HeroClix Star Trek Tactics Game Starter Set

This has been a long-time coming! Finally, a table-top starship combat game that is easy-to-learn, but not so easy that the gameplay suffers (like a recent collectable WARS amongst the STAR(s) game that comes to mind).

The models are quite nice. They are relatively sturdy and well-painted (and I don't mean just "for a factory-painted model"). Some will complain about some of the ships being out of scale, but if you consider that the model represents the approximate location of the vessel and that true scale would make some of the models impossibly small or impossibly large, this can easily be forgiven, overlooked, or forgotten in the glee of playing with little plastic starships.

The rules are the same as Heroclix rules, which makes this game EVEN EASIER to pick up if you've played Heroclix before. Some have scoffed at this compatibility with quips such as "Superman would never fight the Enterprise!", but I think they're missing the point. The rules are the same for EASE and SIMPLICITY, probably not as much for compatibility's sake. But, I suppose if you wanted Superman to fight a miniaturized U.S.S. Reliant, who could stop you? Let's see Khan fight his way out of that one.

In conclusion, although I am not a big fan of collectible games of ANY kind, I will no doubt pour significant resources into this game.

I picked this up and got exactly what I meant to: some mostly good miniatures.The Clix dial on the Bortas barely works, and the Enterprise is, to be blunt, a terrible miniature; the sculpt and the paint job both may be the worst in the entire line.(One of the boosters I also purchased turned out to be the Reliant, and these two should have similar hull details, but I found it interesting that the Reliant has phaser emitters painted and sculpted where the Enterprise does not...)

I tried out a couple of games, mixing the starter ships and some boosters, and found that the Heroclix system makes for a rather bad joke when it comes to playing a starship combat game.However, as that was only a secondary concern, I'm not too worried.The miniatures are mostly good (again, the Enterprise is an exception, and photos suggest that the Excelsior isn't great, either), and work well to support an expanded edition of the old Fasa Star Trek Tactical Starship Combat Simulator.At most, the Rhode Island and the Bortas might benefit from a quick (and light) wash, but otherwise, they look like professional quality minis; and the Rotarran is just gorgeous, as is.

If you're looking for a good starship game, look up Star Fleet Battles, A Call to Arms, or the out-of-print Fasa game(which still has a lot of unofficial fan support online), but consider these minis, as there are few better lines available.The plastic on the minis is nice and hard, so as to preserve find detail with good, sharp edges, and minimize the bends and other warps found on the softer versions put out a few years back by Micro Machines.While you're at it, if you like Heroclix, or you want a quick, not terribly accurate game that just give you an excuse to play with your toy starships, you may even like the included ruleset.From what I can tell, there are a lot of fans of Heroclix out there, so if the system grabs you, have fun.

For serious gamers:

1. Good, hard plastic, highly detailed and pre-painted starship minis; some lack detail on the underside, but you rarely see that part, anyway.(Could be a bummer, though, if they ever get around to Romulans...)

2. Maps are pretty, but the scale is unworkable.The wreckage on the Wolf 359 map isn't even to scale with itself, though I guess you could just treat it as artistic renders representing areas of debris and high radiation...The DS9 map is just a travesty; again, pretty, but the scale is a joke.The station is 22 inches across, roughly, which would make any ships moving around the map fit better with fighter combat of Star Wars than with Star Trek.(Really, could one fly the Enterprise-E around through the docking arms of the station and maneuver for combat?On top of that, could a Vorcha-class attack cruiser fit, doing the same thing, with two or three other ships? And that's just assuming a 200-300 pt. match.There's plenty of room to squeeze a lot more ships onto the map, if you really wanted to...)

3. Clix bases are a bit too big for standard hex maps; be prepared to either make due with not being able to see the hex a ship occupies, or to rebase the entire lot of ships you might choose to get.(Of course, as miniatures make close range combat a challenge anyway, this may not prove too much of an issue, and the bases provide handy labelling for your ships; instead of talking about D7-A, you can refer to it as the IKS Klothos, and the base will clearly define what ship you're talking about.)

4. The included dice, at least in my starter, weren't terribly well-balanced.They had an odd penchant for rolling doubles.So, move them to your Monopoly game set, and, if you're using d6s for whatever you play with these minis, get some good, high quality dice from Chessex or some such company.

But, there you have it; the review of a gamer who only bought this for the minis; but, hey, when some of the Star Trek-style minis on the market average $7-$15 in today's market, unpainted, who could complain about spending $20 for 4 pre-painted ships?

All in all, you mileage may vary, but I'm happy with the purchase, even though I think they could have done several things differently.

I love the fact that a Star Trek miniatures game has finally been made with simple rules and easily attainable prepainted figures.The maps included in the pack are outstanding, I especially like the Wolf 359 map and the Deep Space Nine map.

The figures have a great paint job (especially the Klingon ships) and great detail.

The only figure I have a problem with is the Enterprise.5 minutes after opening the package I went to put the figures on display, when the Right Nacelle (engine) of the Enterprise just fell off.I really don't like the mold they used for it.They could of made the nacelles one peice that glues to the body instead of each nacelle gluing idnividually (this is a weaker design).

So If you buy this set, just watch out for the fragile Enterprise engines.Now I have to get the Rare Reliant so I have a reason for the Enterprise missing a Nacelle when I play it.

My husband and I bought this product for our son last Christmas. It has been a hit ever since. When his friends come over they stay at the table. It's compact, which makes for easy, out of the way storage. It's light weight, which makes it easy for my 8 year old to handle. Set up is a snap. Even completely set up it's still not a room hog. It's kept my son competitive and into games, but off the computer/video games as much versus if we didn't have it. We're able to set it up outside as well so the boys can "go to town" with their signature moves and tricks. It's been a great tool to get our family together for some hearty laughter and good times.

I bought this for my husband for Father's Day to be used on our screened porch. Unfortunately, he doesn't like it as much as I do as he likes the bigger tables but we just didn't have the room for a standard table. This table doesn't take up much room and the surface it MUCH nicer than a typical ping pong table. It is actually ATTRACTIVE. It is very glossy with a mottled green and tan design. It goes perfectly with our decor (tan tile with white porch). We have a beautiful new screened porch and I really wasn't too thrilled with the idea of junking up my new patio with a huge piece of ugly sports equipment. This is just the right size and fun to play on. I think my hubby with get used to the small size given some time. I think he is just frustrated because I can still beat him no matter what size table we have! LOL!

The very few complaints I had with this product are enormously offset by the many satisfactions. Yes, the small size of the table makes playing somewhat difficult, but it's ideal for kids 5 and under. It came on time and was packed extremely well. The shipping carton had obviously taken some severe hits during transit, but the table was packed in styrofoam and was unblemished. It was extremely easy to put together, and all hardware was packaged securely. Highly recommended.

The board isn't super high quality, but it does the trick. You can play cribbage on it and it doesn't cost a whole lot. Exactly what I was after. Plastic pegs store in a compartment under the board, which sometimes opens up unexpectedly. But overall nothing to complain about.

Acquire is one of the most incredible Money-Hotel/Corporation games to be invented!Fast paced, full of surprises!Mergers, takeovers and upsets.NO two games are ever alike and like the stock exchange, you don't know who is the winner until the "bell" rings!The reason this outshines games such as Monopoly, it that ACQUIRE it is truly a "group" game! ACQUIRE is a classic financial game. Buy stock and maneuver corporations. Cash in bonuses for being a major stockholder when the mergers happen!

This is the best-looking American edition of this game (it's been printed several times by different publishers here and in Europe), with nice colored headquarters buildings and chunky gray board tiles, with a glossy black board that holds the tiles in place.

The game plays quickly, and is over in about 45 minutes or so. You'll usually be paying attention even when it's not your turn, as your opponents tile placements and stock buys will often affect your plans. Everyone is in the game to the end (no one gets eliminated), and the game usually ends up being pretty close. Sometimes the winner is someone you thought had no chance, but you'll figure out when the winner turned it around during the after-action analysis. Why play Monopoly (which takes about 4 times as long to play) when you can play ACQUIRE, which is at least 4 times as fun and interesting?

P.S. Someone must be high in Tallahassee. There are 9x12= 108 tiles in this version, the SAME as every other edition of ACQUIRE that I have ever seen. The number of companies and stock certificates are the same, also. So don't worry, this edition has all the standard pieces the previous editions had, and is prettier to boot!

This is a really great game.I can't believe it has flown under my radar for so long.I actually don't play the new "Avalon Hill" version.I prefer the 1960s 3M version, available on Ebay if nowhere else.The 1960s version is quite a bit simpler and doesn't have the gaudy colors and names that the new version has.But basically they are the same game.

There are two main reasons this game is far superior to Monopoly 1. No dice that element of chance is not present there is still some chance, but it is a very level playing field. 2. There is no negotiations like there is in Monopoly.My brothers and I had to stop playing Monopoly after a while because we would fight too much.But we can play Acquire because there are no negotiations!You just build hotels and buy stock.Great game great fun for the whole family (provided the family is old enough to understand and play well I suggest 14 and up).

Another great game is Settlers of Catan, and though it does have dice and negotiations, it is a very good game too.

The best thing about Acquire is that it is very easy to learn, but nonetheless involves a lot of thinking and strategy. This is unusual for strategy games most of them tend to involve lots of rules and so players get bogged down or scared away. But not with Acquire. You will actually get new players regularly, and old players keep coming back. Games are short (45-60 minutes), which is another big plus.

It is the best multiplayer game that is popular among non-gamers. I cannot speak highly enough of this game you will soon find yourself thinking like a financial strategist and corporate bigwig. If they had an online version of it, I would play every day. Try to get it used, since the price tag is high, but be sure to get one with the plastic pieces. This new version by Hasbro is GREAT! Buy it today.

Butterfly TC1000 Table Tennis Table Cover

I own a nice Kettler Master Pro Table.It is 5ft wide and 9 ft long.The Master Pro is almost a $1000 outdoor table -I want something to protect it and I am so tired of throwing money away on those plastic or PVC covers that crack, rip, tear as soon as you get them.The table is down in its play position 24-7-365 on an outdoor court in my backyard.This Butterfly product may work well for tables that are in a folded storage position.However, I would not recommend this product if you are intending to use this cover outdoors and your table is down and is in the play position with or without the net up.The cover will not lay flat.The part of the cover that would go over the net bunches up and looks terrible and the cover barely will cover the actual table surface at this center point.I thought about using a few tarp clips and bungie/elastic cords to try to make use of the cover or maybe a few spring clamps on each corner of the table to hold the cover down in place.But then I thought -I just spend $64+ dollars for a table tennis cover.It should be designed to work.For $64, there should be some system to secure the cover in its lay-flat position.Needless to say I returned it the same day.I will not support a manufacture that can't design a cover to protect a table when it is in its play position.How hard can it be to make a cover like that.What is more surprising is that I can't find anyone that makes a decent cover for our table when they are in their down position.Maybe I'll design something since no one else can seem to do it.

For now, after returning the Butterfly Cover which uses some pretty thin nylon fabric, I visited Harbor Freight and picked up a Silver 9mil 8Ft 6 inches X 11 Ft 4 inches tarp for $12 (wasn't on sale that day and my 20% off coupon expired) and I picked up 43 1/2 spring clips for a couple bucks each one for each corner of the table.Within 2 minutes, the tarp covered the table beautifully (with the net up) and I used the clamps (squeeze and let go to clamp) to hold the 9 mil tarp in place.For $20, I have a solution that will keep water, leaves, dirt, etc off the table through the winter and summer.The tarp will not crack in the winter and a 9 mil tarp will last several years with rain, wind, and sun.And, oh by the way, it looks good.The clamps fold the excess tarp under the table so it has this almost custom look appearance.

Bottom-line you can easily make a MUCH better solution for a lot less money that will last longer and look nice.Again it amazes me that someone simply doesn't create a pattern from tarp material or some better grade nylon material and sews it some elastic around the corners so it hugs the table like a mattress pad cover would on your bed.

This cover is water resistant vs truly waterproof.It's pretty heavy duty and well-made. I use it to cover an indoor type table that is kept outdoors in rain.By itself, it won't do that job.It admits some water on the side zips and the stitching at the top handle leaks.I think I will use seam-seal (for waterproofing tents) on all sewed seams and still may have to add a plastic tarp or something underneath to 100% insure it's watertight.

First day thoughts: Very good value. Heavy duty cordura nylon looking material. Using it on my Kettler outdoor table. Good coverage all the way down to about 6 inches from the ground when the table is folded up. Heavy enough where I don't think wind will ever blow it off.

My only regret is that it droops severely at the top on account of my table folding tightly together at the top giving it a triangular shape. The cover is rectangular just like the picture. The excess fabric creates a few large folds that make a great looking cover look like a tarp I threw over the table(maybe not that bad). I don't deduct from my 5 star rating because the picture and dimensions are accurate. I should have known it would fit this way. None the less I am happy with my purchase.

Nice cover and works well if table is folded but it does not work very well when the table is open.It won't lay flat on the table and corners easily blow up with wind. The color also faded in only a couple of weeks as it now has a pinkish hue to it.When the table is folded it is also a bit too wide, so overall not ideal.I ordered it because it was the only alternative are blue covers that are an eyesore.So in conclusion, it is more discreet than the bright blue covers but not very practical if you want to keep yout table in the open position.

Update on 12/24/12. Two years later this covers is in self inflicted shreds. Rapid discoloeation continued all the way to a light grayWould not purchase again. Would change two two star review

Uncle Chestnut's Table Gype

I supported this product on Kickstarter and was so excited when I heard that it would be a reality. I got Gype for Christmas and got beat the first two games I played.But, over time, you get better.You think of better strategies.Two Player is okay, but 3 and 4 players is where it gets crazy fun!There are several ways to play this game.You can even make up your own.One of the games we made up is called "Forest Fire."This is where each player starts off with 6 trees and 2 flames (and can place them in any order they choose).Reply to this comment, explaining any of your own made-up-games using Uncle Chestnut's Table Gype.

I ordered Gype via Kickstarter to fund the first manufacturing run. The product quality is while not stellar certainly sufficient.

The game comes in a handy bag and is easy to set up. It basically takes 2 minutes to read the rules and start playing. The first game I played took about 15 minutes (2 player). It was amazing! The games moves quickly. There is some thinking involved but not too much. Whenever it gets too tricky the element of luck comes in.

Its a really nice game to relax, have fun and still have a nice conversation while playing.

$25 for a fun evening with friends? That's more than worth the money.

This is a great little game to break out if you're looking for something quick and fun to play. The game reminds me of a combination of chess and Chinese checkers. When only two people are playing the game can be completed in as little as 10 minutes. When 3 or more players are participating though is when the game gets really fun.

Played our first game of Gype tonight with the family and they really had fun with it.It reminded me of some of the 4-player variants of Chess or Stratego, and also of the game Traverse.But the really innovative parts of this game are that when pieces are "jumped" that they aren't removed from the game, but rather the pieces themselves are dice that need to be rolled.This changes everything, literally.From our experience it seems like the "flame" and "hat" were some of the most effective pieces.So if an opponent has one of those in a strategic place, and you jump it, then that piece will most likely change.

It is a great combination of strategy and chance (imagine a game of Chess where the pieces could change mid-game). Strategy purists can play a variant where the types of pieces are fixed at the beginning and don't change.

Another feature of this game is that it is really portable a fabric board, bag, and pieces.So it travels well in the van, camping, backpacking (no box to break or mess up).

The production quality isn't as polished as many "Big Co." games, but it has a nice "hand-crafted" feel which I don't mind at all (doesn't detract from playing).

LP GAME: Mind Wars

This is a fun game for kids.It is sort of like a Electronic Trivial Pursuit with some silly stuff thrown in.My 4 year old played the 1st-2nd grade version and although it was slightly over his head, he knew about half the questions.My 2nd grader likes to play the 3rd-5th grade version.It is fun.I wish they had one for adults.

You insert the game into the Leap Pad system, just like the books, plug in the buzzers like the book cartriges, and you are all set up.You do not even need to read the directions.The game walks you through everything step-by-step.

I highly recommend this game.

I bought this for my 3rd grader and it's a real hoot to play.The voice that talks you through is very funny and keeps him interested.It's also great that the game can be played alone because out of my 3 kids (4, 8 & 10) only the 8 yr old likes to play games often.The questions are challenging enough for them.What I like best is that the kids have to pay attention or they'll miss something (and hence answer incorrectly).It teaches them patience.The volume has been no problem for us...there is always a volume (+) area on these leap pads to adjust.We just turn it up loud!A great buy for only $7!

This was the best purchase!I bought this last year for my 5yr old as she was not interested in handheld GameBoy, altho she tried when her brother wasn't looking.Now, being 6, she still loves it.She has to tell her 8 yr old brother, No, I'm using it.My son also loves to use this, especially in the car on road trips--to the grocery store or 2hours plus trips.I'm thinking of buying another one, so I don't have to listen to the fighting who gets to use it!The volume is no problem and the variety of programs is fantastic for both the older and younger sets.I highly recommend this intriguingly educational and extremely fun game!

We had a ton of fun with these ducks at Thanksgiving.They are very tastefully done.Our two four-year-old grandsons enjoyed having them on the table, and it gave us a chance to have some props for the story of the First Thanksgiving.(they were also good for sorting and matching games.)

Cards slide across it with no problem.

Easy for the dealer to reach everything on the table.

Cons:

Cup holders are flimsy and break very easy.

All in all a nice table.If only there was a way to get replacements for the cup holders.They broke in transit a little too easy.

This table is excellent for home card games and can be transported with relative ease. The bottom fixtures became loose after somefolding and unfolding so making sure they are tight and secure is advised. The cup holders were plastic and came up quite easily with some repetitive use. Other than that the table is worth the price of approximately $200.

I purchased this table as a Father's Day gift for my husband who is currently in dealer school.First, I have to say that it arrived just before Father's Day, but it was severely damaged, so I had to refuse the delivery.Needless to say, I was very disappointed that I had to tell him about his gift rather than surprise him with it... bummer.The second table finally arrived today, and it was in very "acceptable" condition.Now,the graphics on the table are bright and legible; however, they have been silkscreened on the felt so as a student in "dealer school, the only "critique" that warrants being pointed out is that dealers need to pick up the cards in a certain fashion and the silkscreen is raised causing the cards to not "glide" over as smoothly as you would on a real casino table.Overall a very presentable table.That being said, the table is good for practice of some sort, but you are not getting the quality of a "real" blackjack table in a casino.... hence, the $2,000+ price tag to get that quality.

I bought this table along with some other items as a gift for graduation.The table is exactly what I was looking for.It's well made, the perfect height and sturdy.The tray works well for the chips and doesn't bow with their weight.The felt is nice and the cards slide well.It seats seven players which is nice, my only wish would be that the spacing would have been one player on each of the short sides and five across the front.It's a bit tight with seven across the front.

When the second one arrived (the first was severely damaged), we were optimistic.The table is well constructed with the legs attached to a sturdy metal frame underneath, not just screwed into the fiber board.The padded rail is nice, and the table is large, perfect for 7 players.The painting on the felt is okay, not as good as most.I've built some tables, and I don't think you can buy all the materials for what this table cost.

Came folded and extremely creased, but several hours under heavy books took care of that. Storing it in the original package tube. Using colored Vis-A-Vis wet erase markers and a water/detergent solution with paper towels to erase. Warm colors like red tend to stain, but the water/detergent handles that well.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by the durability of this mat. I was expecting something maybe a bit more flimsy, but this is made of good quality solid thick vinyl that lies perfectly flat. If you're looking for a mat for playing miniatures I'd probably recommend the larger mat, but for rpg use, this mat will cover pretty much all but the most epic battles while also leaving table space for books. Having it made for wet-erase markers is a great feature as they won't smudge as readily as dry-erase would. Great product.

Previously in my Role-playing games, we always used Star Wars Miniatures maps no matter what the setting. Unless it was one of those time where I set up terrain and we used inches instead of squares. It was fun, but we had to use the same maps for many different things, and the maps were always exactly the same.

Now, using a set of wet-erase markers, I can just sketch a quick map, add in any important details (Cover, computers, equipment, all that fun stuff) with another color or two, and voila! A different map.

I will point out for other potential buyers the mat came with a "Care & Feeding" sheet (That's right, care and FEEDING. Weird, huh?) that says NOT TO USE DRY ERASE.

DRY ERASE can stain it. Use only water-soluble pens, it says.

This is the mat that you buy and then take with you to any RPG session you attend, unless someone there already owns one. You draw on it, set tiles on it, play with miniatures or tokens, roll it up and put it away. You practically forget it's an essential part of your DM stuff collection, until the day you've left it at home by mistake. Over a decade later, you realize it has survived more abuse and wear than every piece of furniture in your house. It's easy to forget to write a glowing review of a product that isn't terribly flashy and stays with you forever and ever -if I wasn't about to buy a second one of these to permanently install on a table, I wouldn't have thought to pop in here and 5-star it either.

Granted, it's just a vinyl mat with squares and hex-marks. But this is exactly everything you could possibly want from a vinyl mat with squares and hex-marks. The alternatives for sale (notably including products by the sorta awful "Role 4 Initiative") are just overpriced big sheets of laminated paper, which sound nice at first (you can use Sharpies!) but tend to crinkle when rolled up (and will never ever lay flat again). Rather than buy a $20 gigantic laminate that Kinko's could probably create for a third the cost, buy this mat. And if you remember to, years and years later, come back and write a 5-star review about how durable and useful it was. :)

(Oh, and in the event of stains, just google for how to clean vinyl. We've cleaned a wider variety of gunk off this mat than it would be possible to clean out of carpet. Soda, condiments, dust from bags of chips, blood from a nosebleed, permanent marker, glue, paint used to paint miniatures, paint used to paint walls, coffee, and a million things I'm forgetting. I've heard of people throwing their mats away over accidental Sharpie use -don't! trust the google! it's recoverable!)

Chessex also makes a larger version of this mat, in case you want to have longbow fights. I think a larger mat would just be more cumbersome.

First off... this is a high-quality gaming mat. I first used one in a game a friend of mine was running and knew immediately that I would be getting one for my own game. Wet erase markers go on boldly and stay on during play. Wipe with a damp cloth and the mat cleans perfectly. Highly recommended.

That said, the mat is packaged in a flattened roll and shrink-wrapped. The seller put that in a nice shipping tube, but the shrink wrap was already a problem. When unrolled the mat had a memory of "rolling folds". It was wavy and would not lay flat. Some recommend putting it outside in the sun for awhile, but it's cold outside where I live, so that wasn't going to help. Instead, I taped it down to a table with painter's tape and piled it high with books. After a week all of the waves were gone... no issues at all.

I don't want to dissuade anybody from purchasing this great product... but get it well in advance of your first gaming session and give it a nice long rest under something heavy!

The assignment was to roll dice and he had to add up the values.Despite having a plethora of board games it was a struggle to come up with 3-5 dice.Right away I knew I could solve this problem on Amazon. You can build things with them, roll them, just have a all kinds of fun with them. I'm very happy with these dice. The 16mm is what you find in most kids games. These are perfect replacements for lost dice. I've used these for several projects and my kids have claim a few too.

Barbie Glam Refrigerator

All the pieces to Mattel's Barbie Pink furniture line are adorable and are up to date with today's fashion and design conscience little girls, but wow, talk about all the little pieces that come along with the sets that seriously are a hazard to anyone who has animals in the house. After my daughter is finished playing with her Barbies and setting up house, I have to make sure each and every time that ALL the little pieces are retrieved for the sake of my pups. If it weren't for me worrying about my little dogs, I would rest easier. As a matter of fact, I wish I had so many options with my Barbies back in the 60's. Overall, the furniture is functional and the rooms are glam! She has a lot of fun playing with her Barbies and that's all that matters most.

On the pictures it looks like eye-candy AND looks like it would be good for little girls to "play kitchen" since they'll be familiar with many of the foods and condiments (like eggs, ketchup, etc.) However, the little food items are sooo small, it's hard to deal with them. First they are ripe for getting lost very hard to store these, second, when you're trying to put them on the shelves, it's almost impossible because you can't put something on without knocking something else over. When it first arrives it looks great because all items are neatly stored on the shelves. But that's only because they are being held there by plastic. Once you remove the form-fitting plastic, some of the condiments have such a small base, getting them to ever stand upright again would be nearly impossible. It's not a very practical toy overall.

My daughter loves tiny things, so the food in this fridge is a hit with her. The fridge itself too. The drawer at the bottom is quite spacious and allows her to store more tiny food than what is included in this package. My only complaint is that I feel for the price the fridge could be a little sturdier in its design particularly the doors. And the amount of scotch tape on it when we unpacked it was ridiculous! But all in all it is definitely fun.

This set has a lot of potential for kitbashing.Although is is a bit small for 1:6 scale dolls and figures, it works fine as a background piece for photographs.It would be a good size for 9 or 10 inch dolls or figures.

The set comes with a large assortment of food products most of which look very good with a little repainting.The roast chicken on a platter was what really made me decide to purchase this product.

The refrigerator comes apart easily for repainting.The printed panels come off easily when the unit is soaked in hot water.After removing the stickers, I washed each piece in warm water and dishwashing detergent with a scuff pad. I used standard spray primer and gloss enamel on the refrigerator pieces and encountered no adverse reaction to the plastic.

I used acrylic craft paints on the food items however since the soft plastic Mattel uses for these often is not compatable with oil based paints.

I had a lot of fun customizing this piece.It was easy to dis-assenble, and seems quite durable.Nothing broke during reassembly.Other than the size factor I found this to be a really good quality product to rebuild as something quite useable as a photo prop or in a diorama.
