Redneck Life Board Game

Redneck Life is the funniest board game that I have ever played.I picked it up at GenCon after getting a review from the helpful booth staff, and couldn't be more pleased with my purchase.Tonight I finally got to play it, twice as a matter of fact.I can say without a doubt that I will be playing it quite often.In fact, I plan on introducing it to my entire family over Labor Day weekend.

Starting off you roll for your redneck name (there is an expansion that I don't have yet, but hope to have soon that offers more options) and then you begin to move your pieces around the board.The play style is similar to Monopoly, but it has a hint of the old MAD magazine board game.As you progress you get an education level, a job, get married, have kids, get divorced, purchase a house, and buy several cars.There's an interesting mechanic where your car holds only so many children, and if you exceed that limit you have to add more cars.All the while you are accruing debt, because the payday spaces are few and far between and each child deducts money from your paycheck.Different mishaps can happen that make you lose your teeth, including not having the money at the end of the game to pay off your debt.The player with the most teeth at the end of the game wins.

The pieces are fine (they recommend using beer bottle caps instead of the pawns provided) and the board is laid out with lots of spaces to land, yet it is still readable.I rated four stars for the durability as I am used to the quality of German board games.I also gave four stars for education as it really does a good job of showing what could happen if you don't graduate high school.All in all I would recommend this game to anyone who plays many different types of games and needs something light to play before or after a hard core gaming session.Come to think of it, I would recommend this game to just about anyone that has a sense of humor and likes to play board games.You'll be singing "You can be a loser at Redneck Life" in no time if you pick it up.

this is probably the funniest game i have ever played. When i first played it at a convention, myself and the guys that were playing with me each bought a copy because we laughed so hard we nearly wet ourselves. from cards like judge an actual hog calling contest between other players to doing a springer show and getting red-headed step kids named "darryl" it is a great time for the whole family.

This game is really funny, even just with 2 players.

You go around the board and stop at various "stages", similar to regular Life. However, you end up with jobs like a gas station manager or Mullet Barber. Along the way to the end of the game you get married, get divorced and get married yet again and roll to see how many step children you get. There are also "Go Redneckin" cards that can either help or hinder your progress. The player with the most teeth at the end of the game wins.

I've played this with 2-6 players and every time it's hilarious! It's a great time and demanded every game night.

I bought this for my sons 16th birthday as a gag gift.

Have one person read all the instructions first it will help the game go faster. A very interesting and fun game... It really involves everyone playing. It will rarely be the same game twice since their is so much variety in the game. Better than monopoloy or the game of life because this game will be done in about an hour thats with 4 people playing.

Some cards would be inappropriate for small children but we just took those out so no big deal. I would say that it would be for those 14 and older. Fun.

U-Build Monopoly

Got this to my son, he really liked the idea of building your own Monopoly board. However, it seemed to be more complicated than we were expecting.

The pieces don't always stay together and the money is annoying, I much prefer the money system of the original monopoly game.

It is still fun to play but a bit more complicated than we wanted.

There is definately a fun new feeling about this version.It is more complicated than I expected it to be but my family is loving it.

The options to make the track however you want is what drew me to this version.I own several versions of monopoly (the mega edition is still my all time favorite) and this was another great piece to my collection.

I find this version refreshing because it is not the same version of monopoly with different names on the properties. It has fun new rules and the chance cards are like no other chance cards we have seen before.It has many fun elements but these also make learning it a bit slow.With time, I know this will become even more fun because we won't have to spend so much time figuring out/remembering every rule.

I do like that you can put your own game together. It is a fun game but its very complicated if your used to the old Monopoly game. The street names are different. The money is complicated and different. The game play is different in some ways. If the game was more than $6 I would not have bought it after playing it now. I do think I got my money's worth but then again I only paid $2 for it.

In this game you can build your Monopoly board nearly any way you want which allows a lot more creativity and randomization of results. For those who like to color inside the lines there are templates to follow. More than just the board setup, the game allows for some interesting adjustments along the way such as hazards that devalue residential propoerty or bonuses that protect land value.

Like other Monopoly games, this is a great way to get the kids to learn about making change and the concept of investment.

Warning... kids need to be near 3rd-4th grade math level. Rents and purchases are usually done as $3M or $2.4M or $480k. So, they need to be able to understand $.4M means $400k, etc..

My wife and I bought this last week and have already played it four times (my wife's eight months pregnant, so we're not going out much)! We've enjoyed it. There are a few new complications if you're used to the old Monopoly, but we haven't found them too hard to get used to, and some of them are quite good fun. I guess that might make it a little difficult for younger children, but then it's aimed at children aged 8 and up, and I think 8 year-olds should be able to handle it. It's also good for their maths.

One small problem is that the pieces aren't as well designed as they might be, so they can come undone (or not lie completely flat) during the game, which is a little irritating. We've also found that some of the new additions can make the game a little unsatisfying for two players. With the new skyscrapers and Monopoly tower, the balance of power can shift to one player very quickly indeed, and then it's just a matter of that player accruing wealth till the other player gives in or goes bankrupt. Of course, this also means that the games are a lot quicker than in the old version, which could be seen as an advantage! Indeed, I think they've done a good job of making the games shorter. It just means that, if you only have two players, you may want to adjust the rules slightly so it's not quite so unbalanced. We also thought that, although the hazards are a good idea that may work with more players, they're just slightly irritating with two.

Overall, this is a very good game, but probably better for groups of more than two players! For six players, I imagine it would be a very different game (and the hazards might work really well).

Back in Sept 2012 my then 2 yr old son was hospitalized with Kawasaki disease. They had these in the gift shop. He hasn't put it down since. He has to sleep with "cute bear" and his blankie which he named " gucky"I don't know what I will do when and if cute bear ever bites the dust. He is no longer soft and fluffy. But is very well loved.

This bear is way smaller than I had imagined.I was expecting it to be small but maybe the size of a grapefruit.They are the size of a childs fist and the body is not very fluffy.It looks like a bear that would come with a baby doll.Not worth the price even if it is a Gund.

Deluxe Turntable Scrabble

We have the standard Scrabble set. But when I played with an old (1980s?) Deluxe Edition Scrabble with raised grids and swivel board, I immediately ordered a Deluxe Edition for myself. But I am greatly disappointed by this new Deluxe Edition.

This item in general is of cheaper make than the older Deluxe Edition. The grids are shallow, so the tiles are not securely anchored in each slot--a major reason for my purchase. The turntable as well as the tile holders are flimsy, made of cheap plastic. (If you use the pedestal for the turntable, your board will rise about 4 to 5 inches above your table!) For [money amount], one'd think that MB would be able to maintain the quality of this classic game, if not improving upon the older version.

That being said, this version still will perform better than the standard edition. So if you want a brand new Scrabble game, this is definitely the one to get. And, if you play on the floor a lot, maybe you actually will like the high-platform game board. On the other hand, if you want a Deluxe Edition because an older set impressed you at some point, this is NOT the one.

One can get the older Deluxe Edition on eBay.

I purchased this game believing it was very similar if not the same as the 80's version; it is not even close... I then returned the game rather than deal with its inferior quality...I later wrote the following to the manufactures.

"I purchased a Deluxe Scrabble game and later returned it when i found the tiles tend to slide along the playing board as the grid is not raised high enough to prevent this from occuring.Additionally the board is much harder to read than the previous deluxe version as the newer editions writing seems dull when compared to the older version.Basicly the operation, look and feel of the new deluxe game seems significantly lower in quality.What year did you start producing these newer (cheaper) versions of the deluxe game?I would like to find an older one perhaps on the used market because this one is just way too cheap.Too bad product development had to change what was once a very good product.Incidently, I noticed this evening that I am not the only person who has complained in writing. The Amazon.com reviews of this game overwhelmingly portray the same story; wish i had read them before i made the purchase.Hopefully someone will recognize this at MB/Hasbro and return the game to its older form or sell the rights to another manufacturer with a greater comitment to product quality..."

Within 6 months of purchase, the letter distribution strips have become unreadable.The wood tiles are of poor quality, very rough, and the paint on the letters is almost gone on many of the tiles.We have therefore retrieved the tiles from our older "non-deluxe" edition in order to be able to play with readable tiles which feel smooth to the touch.This is extremely disappointing since we paid top dollar for the "best" that Parker Bros. offers in this game.We play in tournaments and are members of the National Scrabble Association, so we expected much better quality.

It's embarassing that the flagship Scrabble product in the US has been cheapened so much.

Pros:

* turntable feels better than ever

* tiles & racks are decent

Cons:

* board is paper-textured grid prone to getting dirty (permanently)

* printing on board is dull and difficult to read in lower light conditions

* tiles do not stay put

* board surface feels flimsy and cheap

I've owned a Selchow & Righter deluxe board for over 25 years, and it is nearly in mint condition after more than 1000 games played.With it's brightly printed and easy to read special squares sealed beneath the hard plastic grid which firmly anchors the tiles in place, it simply puts the latest cheap product from MB to shame (which I've used at my local Scrabble club).

If at all possible, pick up an old turntable edition at a garage sale -you'll be happier, it will last far longer, and it will cost less.And if you play frequently, buy a set of Protiles (or some similar after market tile set).

Like many others here, I couldn't be more enthusiastic about the game of scrabble, but this product is dreck. The primary reason to get the deluxe version is the board, which has slots to hold the tiles in place, and a rotating base, so each player can see the board right-side up during their turn. Previous deluxe versions, including the 50th anniversary version, had boards covered with sturdy, clear, molded hard plastic. Instead, this one is some sort of pressed soft plastic abomination; it looks and feels cheap, but worst of all, it barely holds the tiles in place. On first play, my partner and I were constantly knocking tiles out of place, which simply does not happen on the earlier, clearly superior boards. Hasbro should be ashamed, diminishing the quality of this classic to eek out a few extra pennies a game. Why can't corporations leave good products alone?

If you are looking for something truly deluxe, search ebay for the 50th anniversary version or earlier deluxe versions and forget this new one.

I bought these to use for placing over some of my drawings to give them special effects like using the light blue to give the impression the scene was under water.These have a shiny side and a duller side, so they were perfect for my needs.

I began my quest for the perfect colored paper because I figured it would be easier for my very young son to color on a stiffer paper. I first tried this Tru-Ray Sulphite Construction Paper. It is actually decent paper with the white actually looking like white. The paper quality is also better and smoother than many cheaper brands of construction paper. I should mention that it is 9x12 paper and so a little larger than "standard". Definitely not a minus, but it is something to take note of.

Unfortunately, I decided that I would prefer something a little more stiff than its 76lb weight (personal decision and definitely nothing against the Tru-Ray paper) and so have since tried the Wausau Exact Index Cardstock , 110 lb, 8.5 x 11 Inches, 5 Color Pastel Assortment, 250 Sheets (48990). This Wausau 110lb was my second attempt and I have found a winner. This paper is as thick as a thin, store-bought card. I think the colors are also less bright and more rich than they seem in the Amazon image (which is a plus to me). The quality is also excellent with the paper being very smooth (even smoother than the Tru-Ray).

If you are looking for nice construction paper I recommend this Tru-Ray. If, like me, you are looking for something a little thicker then I would definitely recommend looking up the Wausau cardstock.

Well, it's construction paper for sure. Quality seems good, colors are bright. What else is there to say? It does seem fairly smooth compared to some brands I've used in the past. Would probably buy again.

TDC Games USA Shaped Puzzle Roadtrip America Puzzle

This puzzle was really fun to put together.It was frustrating for my 8 year old but my 11 year old really enjoyed it.What makes this puzzle challenging (besides being 1000 pieces) is that the edges are not straight.It follows the outline of the United States.Also, the pieces aren't all a standard shape.Some are pretty odd.I think it was very educational too.When putting it together, my kids saw where all of the states go, which state is next to that state and also a little about what each state is famous for.The puzzle is pretty durable...the pieces aren't real thin.I loved it!

The puzzle will be a great tool for my 12 year old British grandson to become familiar with the Unites States geography.

Panzer Korps is not new but is extremely well done and adaptable to any scale with comprehensive tables that can keep the game simple or more complex depending on your interest. The scale of the system is so rarely seen usually reserved for expensive PC games. I have enjoyed it and continue to use it to build new scenarios.

Mega Bloks Thomas' Mountain Adventure Playset

this product actually has very little flexibility in design-it doesn't allow for much free form building bec the pieces can only connect and be supported in very specific ways. the instructions are ultra specific. my husband (an engineer) took 2 hours to build this. and my 3 1/2 year old just got so frustrated bec every time he went to play with it, it fell apart and we needed my husband to rebuild it. not a fun toy. wish i had read the reviews before i bought this. the toys r us site has almost 100 2 star reviews.

This is my grandson's new favorite toy. I think it has gotten a bum rap from some of the other reviews. Yes, it is more complicated to assemble than other mega block or duplo sets but for some kids that is a great thing. My grandson loves the challenge. We helped him set it up according to directions the first time. Now he puts it together and uses it as a basis to build an entire play world. It works with all the duplos he already has and is more entertaining for him after he builds it. He loves just about anything Thomas and already had some Thomas duplos but after assembling them there wasn't much else to do with them. Mega block plastic is not as heavy as Duplos but still holds up well to rough toddler play and they don't seem to come apart any easier than his Duplos. Some might think this set is too complex for this age level but for some kids it is just the challenge they need.

My son received this for his 4th birthday and it entertains him for hours! Other reviews talk about their kids being bored or over it since it takes so long to build, but I had a blast putting it together with him. It might help that he's been a train fanatic since he was a little over a year old. You just have to know what toys to pick for your kids. Just because it's a "toy", doesn't mean they'll like it. It also gives your child a chance to be creative and makes them use their brain a little more. Sit down and show your child how to use it and there will be endless hours of play.

Also, I LOVE that you can store it under your childs bed like a plastic tote. I recommend to the die hard train fans!

HOrrible product!Its very difficult to put together because it falls apart even as you the adult are putting it together.The reason is that the blocks are all a lose fit.All this toy did is frustrate me.When I finally was able to put decent set together, it fell apart while my son was playing with it.I felt so angry because my son was very excited about this.Do not buy!

My 2 and a half year old loves this. We've been gradually "collecting" the sets The Carnival, some other small one, a then finally this big thing. Since the first set, he's been playing with the Thomas megablocks all the time for about a year now. This particular set, combined with the others, lets us build and re-build all kinds of configurations. We put together the "original design" using very easy instructions once, after that the thing got a life of its own, and have been constantly changing. Yes, an adult is needed to put together some stuff. But our son loves to participate, and design his own ideas yes, a 2-year old ideas, but he means those. He builds fire-houses, and sheds, and construction sites, and you name it. Very fun toy, lots of possibilities for thinking outside the box. I can see us playing with it for a couple more years, unless it falls apart from constant use.

Maybe now sturdy much when put together, but we don't quite follow the instructions anymore, and hook things up as we see them fit. We did not think it was not sturdy in it's original form, when we got it all together and played.

Build-demolish-build again. Not boring. All the sets we have are used together (look at the photos) to create monster-sites. If your kid loves to build, this is a great toy.

I recommend this or similar large set, and some additional small sets that will allow the "flexibility" in designing unusual models.

We bought this for our Wedding cake, the assemble yourself aspect was wonderful, the bride had 3 different hair colors (blonde, brown, black) and 3 flower colors (red, white, pink).I opted to make the Lego bride's veil out of my veil material, although tulle is included.

LEGO X-Large Gray Baseplate (628)

Yes, it's a grey 15" square Lego plate.But I seem to remember the "baseplates" being the same thinkness as a regular Lego piece....the base plate is a thin (1/16"?), flexible Lego baseplate that will allow you to build really big stuff, but it's tough to use on the "living room carpet" because it is so thin it flexes into the carpet when you try to press a "house" onto it.The result is that either only one corner of the house sticks, or it sticks fine, but all the other structures you've put on, flex off.

Anyway, it's a vital item in any kid's (or adult's) Lego set....

We ordered several and glued them to a plywood table.My two kids (boy, 9; girl,7)have built an entire lego city on it.There is no limit to the creativity.I HIGHLY recommend.

Without a baseplate, the world of Lego creativity is rather limited.Building with Legos sans baseplate is like building a house without pouring a foundation.

Sadly, these baseplates are thin and flexible, so you won't likely break it if you drop it, but you also aren't likely to get too far if you try to build that skyscraper on a shag carpet.I bought one of these for each of my boys and we'll either use them on the dining room table or use a hard surface over the carpet, or glue the baseplate to a thin piece of plywood.

Finally, you can get these at toy stores for about ten dollars, but for some reason I've seen these priced at two or three times that from various on line businesses.Shop around because it isn't necessary to pay much over ten bucks for these things.

The big board is bigger than you'd think when you actually see it.Only complaint is how flimsy it is.It's also a little expensive but I haven't found it cheap anywhere.

Dynamo/Tornado Sport Foosball Table

Great product. This is a pub-quality foosball table that is affordable for a household. The seller was great. All parts were present and assembly wasn't too bad. The hardest part is getting the rods thru the players on the poles.

I used to play foosball back in the 70's on Tornado tables. I am now 52 and thought what a way to enjoy activities with the family now that the kids are older. This table is exactly like the ones I used to play on. the vendor gave me a heads up on the ETA, and had me check out everything before I excepted from the currier. Everything was perfect and installation was a breeze. Advise, when putting the men on the bars they give you a block to help old the man in place while hammering a pin through the man and bar. Get another 2X4 block and put the legs on that block, then take the block they give you and force under the head. This will assure the hole in the man and the bar stay aligned while you hammer the pin. Fantastic table and for the price an unbelievable deal.
