U-Build Monopoly

Got this to my son, he really liked the idea of building your own Monopoly board. However, it seemed to be more complicated than we were expecting.

The pieces don't always stay together and the money is annoying, I much prefer the money system of the original monopoly game.

It is still fun to play but a bit more complicated than we wanted.

There is definately a fun new feeling about this version.It is more complicated than I expected it to be but my family is loving it.

The options to make the track however you want is what drew me to this version.I own several versions of monopoly (the mega edition is still my all time favorite) and this was another great piece to my collection.

I find this version refreshing because it is not the same version of monopoly with different names on the properties. It has fun new rules and the chance cards are like no other chance cards we have seen before.It has many fun elements but these also make learning it a bit slow.With time, I know this will become even more fun because we won't have to spend so much time figuring out/remembering every rule.

I do like that you can put your own game together. It is a fun game but its very complicated if your used to the old Monopoly game. The street names are different. The money is complicated and different. The game play is different in some ways. If the game was more than $6 I would not have bought it after playing it now. I do think I got my money's worth but then again I only paid $2 for it.

In this game you can build your Monopoly board nearly any way you want which allows a lot more creativity and randomization of results. For those who like to color inside the lines there are templates to follow. More than just the board setup, the game allows for some interesting adjustments along the way such as hazards that devalue residential propoerty or bonuses that protect land value.

Like other Monopoly games, this is a great way to get the kids to learn about making change and the concept of investment.

Warning... kids need to be near 3rd-4th grade math level. Rents and purchases are usually done as $3M or $2.4M or $480k. So, they need to be able to understand $.4M means $400k, etc..

My wife and I bought this last week and have already played it four times (my wife's eight months pregnant, so we're not going out much)! We've enjoyed it. There are a few new complications if you're used to the old Monopoly, but we haven't found them too hard to get used to, and some of them are quite good fun. I guess that might make it a little difficult for younger children, but then it's aimed at children aged 8 and up, and I think 8 year-olds should be able to handle it. It's also good for their maths.

One small problem is that the pieces aren't as well designed as they might be, so they can come undone (or not lie completely flat) during the game, which is a little irritating. We've also found that some of the new additions can make the game a little unsatisfying for two players. With the new skyscrapers and Monopoly tower, the balance of power can shift to one player very quickly indeed, and then it's just a matter of that player accruing wealth till the other player gives in or goes bankrupt. Of course, this also means that the games are a lot quicker than in the old version, which could be seen as an advantage! Indeed, I think they've done a good job of making the games shorter. It just means that, if you only have two players, you may want to adjust the rules slightly so it's not quite so unbalanced. We also thought that, although the hazards are a good idea that may work with more players, they're just slightly irritating with two.

Overall, this is a very good game, but probably better for groups of more than two players! For six players, I imagine it would be a very different game (and the hazards might work really well).
