldn't do this game by themselves and they were 5+ years old... I think it depends on the kid!!!My child JUST turned 3 and he loves playing Angry Birds on his Kindle Fire, he especially loves the Space version but plays Rio, Seasons, and the original version as well. That being said, I bought the Knock on Wood game thinking he wouldn't use the cards because of his age, and just play his own way.WRONG.My child loves this series of games, he builds the structures BY HIMSELF using the cards!!!It is a lot of fun, he will build one structure (Even level 300!) and then I will launch the birds and knock it down. Then I will build a structure and he will knock it down launching the birds.TONS of fun.Granted, if you buy only ONE of these games, buy the Knock on Wood game, as the birds you get (black, yellow, red) and the wood colored pieces is a better set.Otherwise, when you buy more than one set it makes the freestyle building more fun.In fact, we just purchased the Mega Smash set from Amazon and hope to have even more fun building structures. The Mega Smash set comes with blue bird, black bird, yellow bird, and white bird plus 4 pigs (it should be here tomorrow).I also added the large Angry Birds Indoor/Outdoor game to my cart to purchase later to play outdoors.I think taking the video game and making these fun board games is great, because the child takes a break from the video game and plays an interactive board game with family members or friends.Plus, it is great for learning sharing for the younger kids, and also hand eye coordination and connection by using the cards to build the structures.Children have to think to match the pieces they are using to the cards.5 stars for the whole series from this family!

I ordered this to be one of the big gifts for my daughters first Christmas and it isn't even here yet. It was supposed to be at my house by the 21st and here it is Christmas Eve and I am without her big gift! I had to rush out and buy something else because that was going to be from Santa and I have two other kids that would have questioned why their sister didn't get a gift. She is one, so she won't remember but my other kids would have. So as for the quality of the product I cannot yet write a review for that, but if I ever receive it I will gladly add to this.

This is a great Lionel Train to play with. However it does not smoke worth anything! It came with sound which was not advertised in the description so that is a big plus. It also has to figures in the cab for more detail. The lights work well and it has a great back up light. If anyone knows how to turn up the smoke unit it would be nice to find out how to do it. One point of intrest is the fact that Lionel has forgot that children save their money to buy new product and they are not producing trains in the price line that kids can afford.

Fisher-Price Servin' Surprises Birthday Set

Fisher-Price Servin' Surprises Birthday SetThis is seriously so much fun. It pairs up with the Fisher-Price Servin' Surprises Kitchen & Table to play music and sounds super fun! The kids can push up a little button on the back of the candle to make it stay "lit" and it "blows out" by popping back down when they blow on it. So cute and even toddlers can easily make it work.

The cake can be switched to different sides, chocolate or yellow... then they add the "frosting" decorations to the top. The set is really well made, and very durable. Love it!

Gave this to my 3 year old niece today. Her and my 3 year old son sat for about 30 minutes playing with this. It's very cute, and "chunky" for a toddler's hands. I was happy to see my wild one, calm down and play for a minute. Luckily I bought 2, when they were $5.99, a couple of days ago, and "SANTA" has placed one under our tree!

Not really educational, which is what I look for, but very cute and entertaining.

Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway - Water Tower

Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway - Water TowerMy son had been asking for the Water Tower for quite some time, so we finally got it for him.

The plastic that encases the liquid is very, very sturdy--and it has never leaked. (Believe me...my son puts his Thomas accessories through the paces!) It's quite heavy, and fits right onto the wooden railway. By moving the black spout up and down, the blue liquid appears to empty and re-fill.

Kids seem to be fascinated with it, including my son. I definitely recommend the Water Tower as a neat accessory to any wooden railway system.

I bought this genuine "Thomas" piece to go along with the generic wooden railway system Santa was bringing my 2 year old daughter for Christmas this year. I had watched her play with a train set in the play area at the toy store, and I noticed that she and other kids spent more time playing with this water tower than with any other accessory. She has been delighted with this piece since Christmas morning, and has invented several different pretend 'scenarios' in which the engines have to fill up with water or get cleaned up at the water tower. I was looking for one or two interest-catching but relatively inexpensive add-ons for our generic train set, and the water tower fits that description perfectly. Even though we've now added a few other fun pieces, the water tower is still her favorite part of the railway!

Teamson Espresso Round Table and Chairs Set -The Windsor Collection

Teamson Espresso Round Table and Chairs Set -The Windsor CollectionWe purchased this for our daughter but were displeased with multiple things once we opened it up:

1. The finish is not a stained espresso like the description says; rather, it is painted with very little sheen as shown in the picture.

2. The wooden screw covers do not stay in place well.

3. Some of the stickers leave residue that is difficult to remove, therefore leaving a mark that diminishes the overall appearance.

4. Some of the stickers peeled the paint off, which then exposed the raw wood of an entirely different color underneath.

This table is sturdy and our daughter loves sitting at it.However, I wish I would have paid for a better quality table.I'd like to send it back, but I'm not sure that the ordeal of taking it apart and shipping it back is worth it.

Farmhouse Table and 4 Chair Set

KidKraft Farmhouse Table and Chair SetI was a little nervous after I ordered this product. Because of the price, I was half expecting a balsa wood table and chairs that might get us through the next year or so. After receiving the package, I am exceptionally pleased with the quality. There is no doubt that this set will last a lifetime. The assembly was simple and relatively quick. The instructions and parts were labeled perfectly and left no doubts about what goes where. My only gripe is that, as shown in the picture, you can see the screw heads on the sides of each chair. However, I understand that wooden screw covers would be a choking hazard and let's face it, nobody likes a dead kid.

This table and chair set is awesome and very, very durable and well made! And KidKraft has excellent customer service...one of the parts didn't fit well and I called them for a new one and I had it in 3 days for free! They even said if it gets damaged and I ever need any new parts, to call them and they'd send it right away!

Buy Farmhouse Table and 4 Chair Set Now

I researched this set for months and finally purchased this for my 21 month old daughter last month once I noticed her "W sitting" which is unfortunately becoming common among the 18 month to 5 year range.Sitting this way prevents children from turning their body from side to side (trunk rotation) and crossing their midline to reach toys and objects may not seem like a big deal now but these are important skills for the developing child as more advanced motoric skills are dependent upon them.Children with hip dysplasia and other motoric issues should also avoid "W sitting" as doing so can aggravate these issues and in extreme cases cause hip dislocation.Try sitting this way yourself to play with your child and you will see (actually feel it's very uncomfortable!) what I mean.

I specifically looked into Jonti craft and Kidkraft for their classroom durability and developmental features for young children. I've had both brands in my Kindergarten classroom and they were great.

Anyhow now I have my daughter sit and stand at the table for various activities.I do have her stand more than sit at this point because her feet don't touch the floor yet with these chairs. When children engage in fine motor tasks their feet should be touching the floor for stability. The table is the perfect height for her and her 5 tear old brother enjoys it as well. The set went together in a flash with the use of my powerdrill (you can use a hex drill bit instead of the allen wrench provided much faster this way).Yes, some of the holes do not line up perfectly but with a powerdrill it is really not an issue.

I highly recommend this set and am actually looking into purchasing an extra table for the extra little ones who visit!.I really don't think you will be disappointed . . . as a tough-to-please-anal-retentive-nitpicker teacher andmom, take my word for it!

Its heavy and good quality, perfect for my 18 month old son to grow into since his feet don't touch the ground when he sits on the chairs. He came down christmas morning and sat down right as if he has had the table all along. I have purchased the nantucket kids table as a gift before and very satisfied with the purchase and quality. Friend also bought the same farm house table and chairs for her daughter but in color pecan and had no problems with purchase or quality. While assembling ours on Christmas eve, one of the chair back's rest was split as was the cross bar support beam. KidKraft responded to my email right away and told me to expect replacement parts in five to seven days. Since this is the third table purchased as a gift, I am not upset the chair is broken, it happens, and very satisfied on the level of customer service so far. Would purchase from them again! The Quality and service are way too good!

We found many of the same problems other reviewers mentioned: lousy-quality wood w/many imperfections that reduce its strength, poorly drilled holes that frequently didn't line up well during assembly, etc. That said, KidKraft Customer Service has been good about sending replacment parts, and we won't have to return the table, which our 22-month-old has enjoyed so far.It was reasonably priced and one of few sets that came w/4 chairs -but if you can afford a better table, I'd buy a different one.

KIDKRAFT Airport Express Train Set and Table

KIDKRAFT Airport Express Train Set and TableFirst, after searching for a train set and train table we picked this one--and got it for substantially less at rhymes with schmostco. My son LOVES trains--and I knew I wanted to get him a train table and set for his birthday.

Set up--I put the table together, my husband assembled the train set.It took quite a while for me to get the table together--some pieces were difficult to match up--specifically the drawers.

Some of the pieces of the train set require screwing pieces together. If you have a kid who plays hard, some pieces of the track will probably fall apart during play--for us, when our son plays, some of the raised areas come apart easily. The trees and the airplanes have pieces that come apart--my son is 2, and he gets very annoyed when this happens.

And yes--the box does specifically say not to get this for a 2 year old, but we did not put out the smaller parts of the set for that reason. We don't have a kid who puts every possible object in his mouth.Know your kid, and you'll know if this is good for your 2-3 year old.

Our son LOVES the set--it comes with a helicopter and airplanes along with the trains, and he is fascinated with all of it.The surface also has a smooth non-decorated side, which will come in handy when he outgrows or gets tired of the train aspect.

We purchased this for a great price from our local warehouse store. Assembly of the table/drawers took about 2 hours, and my husband and I assembled the trains and pieces together and it took us about 45 minutes.

This is a great table and comes with many fun and interesting pieces. For all you get for the price, it's a great deal.

Here's where the great deal ends... the table is poorly made. Bad enough that I am still unsure if we will return it for a refund.

Upon opening the box and trying to put it together, we found that the table top was peeling/warped along the edges.

Several of the screws were missing their heads and had a nail type of head instead of a screw head.

The train tracks that are curved have a plastic ball that fits into a wooden socket on the adjoining piece. These plastic balls are easily broken off and must be re-glued. Several of them broke within a few hours of gentle play.

Various pieces weren't manufactured correctly and didn't work. Example: a tree trunk wouldn't fit properly into the tree top, so the top would fall off because the slot was made too large to hold it in place.

The most glaring problem with this train table is the drawers. The drawers seem to be slightly undersized for the slot and they don't align properly. Ours have yet to fall out but they look terrible. I will upload a photo. Also, the drawers are not easy to slide open and shut.

One other thing worth mentioning is that the drawers are too shallow to hold many of the parts of the train set. They can hold small accessories and some of the smaller track pieces and vehicles but probably 1/2 the set pieces won't fit into the drawers.

A week ago, I sent a detailed email with photos and request for parts replacement to the manufacturer via their website, and have yet to hear from them.

My 4 year old loves trains and we wanted a place he could enjoy the wooden tracks. The table holds up ok but the drawers fall right off the plastic tracks almost everytime and within a couple of days one of the drawers fell apart. Not easy to return now that it is all assembeld. I wish i didnt buy this. My son however loves the new tracks and other parts. I would not recommend this product. I will have to redesign and spend more money to improve this poor quality product.

We got this for my almost 3 year old son. He loved waking up Christmas morning and finding this waiting for him. His cousins love playing with it when they visit, and the pieces are all light weight and easy to move around. Its not the highest quailty track or accessories, but for a 3 year old its perfect. Took my husband around 1.5 hours to put together then maybe another 30 minutes setting up the track and town :) Good for the price, but we will probably be investing in a better track and train set later on down the line.

We are very disappointed in the overall quality and design of this toy. Our grandson (age 4) loves to play with the wooden track train his mom got from IKEA for $10.We figured we would spoil him with this set.Unfortunately the quality and design fall far short of its flashy appearance. The wood tracks are so poorly made and the tracks' fit is so loose and sloppy that the groves don't line up and the cars "derail" constantly when pushing them along the track.

When you look at this with all the hills and big spiral track you assume that the cars will at least roll down the spiral trestle but no.The spiral tracks are made of plastic and the groves in the plastic tracks are too narrow, when combined with the radius of the cure, to even let the cars roll down; you have to push them down the spiral trestle track every inch of the way.My grandson doesn't like playing with it because the cars keep falling off the tracks. In short, this set looks great & does not work at all.

Also wanted to mention that COMPLETE assembly is required which took just over 5 hours.About the only thing you don't have to do is cut to boards or put the wheels on the cars but you have to assemble everything else!

We DO NOT recommend this set at all.Our advice, save $140 and go to IKEA and get the $10 train set better quality and it works.

Brass Chalk Holder Monogrammed

Brass Chalk Holder MonogrammedThis company will only engrave the initials on the "bottom" also known as the "lid" (the part that removes so you can insert the chalk.)However, any pool player with any knowledge knows better than to chalk through a hole the sides will scrape the ferrule, the tip will never be chalked properly, and the cube will wear down the middle instead of easily across the top.So we put the chalk in these things upside-down and remove the lid.It therefore makes no sense to have the lid engraved. This product will be a great item once the company figures out how to engrave the side rather than the lid.

Crayola Presto Dots to the Max

Crayola Presto Dots to the Max ()The recommended age on this Model Magic is 5 and up, which I think is accurate. My daughter is 3 1/2 and, while I knew she would love the characters pictured, I wasn't sure if she'd be able to create them. She couldn't. But that's OK... we had fun trying anyway, and she made her own creature without using the tools.

I found that the "dots" work as described-you press down on the clay with a tool, give a little twist, and it picks up a small piece that you can then press onto your figure. About half the time, it took two or three tries instead of one to pick it up, but it was still easy enough to do it. The kit leaves room for creativity, and the clay is fun to work with. It does have a consistency sort of like pulled marshmallows, but it doesn't leave sticky residue on your hands. The finished products can be set out to display or given to proud grandparents, aunts and uncles, etc.

BUT-here's the big negative.

On the bottom of the box is this warning: "Crayola Model Magic contains colorants which may stain."

Uh, yeah.

A small piece of clay got stuck to a stuffed animal, and despite how valiantly I tried to pick it out with my nails, or wash it out, it didn't work. I had to cut the fur off the stuffed animal to get it out. And my daughter also left a damp washcloth on top of a piece of clay. It stained and will not come out.

It's a big enough pain getting play dough out of carpets and socks and clothing; this is worse. This is a nightmare. So that's another reason why I strongly suggest either buying this only for older kids who can be trusted not to get it stuck in bad spots, or supervising VERY closely and keeping all fabric/stuffed toys/etc. away from the play table.

()Crayola Model Magic Presto Dots to the Max is a toy designed to stimulate the imagination and creativity. This toy includes claylike material and several different molds and other tools to create different creatures complete with eyes and dots, to make them look as silly as possible.

My girls love PlayDoh, so I was confident they would enjoy the Crayola Model Magic Presto Dots to the Max when it was introduced into my household just a short time ago. From our experience so far, my prediction has held truemy kids do like this toy. The claylike material is fluffier than PlayDoh and there is almost no smell. It molds easily and is less sticky than other, similar products and is thus a little easier to clean up. My kids like it because they like making things with molds and they enjoy the creative experience.

Creativity is certainly the most valuable aspect of Crayola Model Magic Presto Dots to the Max and there is no denying that this toy offers a good deal of entertainment value, but there are some drawbacks to this toy. First, there are too many pieces and they will likely get lost over time. Second, the material is difficult to separate. Once you touch one color to another, you will find that some of the material will be inseparable. But the worst item in the package is the rolling pin. Ordinary rolling pins work the way they do because the handles are situated on the sides, sticking out, so that the rolling surface of the pin touches the surface beneath itthe surface that needs to be rolled. The rolling pin included in this set has handles that don't stick outthey actually extend beyond the roller, above and below, perpendicular to the surface beneathsimilar to the wheels on a toy car. Because of this, you cannot roll the pin directly over the material. The handles themselves are what touches the surface beneathnot the roller. This is a major oversight on the part of the manufacturer.

Another small issue I have with this toy is that it requires too much attention to detail. Take a good look at the completed creatures on the package and you will know what I am talking about. The creatures are covered with the small dots and look very artistic. I realize that the packaging is intended, in part, to help sell the product but youngsters may get frustrated because it will take far too much effort to get the finished product to look like this. Older children will be able to mimic the creatures on the box, but younger kids will grow frustrated quickly.

Crayola makes many fun toys for kids and its Model Magic Presto Dots to the Max is an acceptable toy with some good reasons to buy it, but also some bad points that make it less worthy of purchasing. Since my kids like it and it does encourage creativity, I will go ahead and give it a modest recommendation. However, it is far from the perfect molding toy and it will annoy some parents and kids alike.

()Yes indeed, I'm of a mixed mind about this product and it all has to do with price. But before I get onto that, let me tell you what this product is and what you get.

First, this product is made out of a "non-toxic" plastic. In color it looks bright and cheerful like playdough, and in feel, it feels sort of like sticky marshmallows. There's not much of a smell.

The box comes with instructions for the creation of 6 critters as well as body parts, tools to make patterns, a roller, and a plasticized mat.The idea is that you pop together the bodies, and use the Model Magic to coat them and add arms and legs, eyes and whatnot. My children, of course, said pooh to that and played with the Model Magic like they would playdough.Daughter made a big cake, and son made a mushroom person (Toad) from Mario.

As far as playing with it, it's much like playdough except that the end results can be much more detailed.Honestly, my kids have made some absolutely adorable things with this product. My daughter made a 3-inch high girl for example, and it came out amazing. (It's now drying so it can join my collection of lumpy-but-brilliant fired-glazed dinosaurs and dragons and pinch-pots :) If you mix colors you can't unmix them. And after about 72-hours (or so the instructions say) the product will dry.I should note that I've got no idea at this point how durable these wonderful creations are after they dry.

MY THOUGHTS:::

OVERALL, this is a play item that I would Definitely buy for a birthday gift for a child who likes to make things. It's not a product I would buy for my own kids because it's just too darn expensive when compared to playdough.

Concerns: It's plastic and I don't care how non-toxic it is claimed to be, I wouldn't want my children eating it.Parents of toddlers and preschoolers and any other child likely to sample the Model Magic should be monitored.

I'm not thrilled that there is a chance this product can stain clothes. We have had no problems, but I would suggest you stay away from white shirts, at the least.

Star Rating Explanation:

This is a fun creative product that exercises those fine motor skills, and in that sense it's educational. And it's because of these attributes, and because it would make a nice birthday present, that I'm giving this Crayola product 4-Stars.

The negatives are present however. You have to monitor young children (in my opinion), and you have to use the plasticized mat because it's so sticky.

Again, this is a product I'd definitely buy for other children for special occassions, but for my own children, I much prefer playdough.

()This toy is similar to Play-Doh. In addition to the 'clay', it comes with plastic 'bodies' on to which you can mould the clay and build different characters. There are small tools of different shapes (circle, square, triangle, star etc) with which you can pick 'buttons' to decorate your character. The finished characters look nice and most of the tools work alright.

The clay given is not enough to complete all character moulds provided in the kit. You need to purchase additional clay

Some of the tools are messier to clean-up, for e.g the clay often gets stuck in the 'star' and big dot tool

The kids to need quite a bit of patience to complete these characters

()The photo of this product is deceiving. The tubs are large. There is as much, if not more, Presto material in each container as Play Doh includes in the standard cans. I love the containers. They are clear and are more like small bowls. It's easy to get the material in and out of the containers. The lids are secure yet easy to ues for little hands. Also included in the package is many molds and items to use to create artistic masterpieces with.

The Presto material is fluffier than Play Doh.It's lighter and more foamy. I personally think it's easier to work with than Play Doh. The colors are bright and inviting. My kids mixed colors and it took some effort but I was able to get the colors apart on most of the material.

The dot tools that came with the kit are pretty cool and fun to use. It's not necessary to use the dots to make things. You can use the material just as you do Play Doh.

I gave the kit to my 5yo son and he had a blast. At first he did use the dots. He really like the rolling pin.My 3yo like it as well.

I think the price point is decent, especially since you get six tubs of material AND two packages of molding accessories.

My favorite part is no offensive odor!!!There's not crumbs of doh laying around.I do prefer Crayola Presto Dots to Play Doh and this will be what I buy in the future.
