Chicco Talking Garden Activity Table

Chicco Talking Garden Activity TableWe bought this toy for our 9months old daughter and she loves it. The music is great. But, the English version voice is very annoying and creepy. It will be so much better to use the children voice or something sweet voice. Not the creepy man's voice.

Anyone who is bilingual will appreciate knowing in advance that this toy does not teach proper Spanish. The alphabet is missing two Spanish letters, Ch and LL.It also pronounces the letter V as UV and W as UVV.

Also, the English spoken by the male voice calls a ladybug a "ladybuggED."

It is really strange. And, as previous reviewers have mentioned, the male voice is creepy. When the caterpillar says a poem about being a garden caterpillar, it sends chills down my spine. It sounds like the guy is high on drugs.

Finally, the flower does not stay attached. My daughter pulled up and it immediately came apart.I believe it is made this way.It will get lost any day now.

I will be returning this to the store.

Two reasons made me returned this product:

1. The man's voice is very annoying. How hard it is to record a soft clear voice that does not pronounce "a bug" like "a bud" and "she" like "shu"?

2. The language selection buttons are on the top of the table and very noticeable. It's very easy for a baby to find them and switch. I'd love to let me child study a second language, but not until she can speak her ABCs in one language. I don't want my child to be confused when she just started learning her first words. The language selection should be the parents' choice, not the child's! Those buttons should be put under the table.

I don't know about the durability since I've returned it, so I gave it a neutral rating.

When my little gril started crawling and pulling up, I knew we were going to need an activity table.

When I started looking, I was pretty dissapointed with most of the options. Then, I found the Chicco Talking Garden Activity Table.

Pros:

The table has two modes: Music and ABCs. With the music option turned on, the buttons and activites prompt some fun musical tunes ranging from a singing Garden Caterpillar to a hive of chanting bees. With ABC mode turned on the responses from the table are more educational and involve colors, shapes, textures, the alphabet and numbers (in addition to some music still).

Multiple responses: Each button has multpile distinct responses. Pushing a button will yield one of 3 or 4 possible responses that are unique to that button.

Long reponses: Responses from the table range from short (one or two words) to up to 30 or seconds.

Multiple button "types": Not everything is a traditional push button. There is a slidy caterpillar, a watering can that pops up a flower when it is pressed, three large shape buttons in the center, a butterfly that is actually two buttons that change depending on how you have the wing "positioned", a bee hive with a ring of slidy bees, and a rolly ball with a mommy snail and a baby snail on it. In addition some of the buttons have different textures. So it is not just a table full of buttons for baby to spam.

Cons:

Language buttons too easy to access: Ok the spanish and english language options are buttons that are right on the top of the table where the baby can play with them and switch the language of the table. Repeatedly. It is bad enough that they are on the top, but they also happen to be the only buttons that light up AND they always play this cute little diddy when pressed... so they get pressed often. Not to mention, these buttons are large and look out of place with the rest of the garden theme. This is the primary reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5.

ONE removeable part: Parts that come off are just a bad idea on a toy like this. The little flower that grows in the garden pops up and off when the watering can is pushed enough. I have removed the flower and put it away for now. I will put it back when my daughter can appreciate it more (she is only 10 months now).

My grandson who is 8 mo. old, loves things that make sounds and music which he can manipulate. He also loves to stand, so I felt this would be the best of both worlds. The idea is great, but the toy has 3 flaws.1.It can tip over very easily, which it did the first time he used it and I was not close enough to put some weight on the top.Not a problem since I am never more then six inches away from him when he plays at my house.2. It has this flower that fell off the first time he pulled on it. 3.It lasted exactly 3 days until the voice and music stopped working, and created this horrible loud buzzing sound which scared him to death.I returned this item and will now look around for the same sort of toy that is made to last a little longer.
