I am very sorry to write this negative review, but wish someone had, before I bought this globe.I have one, a Replogle 12" black background world globe, which I bought at an Antiques store.I LOVE it.I wanted this one, which appears to be identical (except for updating, of course) and is illuminated.So far, so good. However, much to my dismay, this globe does not 'tilt' on it's axis!Who wants a world globe that you can't tip and tilt and explore?I don't.For $85.00 Ithink they should include the extra 'tilt' bar!If not, I think they should state that in the description.I am editing this review because I don't want to be too harsh on the seller. He explained, (after a bad rating) why the globe does not have the 'rotating' function. It was MY mistake, in not doing more 'research' on Illuminated globes, I guess, but I still feel it should be mentioned in the description; especially given the cost of return shipping, and restocking fee. As the seller admitted, not everyone knows all about Globes, as he does. This Globe barely left the box before I saw my mistake; and it cost me apx. $30.that's a pricey mistake.

So, if you don't know about this, do some research!

On the shelf above my desk hooked up to a foot switch I seven illuminated globes. Two illuminated constellation globes, Uncle Milton's "Moon in my room" with the guts ripped out and replaced with mini LEDs hanging on the wall, a medium sized antique-look globe, a five-inch blue physical relief globe, and now this globe. All but the five inch models run on LEDs so they pull under 10 watts total by the way. To modify this one for LED I had to find the smallest LED I could and shave a tiny bit off the edges of the bottom with a pocketknife by the way, but I'm trying really hard to stay on Al Gore's good graces and LEDs use less than half the juice of even CFLs.

This globe is the nicest of my collection by far, and the most unique globe I've ever seen. Almost the size of a beach ball, so there's room for all kinds of details on the globe, including stuff like prevailing ocean currents. It even comes with a booklet explaining longitude and latitude and such. Looks great in the dark. Of my three full sized illuminated globes (three are only five inches, the other two about eight inches), none of them have a tilt feature. They're positioned on the earth's standard axis, but no tilt and I think the wiring running through the base would preclude that option, so looking over what's currently the only other review I figured I'd add in yet another two cents on the point.

Looking over my reviews, someone left a comment describing the globe they received as paper that doesn't match evenly at the equator. Uneven quality or some other explanation springs to mind as an explanation, but looking at my globe closely it's unusual that the equator isn't covered by a band or tape layer like my other globes, though from any distance the slight gap looks just like an equatorial line. Looking over the whole globe closely my two printed hemispheres do meet precisely on each side of the equator.

I just recieved my orion globe.Topnotch.The details on the globe of each country,ocean,different areas of the ocean,latitude,longitude,and the degrees on the globe are visible.The globe is also beautiful and lights up.This product cost me 90.00 not to mention the shipping but it was worth it.I am happy with it.They also packed it in very securley.

the crease where the 2 hemispheres meet is very noticeable, at least on mine. Subtract 1 star for it. Otherwise, satisfied.

I ordered this illuminate globe from Amazon.com and received it today. I really wanted to like this globe it was to be an integral part of my man cave décor.Unfortunately it is a disappointment and I am at a loss as to why it has so many positive reviews.It simply looks cheap.

Problem one:

The photo on Amazon inexplicably does not show this, but the power cord for the light in this globe does not come discretely out of the base of the globe, where it could be hidden by positioning.Instead it comes out of the bottom of the "C" support that suspends the globe above the base.This means that the power cord, no matter how you place the globe on your desk, will dangle several inches for all to see. Tacky. The illustration on Amazon has been 'doctored' to hide this.

Problem two:

the equatorial dividing line where the two hemispheres of the globe are joined, is very prominent when the globe is lit from the interior light.This simply looks like a seam that has not been joined in a craftsman like fashion.

There are also several minor blemishes which I could have lived with,but my main complaint is that this productis that it is not worth the asking price and I feel like I have been cheated.
