This is the kind of game you would keep on your coffee table to intrigue guests, but I love it in the classroom!For early finishers, this is the perfect activity to be done alone.The player usesproblem solving skills to "solve" this puzzle. My students are hooked!Many of my students in the past few years have been able to complete this game...I have not, but I keep trying!

Wood Solitaire with Marbles

This is a very old and quite clever little game. There are no bright colors and whistles and bells just a simple wooden board and 33 shiny pale blue marbles. The object of the game is to remove the marbles by jumping them with the final goal of leaving one marble in the center of the board. The placement of the final marble in the center of the board denotes a "perfect" game. Looks are deceiving this is no child's game. I have played this puzzle about thirty times and have two perfect games to my credit. The interesting point is that I can't say with any certainty exactly how I arrived at my placement of a solitairy marble in the center of the board. Therein lies the hook of this game which I highly recommend.
