Star Wars Miniatures: Whiphid Tracker # 39 - Imperial Entanglements
It is a miniature, about 1½ inches high with a circular base about 0.9 inches in diameter (the picture on Amazon is twice actual size). Apparently, it can be played in miniature war games, since it comes with a card showing the basic combat strength points and the character's Special Abilities.
It's a nice miniature collectible or souvenir for any Star Wars fan who's knowledgeable of the many minor characters in the series.

Multiplication Practice Math Machine
Now that my kids are learning the times tables, I have searched far and wide for a toy that has all of the numbers, 1-9, laid out in this grid, knowing that the grid helps the student find patterns and see relationships that you miss when using flash cards or something similar. I've even searched websites to find a grid layout game online, and couldn't find it.
I found this toy, but hesitated because it didn't look like very high quality (there is another, similar toy on the market that got bad reviews because of its poor quality). I finally caved and ordered this toy, since I hadn't found anything else similar, and my daughter really needed some help seeing the big picture. When it arrived, I was surprised at how heavy it is. Though the numbers are only printed on stickers that are placed on the plastic (I wish the numbers were printed directly on the plastic), the toy itself seems fairly well-made. I'm still not sure how long the springs will last, as we just received the toy today. But I do have a better first impression than I expected.Purchased for my 6 yr old who loves math and loves to push buttons. He has started to memorize the multiplication tables using this toy.Afraid he'll be better at math than me in no time. It's easy to read (the answers pop up in red text on the bottom side of the button when pressed), easy to use, great layout/format, quiet, requires no batteries, and is great for travel. The numbers on the buttons are on stickers (not etched or painted on), but I have not had a problem with that.

I just pulled this item up because I have the whole set that is now a good 5 years old. I have to tell you that as far as I can tell these tile boards are indestructable, incredibly durable, and extremely educational not to mention the fun that my daughter has had pushing to buttons.Anyway, I pulled the site up so that I could send the link to our local elementary school that my daughter attends.I bought all 4 (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) as a set while my daughter was in Kindergarten.I struck GOLD!!We still use the multiplication and especially the division one, she is now 12-years old.Excellent way to keep the kids SHARP.I have my daughter close her eyes, randomly touch upon one of the tiles, and then.....we see how sharp she is.My daughter has acute ADHD and these boards have been the ticket!!They are engaging versus sitting still and memorizing math facts. An absolutely awesome learning tool.

Hover Hockey DELUXE Air Hockey Game
THe little goals they give you are kind of useless, they're too lightweight and move if you brush into them but other than that its a great set.
We've only had these since the holidays, but so far quite durable!
As I suspected the boundaries that you set up for the air hockey are both weak and small. However the hovercraft puck and hand pieces are great. So we play with them on the hardwood floor and also made our own legless (on the floor) table with goals out of scrap wood.I think we got 90% of the experience (AFTER making the table) for maybe 20% of the cost of getting a regular table off of Craigslist.

These are official bases so they are what you need if you want to do it right. not much else to say.
LeapFrog Discovery Ball
The Discovery Ball by Leap Frog is a dual-use toy. The youngest children can spin the colorful ball around on its base to hear the music play, and older, more mobile children would enjoy chasing this sturdy ball around the floor.
What impressed me the most was it's use of what we teachers call the "cloze procedure" (I teach first grade). When the child spins the ball, it will sing the abc song. After a first singing all the way through, the ball will stop singing at a strategic point to encourage the child to spin again. What is really happening, is that the song is in the process of being memorized the young child hears part of it, and when he/she realizes that something's missing, the child physically responds to "fill in the missing gap".That's a pretty powerful response when you see it going on with a 10 month old!
All that aside, my 3 year old daughter likes to play with it, too.Her favorite part is to listen to the 3rd setting, which features 26 different classical tunes.
This toy would be a good investment for your family.

I bought this toy to keep at my house for my twin nephews a few months ago. They are 10 months old now and they love this toy! My sister-in-law even had to go buy one to keep at her house because they played with it so much. Even the older kids and adults like to play with it. I love that it has a high and low volume switch. And you can keep it on the base for younger babies who aren't crawling yet so they can sit or lay and spin it. And for the crawlers and walkers you can take it off the base so they can roll it around and chase after it. It has good sound quality and the music is enjoyable, not annoying. I've only had 2 small problems with it: the first one I bought had 3 letter buttons that did not work so I had to exchange it; and a few times the sound has become distorted, I think from getting too wet with drool, but it goes back to normal quickly when it starts to dry out. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great and educational toy!Read Best Reviews of LeapFrog Discovery Ball Here
The Discovery Ball toy is the perfect example of why reviews can be misleading to shoppers.Parents read the reviews, the particulars, and they think, "WOW, this toy is developmental, it will teach my kid the alphabet, and letter sounds. My kid'll be a genius by 2!"To be honest, had I reviewed this toy soon after my son received it, I would have given it 5-stars and gushed about its developmental qualities. However, time has proven reliable, and I have deduced after 2-years and 2-months that it is, and was insignificant to my son's development.By that, I mean the toy was of no consequence to us.The concept is first-rate, however the delivery is lacking.I mean, what kid wants to roll a ball when they can throw it?The Discovery Ball is designed for infants and toddlers, but it's probably more appropriate for preschoolers.Firstly, the buttons are too difficult for an infant to press; also, they are too close together.Secondly, it's too sensitive. For example, let's say the toy is in "music" mode and its playing Old MacDonald, if the ball is touched midstream the music will stop, and revert into 1 of the 2 very annoying intervening songs. It's like punishment, rather than play. Can I say without it sounding too harsh, "WHAT'S THE POINT?"LeapFrog should have decided long ago whether they were designing an educational tool for preschoolers, or a plaything for infants.
William received the Discovery Ball for his 1st Christmas. He was 8-months old at the time, so I took the ball off the stand so he could bat it around on the floor. He'd roll it, the lights would flash, the music would play, and he'd giggle. After a few rolls, he lost interest. The toy has a musical prompt, which occasionally got a look, but most often, he was onto something better.Soon after his 1st birthday, he discovered the ON/OFF switch. He'd sit on the floor and repeatedly turn the thing "ON" and then "OFF".It would play the ABC Song for 3-seconds, he'd slide the lever to the "OFF" position, and then back to "ON" again. It was enough to drive me nuts!He didn't care about the phonics, or even the music, all he cared about was that darn ON/OFF switch. The sound quality is good, but the woman's voice grated on my nerves after hearing 3-seconds of the ABC Song 1000-times in an afternoon.Fortunately, there is a volume control, although my son usually wants to HEAR his toys.As if the lower level isn't loud enough.UGH!Oh, and this toy is one of those irritating playthings that goes off in the toy box, if you fail to turn it "OFF".
After his 2nd birthday, William gained enough strength and proficiency to throw the ball.I suppose I should have attached it to its base right there and then, but dummy me thought he'd grow out of that phase. Later, I realized the throwing phase was here to stay, so I put the Discovery Ball back on its base.My attempts were futile, as my crafty little one figured out how to remove it a week later. The toy is sturdy, especially considering how many times it has been dropped, and thrown. We've only replaced the batteries twice, which is an event all its own.Let me just say, its not overly difficult, but more complicated than most.
The Discovery Ball can be tricky to wash.LeapFrog recommends you clean the ball with a damp cloth, but that doesn't always produce the best results. You see, the letters and musical notes that cover the surface of the ball are raised, so grime can become lodged in, and between the grooves.I've resorted to spraying Lysol on a rag and wiping it down.It doesn't completely remove the dirt, but it disinfects it, which makes me feel better.
In conclusion, the toys more annoying than enjoyable, so it collects dust, until my son finds it, and then it's transformed into a heavy, throwing ball that hurts when hit.My advice ~ avoid it.
Mary :)

From LeapFrog, this is the toy my 11 months old son loves the most.
* This toy has 2 volume sets: high and low (THANK YOU!).
* When you roll the ball, you can either hear the ABC song or other few melodies.
* If you press any of the letters, you'll hear either its name, how it sounds, or a melody.
* It also shows bright light on both sides of the alphabet, so music, colors, light and motion will capture baby's attention.
* The ball can be attached to the base for the baby's early months or can be detached from the base when the baby is "mobile".
* Sound is crystal clear.
* The materials are solid but soft, just the right texture and has bright colors.
* It helps the baby to recognize the alphabet (by name and by sound) and will enjoy many short melodies as well.
In a nutshell, a MUST buy for the learning baby.

Mini Lalaloopsy Playset - Tea Set
Pros...
~Crumbs Sugar Cookie is in a fancy yellow dress and black mary janes~ different from the original Crumbs mini. Her mouse wears a bow.
~The creativity it took to design the furniture is sweet... literally. The chairs look like cookies, the table is made of a spool and a cookie.
~The accessories~ a b/w striped teapot, 2 teacups & saucers and a cookie jar~ are some of my girls' favorite pieces to play with, whether it's with the mini Lalas or the little My Little Ponies.
~We've had this set for over a year, and it still gets lots of play time.
Cons... these are structure related...
~The chairs are very frustrating because the dolls don't sit in the chairs easily. If at all.My 3 year old gets so upset with this.My 6 year old just doesn't bother trying to seat the dolls, but seats their pets.
~The chairs come apart. The backs snap off (which is somewhat a pro because THEN the dolls can sit, sort of).The legs all pop off.If the legs do come off once, then they will a million times.
~The accessories are teeny tiny. While cute for kids who do not put every single thing in their mouths, the small accessories are a major attraction and choking hazard for little ones.My 6 and 3 year olds can't play with this set (or any mini Lala, for that matter) in rooms their 15 month old sister can roam in.
Yes, I would recommend this to anyone willing to glue the furniture together, and to anyone without babies around:)
I bought this for my niece for her birthday and she plays with it constantly!!Holds up well and was a good price!!

My daughters ages 8 and 9 love these. They are so cute. They love rag dolls because they are so floppy and these dolls are just the same but plastic! Their legs swing freely, heads bobble, and their arms can be twisted. Just very cute. Seem very well made and durable. They were their favorite toy this Christmas!Want Mini Lalaloopsy Playset - Tea Set Discount?
This is a very cute little set. There are a few downsides I see, but they don't affect the use so much that I would "take them all back."
Firstly, all the pieces will not fit on the table at once. The table is barely big enough for the two teacups and saucers and the teapot. You can't fit the cookie jar, or if you put the cookie jar on the table, the teapot won't fit. That's why the doll is holding it in her hand in the product photo. Not the best design but not a deal breaker.
The other thing that I don't like, is that each chair is SIX PIECES. You all know that while these tiny toys are adorable, the less pieces the better. Especially when if a chair comes apart, and you lose one leg, the chair is pretty much useless. So why make each leg, the chair seat, and the chair back, all pieces that detach from each other, easily. They don't necessarily "fall apart" and they are sturdily made, but the backs came off the chairs when taking them out of the packaging, and my daughter had all the legs off the chairs about 5 minutes after I gave them to her (she's almost 4)I tested, and the table also comes apart in three pieces, but she hasn't figured that out yet :) So overall, what looks like 3 pieces is actually FIFTEEN pieces.
I am not worried about her with little pieces, but she does have a younger sibling in the picture, and the fact that she can take the legs off just increases the chance that she could lose a piece and the littler one could find it and choke. Just my thoughts. Not necessarily a deal breaker, but something that surprised me. I never tried to sit the doll in the seat before. My daughter never complained about it... But I wanted to test it out myself, and yes, it is IMPOSSIBLE for the doll to sit in the chair. Her legs are attached to her body and swing around freely under the dress much like the gong of a bell. My daughter has not complained however. I also know that not ALL of these mini dolls are like this, because we also have the Pillow Featherbed mini doll and her legs are "normal" and poseable, rotating at the thigh.
Overall, we purchased this at a retail store for an affordable price, and it's a great little quiet toy that really holds the attention of someone who is also into things like Polly Pockets and Littlest Pet Shop. Great toy for playing up on the table or taking to church or the doctor office. Doesn't take up much space, could fit in mom's purse or child's backpack, is lightweight and has no noises or lights that would annoy anyone. It keeps her pleasantly occupied. I would recommend, if solely based on her happiness :)

We only have a small issue with the design is they didn't include the bell in this model, also the user's guide should let people know that the smoke will only come out once you run the train for a while in full speed.

Daughter got me this train and I am now living my third childhood (64 yo). It is easy to put up and at some time in the distant future (unless wife gets tired of playing with it when I am on the computer, and puts it away). We have a lot of fun driving our dog crazy with the whistle and all. I will probably get some small buildings and people and other stuff to use every Christmas around the base of the tree. This set as is, is perfect for that in the square track layout. When I was a kid, my dad got us an American Flyer Electric Train set and I played with it for at least 18 years. The Lionel O gage system will make a perfect gift for Juniors first electric train. It is simple to set up and ready to play with.Product is as it is.I would buy it again! The smoke doesn't blow much though I was expecting more smoke to blow, but only a little bit blows when you crank the train up as fast as it can go.We love this train! It holds up nicely to young children driving it, and is quite sturdy.A good quality product that my family will get to enjoy for years to come!Little Tikes Double Easel

My son and daughter really enjoyed this easel. The removable trays make it easy for cleaning up.Getting paper has never been a problem.I just get 12x18" drawing or newsprint paper and fold and tear about 4-5 inches off the length. When my daughter was 1 yr. old until about 2 yrs. old I taped 12x18" paper horizontally since she couldn't reach as high. Both children could paint at the same time by taping one child's paper to the chalk board. The problem we had with it was that the posts that hold on the removable trays broke. Now I have to find out if the parts can be ordered from the company or make more out of wood.My son climbed on the tray to try to reach something and it broke, but as long as your child doesn't take things apart and climb on things the way my son does, it would be a good buy. This is an everlasting toy except one problem.Finding replacement paper has been next to impossible.Order extra paper ifyou can at the time of ordering. This is one of the best purchases I have made in a while. The product is absolutely magnificent. From the outside packaging to the double easel inside your will find that this was money well spent. I have recently openend a home day-care and the children in my care love to use this. The best part is that it comes with most things you would need in order to make the easel fun. Such as chalk, brush and paper. Little Tikes has taken every step to child-proof their product. Most importantly it is very durable so you will have years of fun, excitement, and learning fun with your children. Little Tikes has done a wonderful job. Elementeo Chemistry Card Game
Will you learn something about chemistry? Well, some. It helps to know what elements make up a compound. You'll also learn more about characteristics of elements as you read through the cards, which are annotated with useful information.
Components: The game comes with a folding thick playing board, two 40-card decks of Element cards, a 19-card Compound deck, and a 20-card Alchemy deck. They're beautifully illustrated by a professional artist.
Rules: The colorful 43-page rule book is clearly written and offers a useful glossary of terms that will be familiar to the chemist. After our two games we had a few niggling questions on rules, but for the most part the rules are well thought out and explained. The rules are somewhat repetitive as you're taken through the different play levels. Most players will want to start playing using all the play levels since the game is easy to play and learn even with all the levels incorporated.
This is basically a card game on the order of Magic. Your cards have certain strengths that apply toward combat. There is a die roll added to the base strengths that makes things interesting. The die reads 1,1,2,2,3,3, which reduces randomness to an acceptable level. Some Element cards have special powers written on them, as do Compound cards.
Each player has 3 actions in a turn, which can be applied to card placement, movement, and combat. The goal is to reach your opponents side of the board, called the fortress, and destroy all of his 10 electrons (white chips). Once your card reaches your opponent's side of the board, you roll the die for hits and the card expires, relegated to the Toxic Waste Pile.
Strategy: There's a lot to think about during the game. How do you conduct your offense, while preventing your opponent from reaching your side of the board? Do you create compounds or not? Compound cards are powerful, but they take time and resources to build.
I think the crux of the game is creating Compounds cards. Here's where you start to learn. You need to know what elements combine to make a compound. There's a helpful cheat card that lists some common compounds. It takes two to three elements to make a Compound card, which, as you might expect, has greater powers. You can also use your electrons to buy Compound cards, but it's a random draw. Gunpowder is an awesome 10 points, making it virtually invincible in combat. However, there's an Alchemy card that destroys an opponent's compound, which my son happened to have in hand when I created Gunpowder.
So, how educational is it? By reading all the cards and studying what elements combine to make compounds, you're picking up the basics of chemistry. You won't be playing Elementeo in preparation for an organic chemistry exam, but this is a game with chemistry as its theme, pure and simple.
Our games went quickly, taking about 20 minutes each. I like that duration for quick, fun games. All in all, I'm impressed.
I purchased Elementeo for my seven year old son who is very interested in science. The game sparked his interest in learning about Chemistry and the Periodic Table of Elements. The cards for the game are colorful and interesting. They provide the player with factual knowledge about the elements in a fun and exciting way!I also know of high school teachers that use the game as a teaching tool.Elementeo makes learning Chemistry fun! This is an excellent game!I highly recommend it!

After watching my seven year-old memorize page after page of Pokemon statistics, I couldn't help but search for something more scientific for him to memorize. Luckily, we found Elementeo. I brought it with us on a trip and my son was instantly hooked. We started by playing a few games at the most basic level, the Element Level, and I was very impressed with how much thought went into creating the game. The cards are well designed, with interesting images and easy-to-read information that teaches you something about each element or compound. My son quickly caught on and wanted to advance to the next level. Playing at each level helped us understand how to play and begin to strategize. I found him studying the cards and wanting to know more about the elements. As a geologist and parent, I was thrilled.
Recently, I had the opportunity to hear the founder, Anshul, speak about how he created the game. It was one of the best talks I have heard. He is a natural speaker and the kids loved him. He explained the process of creating the game and made sure the kids understood, throughout each step of the talk, that they too could create something. He showed the evolution of one of the cards to help the kids see that he didn't use the first, second, or even fourth version. We came away from the talk empowered.
I highly recommend this game. It doesn't take very long to play, your kids will learn some basic chemistry, and it's engaging for adults too.

The inventor of this game is a young man in high school he did a fine job on it, and I bought it in part to support and encourage him, and in part to help my son (7 at the time we bought the game) learn a few things about Chemistry.
The artwork on the playing cards is very well done, the game's basic concepts are quick to pick up, and it's enough fun to keep a kid's attention for quite a while. My son had a good time learning the various elements and their clever names. We come back to it periodically and still enjoy it.
I do wish there was more content in the manual about actual chemistry there's just a little but it was enough to pique my son's interest and he then devoured Simon Basher's "The Periodic Table", and had fun cross-referencing the game with the chemistry book.
In all, I think it was better than many of the commercial games we have, and I recommend it to parents who appreciate blending fun and science.
