Kikkerland Dog Stapler, Red (ST07-R)

Kikkerland Dog Stapler, Red
  • Dog shaped stapler
  • Red painted steel with chrome accents
  • Fits standard staples (not included)
  • Measures 7.45 x 2.75 x 1-inch

Very happy with it.Seems solidly constructed.Loads like a construction style staple gun and is very easy to operate.I like it's design better than the more common desk staplers.Plus it's cute looking. One possible downside is that I see no easy way to open it up to clear a jammed staple. Also, when I took it out of the box, a small piece of black plastic fell out of the box too, I'm not sure what it's for but the stapler works fine so I guess I'll hang onto the plastic thing in the box in case it's purpose presents itself.

EDIT: January 24th, 2013, A year and a half later, this stapler is still holding up fine. I only use it maybe three times a month but it works great all three times. Once or twice a staple has jammed but I have had a fairly easy time removing jams with standard pliers.

Exactly as looks in the picture and as described. Easier to use than a desktop stapler. Uses regular staples and attaches them securely whether you are stapling 2 sheets or a dozen. Makes a satisfying sound as it staples so you can tell your item is stapled correctly. Have used for several months now and not one miss, jam or wayward staple. Easy to load. Looks fun on your desk and is easy to see in the bright red color. Makes me smile each time I use it.

I work at a retail shop that sells pet food, etc and I bought this to use at work.Customers think it is cute and unlike some other reviews I have not had any problems with stapler so far.

Step2 Tool Chest Dresser

Step2 Tool Chest DresserMake sure you ask yourself this question before you buy this item.It is really cute, but it is certainly not a dresser. It is a storage unit.It is small, a really good size for a small TV stand or a bedside table (especially if you have a big Little Tikes car bed.)There are 4 cupboard type doors that open to one compartment which is separated by one shelf about midway. It does not come with any bins to better utilize the space inside, so if you want to put anything that does not stack easily you may need to buy some containers. We are using it for a bedside table and will keep books, etc inside. It is well made, but the plastic top and shelf are not extremely flat. You can literally pull it out of the box and it is fully assembled, all we had to do was to put the decal stickers on..

I thought this was the cutest thing to go with my sons car bed. We purchased and received by UPS. Hardly anything to assemble just put on the stickers and the "rollers" and you're done. Our middle shelf inside seems alittle messed up. Almost like something heavy was set on it and it drops down a little. Not flat but the top is fine and doors shut okay. I probably would have sent it back but my son would not have let it leave the house. My son loves it. I would purchase again. Very cute. We use it for toys not clothes. I wish I would have found it sooner.

I just bought this tool chest for my son today. I have been thinking about getting it for about a week so I went ahead and bought it today. He really loves it. I think it is great! It is something different and really cool for little boys. I put his tv on top which fit great. I also had plenty of room inside for X box and direct tv box. Also some extra room for books and movies. I would recommend this for any little boy. I think it is great!

We added this "dresser" to the Cars motif bedroom that my son (2 years old) absolutely loves!

Like others who have reviewed it, we found it is really not appropriate for use as a dresser, but the two storage shelves of the unit are great for a lot of his toys, books, and has also become his hiding place where he "disappears" from Mommy and Daddy, then bursts out with "Here I Am!"... a game he loves.

The unit is fully assembled in the shipping box, and only requires sticker placement.

As for durability and design, we have not seen the problems others have mentioned. The doors fit perfectly; open and close appropriately. The shelves are strong and as mentioned earlier, fully support my son's 35lbs weight, though that certainly was not intentioned by the manufacturer.

The top is also strong but is not a flat surface (Looks like wide tire tread or pickup toolbox), so placing anything that requires careful balance (like some lamps) may not be the best idea.

Overall, we are extremely pleased with the unit, and more importantly, my son LOVES it. (We are purchasing the matching toy storage box, also available on Amazon).

Highly recommended if your child is a "Cars / Lightning McQueen" fanatic like ours is!

Thought it was really cool... as my son is really into the whole car thing right now... seeing this pop up with the car bed made it a no-brainer. Delivery was quick and it arrived in great condition... was also very fun to place the stickers on it with my son. Made out to be a very memorable experience.

Gund Dog Spunky Plush Toy

Gund Baby Dog Spunky Plush Toy, BlueI bought two of the of the slightly larger light brown spunky a year ago and my son won't go to sleep without them.He liked them so much that I bought two of the blue ones for my newest arrival. This is the type of stuffed animal that your child will get attached to so you need at least two of them.

From a safety perspective, they are great. The eyes are thread and there are no small pieces to come off for your kid to choke on. The stitching is very durable. They go in the regular washing machine.Mine have been washed at least 2 dozen times each and still look great.

The only small con is that they need a second ride in the dryer.

This is easily the most snuggleable plushie that I've ever come across. My little one just loves it; she always sleeps with him at night, and takes him wherever we go.Definitely recommend this to anyone and everyone :)

My brother got Spunky for my daughter when she was ca. 8 months old. Now she is 6 years old and Spunky is still her favourite toy. She never ever goes to sleep without him, she takes care about him and she adores him! We have a lot of toys at home, but none of them is so important as Spunky (it is even her dog's name).

My son who will be turning two next month, loves this toy. He will not go anywhere unless Spunky is with him. The toy is very soft and he loves hugging him and chewin on his nose and ears. In a room full of stuffed animals, Spunky is always his first choice. Can't go wrong with this one.

My daughter is 20 months old and she really loves this soft puppy. He has been her favorite since she was an infant, and she still won't go to sleep without him. He's soft and cuddly, and comes out of the washing machine looking clean as new.

We have already gone through four of these puppies (only because we tend to lose them, plus we keep one at daycare for naptime and one at home). One of the best things about this dog is that he is easy to replace if you're prone to losing toys like we are! We can always find a quick replacement at a nearby toystore, at Babies R Us, or on Amazon.

Best Friend Bands----Singles

Best Friend Bands----SinglesI bought these for my two girls (8 and 11).They always start friendship bracelets but quickly loose interest. My 8 YO always had trouble keeping track of the strings. This product is great!!They can finish a project quickly and it keeps track of your strings for you.Once you get used to the tension you need to put on the strings to get the effect you want it is very easy to produce quality bracelets. They needed help "loading" the wheel, but after a few rows/rounds even my 8 YO was doing it like a pro.You make the bracelet by moving strings from one slit to another. They are color coded to help you out, but like I said, once you get started, it is very simple. My one word of advice for the round one is figure a way to mark the next string you need to move BEFORE you put it aside. We wrapped it around a couple slits. On the square one we just made sure to always finish a row.If you don't mark it, it is very hard to figure out where to start back up.

I highly recommend this product!!

See the nice box with the picture of the loom? All my granddaughter got was the pictured loom wrapped in plastic wrap.no box, no instructions, no beads as promised... the loom and thread. I cannot even explain my horror at sending her such a cheap gift. and I cannot take it back! What do I say? Sorry Gramma got you nothing,I sent it back?

Replogle Globes Franklin Globe, Antique Ocean, 12-Inch Diameter

Replogle Globes Franklin Globe, Antique Ocean, 12-Inch DiameterDisappointed in the construction of this globe. The lines of latitude do not flow smoothly from section to section on the map. There are bumps and grooves where there should be none. I posted an illustrative pic. The base is quite rudimentary. The globe does not spin freely. However, it is a step above the slightly cheaper globe I saw at a big box book store. In the item's defense, from a distance, the color and sheen of the globe are quite pleasing. It comes nicely packed. It will be functional and for the price I won't mind it being bumped around and spun by curious and occasionally grubby fingers.

In the movie about Amelia Earhart there is a quote I believe that says that part of her motivation was based upon receipt of a globe as a young girl. I therefore gave my two grand daughters these globes for Christmas and they were delighted. Both are 7-8 years of age and are at the point where they can start to understand distances, places, and the scale of things. This globe brings the world to each of them yet in different ways.

The color of the globe, the sepia like tint, is pleasing and it appears quite durable even as a gift for a somewhat young child. It seems so far to withstand the twirling that is all too common with globes and the young and the grabbing and carrying it around to demonstrate a point.

Having a globe like this, one of moderately good quality and durability, will be a very useful tool in understanding the world.

We found this globe a very poor quality. The globe is made of 2 pieces that are northern and southern hemispheres. They don't properly meet at the equatorial line and a deep trench is seen. The equatorial line is made of cheap looking red tape which we thought at the first glance a some sort of package tape that needs to be peeled, like the one that comes with process cheese :) The equatorial line is so thick (maybe to hide a poor mating of 2 hemispheres) that it hides a whole country like poor little Singapore. The line is not even straight and strays deep into pacific ocean, great! Of course we returned it and we won't buy another from them. I read some other reviews after the fact and many are mentioning rather shoddy quality of this product.

I received this globe today.I can say I a definitely not happy with it.It is full of blemishes. For instance, where the two halves come together, they are not lined up right. The top half actually overlaps the bottom half creating a very uneven surface. Also, the tape they used around the equator that that holds the two halves together is loose and bubbling up at spot.And.. none of the latitudinal lines line up all the way around the globe. And finally, I wish I could upload pics.Maybe I will find a way, but there are "scratch marks", or "cut marks", I don't know what you would call them, all over the place on this globe.I could almost overlook the other discrepancies somewhat, but these marks make no sense at all.Not happy.Worst product I've ever bought on Amazon.

MindWare Qwirkle Cubes

MindWare Qwirkle CubesI bought this game for our family for New Year's.I knew I wanted to buy Qwirkle but was torn on which version to get.I purchased this version since it sounded like it was a little more challenging and you could roll the dice which would change the outcome of your hand.My 3 boys (ages 10, 8 and 6) love this game as do me and my husband.I was amazed at how quickly my 8 year old caught on to the strategy of the game.My six year old gets it too but I usually have to help him out a little. My boys usually come home from school and want to play a game of Qwirkle. It is a game that can be played in less than an hour and it is fun!It does require some thinking which I appreciate as a mom.I highly recommend this game!!!

Setting aside the fact that Qwirkle (the tile version) has won the Major Fun Keeper Award, and resisting any attempt to compare Mindware's Qwirkle (the tile version) to Mindware's Qwirkle Cubes (the dice version), let us proceed as if there were no precedent, and treat Qwirkle Cubes for the unique game it really is. O, sure, we could compare. We could even contrast. But we shall set these temptations aside, for the nonce, at least.

Qwirkle Cubes comes in a Qwirkle Cubes box that is cleverly cube-like. Open the cleverly cube-like box and you find a sturdy cloth drawstring bag, under which are packaged 90 wooden cubes. You release the cubes from their plastic wrappedness, allowing them to cascade onto the table and make a pleasingly muted woodish sound. You fondle them, because they, in their lovingly polished one-inch, wooden, dice-like way, almost beg you to do so. You roll them, observing how each die has a different shape on each face, all of the same color. And, further, how there are six different colors of dice. And then you place all 90 of these smoothly finished colorful cubes into the bag, as instructed.

You are now ready to play. So you, and another, or perhaps 2 or 3 others, take turns extracting 6 dice from the bag. You place those dice in front of you. Perhaps you give them one more roll, just to celebrate the randomness of it all. And so the game begins.

You all look at your dice. Do you notice perhaps a pattern? Are some of your dice of the same color, and each of those dice showing a different shape? Are more of your dice all showing the same shape, and each a different color? Whoever has the longest of either of the aforementioned goes first.

From then on, you take turns, adding to the grid in crossword-fashion, gathering points for the number of dice you place, and for any adjacent rows or columns of dice you add your dice to, garnering yet 6 more points should you complete a row or column of same-color, different shape symbols. One might be tempted to compare it to something a game of rummy played Scrabble®-fashion. Ah, so simple, so easy to learn, and yet, so rife with strategic significance and tactical titillation.

Before you take your turn, you may, if you so desire, re-roll any or all of your dice. And herein lies the wrinkle of conceptual delight that, dare we compare, is new, even to those who play Qwirkle (the tile game). You see, everyone can see what everyone has. Unlike that other Qwirkle game to which we are not referring, there is nothing hidden. But that very openness is thought-provoking, to say the least. Now that you can see the other players' hands, you have everso much more to analyze. And, in being able to re-roll your dice, you find yourself with the yet further thought-provoking opportunity to see what fate has so far hidden from you. A decision to make. A risk to take. True, you can do nothing about the color of the symbols. But equally true, with the re-rolling option, you might be able to change the shape. So you ponder, and roll, and combine, and add to the ever-unfolding matrix (which is conveniently less table-top-consuming than the matrix that ever-unfolds when playing Qwirkle (the tile game).

The more you play, the deeper your appreciation for the strategic implications of playing with dice, and the clearer it becomes to you that Qwirkle Cubes (the dice game) really can't be compared to Qwirkle (the tile game), even though the colors and shapes and rules for matching and the designer (Susan McKinley Ross) are the same. If you already own one, you will probably want the other, not because it's better or more portable or cuter, but because it's unique, and it's uniquely fun. The symmetry of both versions (6 colors, 6 shapes), the visual, conceptual puzzles they both present make both games endlessly fascinating. The dice really make a difference. And so do the tiles. If you own neither, you should consider buying either. Or both. For kids (probably at least 8 years old). For adults. For families. Maybe 10 minutes to learn. Maybe 30 minutes to play. Fun that makes you think. Fun that even, from time to time, makes you laugh. Fun, most satisfyingly Major FUN.

In fact, we find the FUN so Major that we have come to play more for the glory than the score. Just making some spectacular play, using all the dice on one turn, completing a row and adding on to two or even three more all at the same time is so wonderfully satisfying that winning, dare I say it, seems almost besides the point.

This is an excellent mind exercise "game".Although 4 could play, it's probably better with 2 since that provides an opportunity for more defensive strategy. At the same time, it could easily become an intergenerational activity since all you have to be able to do is recognize colors and shapes.

Ok, I'll try to keep this short.Quirkle is a great game.I like Quirkle Cubes more. It's more enjoyable to just re-roll than have to throw everything back in the bag and redraw new pieces.

I had difficulty rating this game, because I really do like the game, but not the way it was made.Wood is a fine material for many things, but it makes washing a board game difficult and can damage it.So, wood games appear to wear out faster for me, even though I make everyone wash their hands before playing them.I wish they'd used the same material used to make regular dice. Also, while I get that the box is made to look like a cube, it just makes it harder to store with my other games and transport to board game clubs. It's always the odd duck that doesn't fit and I have to put it on top of everything else.

All that being said, I could still give this game a 4/5 if it weren't for the decals they put on the cubes.Instead of using etchings, stickers, durable paint, or any number of options that would last a long time, they chose decals. After one game (and not washing or even wiping the cubes) I've already had decals peal away.As a result, it's difficult to tell what the symbols are.

I've decided that while I like the game, I don't like the materials so much that I'm not going to play the game with the cubes they provide.I'm going to buy a bunch of black dice with white pips and color 15 of each in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Then I'll play the game with colored dice using pips and colors instead of shapes and colors. It's worth the extra durability to me.I can also buy 100 black dice for less than the cost of the game. But, it's not a total loss.I have the printed instructions from the game.

I wish they'd thought out the materials they used more or just done some simple durability tests. When I can make something cheaper and more durable at home that works just as well, I feel cheated by companies.

If you buy the game, I recommend using a sealer to protect the decals before playing the game. It's a lot of extra work, but otherwise the game will wear out very quickly.

This is a great game.We bought regular Qwirkle last year, and played it more than any other game.Qwirkle cube is equally good ... perhaps better, and a nice change of pace from regular Qwirkle.About the only other game we like better is Carcassonne Hunters and Gatherers. It's great with only 2 people or up to 4 people. My wife and I play it alone or with our 8 and 10 year old daughters. It's good because the game goes fast and you don't have to sit bored waiting for your turn as in some games. It is also aesthetically pleasing. There is a decent blend of strategy and luck (more of the former I think).

Puzzle Storage for Upto 1000 Pieces

Puzzle Storage for Upto 1000 PiecesI really like this puzzle saver, it's great in so many ways--it keeps puzzles in place, allows you to store them easily and keep pets (and toddlers) out of your puzzle. It's large, yes, but also very flat which makes it easy to store behind furniture, under beds, or against walls. It snaps shut in a very secure manner, and holds puzzle pieces in place. The board can be lifted out, and there are shallow spaces where you can store and sort pieces. It's great!

This puzzle saver should have 5 stars, but I just have one big complaint about it. It's two inches too short!! Most of my Milton Bradley and Ravensburger puzzles are Americana folk art and measure 22 x 25 inches. This puzzle saver only allows for 20 x 28size puzzles. It's frustrating that it's just TWO INCHES too small. Very few of my standardsize 1000 piece puzzles work with this puzzle saver. Bummer.

I still use it and like it very much. I just hope they release an updated version that fits more standard puzzles! TWO INCHES is nothing! I'd buy a bigger one in a heart beat.

So, my advice before you purchase this is to check out the average size of your puzzles--this may or may not be a good fit for you depending on that one aspect.

I was really excited when my Puzzle Storage for Upto 1000 Pieces arrived.I've recently gotten back into jigsaw puzzles, and with only limited space with which to work in, I was desperate to find something that would allow me to work on my puzzles, and store them safely out of the way the rest of the time.

The Puzzle Storage for Upto 1000 Pieces fails in many areas.Firstly, you need a huge area in which to lay this thing out properly --it did not fit at all on our small(ish) dining table. The reason is that when open, one side of the case serves as the area to work on the puzzle, whilst the other side serves as a "sorting" area with separate compartments for the puzzle pieces.Great idea, sure, but not at all practical for a small dining table. You need an area of about 44 x 30 inches in which to set this thing our properly.

Unfortunately, that's not the only problem. The board itself has a surface that is extremely slippy.I can imagine it would be difficult to pick up individual pieces from such a surface, and the jigsaw puzzle itself would slide around very easily. There are no raised edges to this board, so a lot of care would need to be taken not to cause the entire puzzle to go sliding onto the floor.

The case itself did not seem a very practical means of transporting or storing a jigsaw puzzle.Unless you can keep it completely flat, an uncompleted jigsaw puzzle is going to fall apart as soon as you attempt to carry it by the carry handles. It seems strange to me that the case was even designed to be carried this way due to a puzzle clearly not being likely to stay together when moved in this position.

Also, I dread to think what would happen to all those jigsaw pieces that you would have spent time sorting into the separate compartments. There's no lid or anything to hold them securely in their compartments, and in order to close the case --how is anyone meant to do this with the compartments full of jigsaw pieces?Lowering the "lid" would cause all of the pieces to fall out of the compartments. Therefore, this is hardly a practical transport or storage solution as you'd still need to find somewhere to keep your puzzle pieces (or have them just fall all over the place inside the case).

I was not happy with this product at all, and am returning it immediately back to Amazon.Although it's a lot more expensive, I am now looking into buying a "Jigsort" --this looks far more practical and efficient.I hope it will suit my needs better than the Puzzle Storage for Upto 1000 Pieces did.

I don't have room to keep a puzzle-in-progress on a kitchen or card table, so I've been looking at various ways to store puzzles for over a year and I finally found this one. Puzzle Storage for Upto 1000 Pieces And even though it is pretty expensive, paying for it wasn't an issue because I used the Amazon gift cards my son bought me for my birthday. I waited until I used it for a while for the Animals in Africa, 1000-Pieces Augmented Reality Puzzle Animals in Africa, 1000-Pieces Augmented Reality Puzzle I was also able to buy as one of Amazon's daily deals.

Some pros:

* The Amazon version is shipped in "Certified Frustration-Free Packaging," which is great for someone like me with severe arthritis in my hands.

* The carrier is sturdy, with 2 carrying handles.

* There's a removable assembly board included, as well as 5 partitioned areas in the carrier to sort puzzle pieces.

* The carrier snaps shut when closed.

* Although the whole case is big, it's narrow in depth which makes it less awkward and easier to store.

* It's large, but not so large that it's impossible to work on it on my lap and legs on my sofa.

And cons (all little things that would make working with puzzles easier):

* It is large, which would be cumbersome for shorter people. I'm 5'3" and I have to lean a little to the side to prevent it from hitting the ground as I walk.

* The largest puzzle size it can accommodate truly is only 1,000 pieces; when the edge is assembled it goes right to the very edge of the assembly board.

* You have to make sure all 4 sides of the carrier are snapped shut. Even though I've thought the sides were closed, the first time I used it I noticed puzzle pieces were falling out. Now I know that I have to slide my hand along the edges and snap it shut in several places on each side.

* There are also indentations on both sides of the carrier; I assume it's to make it easier to lift up the assembly board, but they're also easy places for puzzle pieces to escape!

* Although overall I'm really glad I chose this one, the most disappointing thing when I began working on the puzzle was that I'd spent a lot of time finding the edge pieces and sorting the pieces into the 5 partitions, but when I closed the whole thing and lifted it to carry it to the closet ALL the pieces fell out of the partitions and mixed all together again. Lesson learned; I resorted them and store the areas in Ziploc bags. This is why I took off a star.

UPDATE DECEMBER 6, 2012:

M. Swanson' review of the Ravensburger Neuschwanstein Castle 1500-Piece Puzzle had another suggestion that I think would also solve the problem with sliding pieces during storage; he uses coffee filters for each section of the puzzle. Great idea!

Read Best Reviews of Puzzle Storage for Upto 1000 Pieces Here

Seriously, I have ALWAYS wanted one of these puzzle storage units. As I only work a couple of puzzles a year, however, it seemed an extravagance and a luxury item. I was thrilled to get my hands on this new toy and am, in truth, a bit disappointed.

Pros:

Perfect size for standard 1000 piece puzzles.

Self contained, no more cluttering up table tops for extended periods.

Extra room to sort pieces with a few large compartments.

Closes up for easy flat storage (under bed, couch)

Cons:

Simply not effective for transport unless kept flat.

Nothing keeps pieces from sliding when unit is vertical.

There are two main functions in such a device. Storage and transport. This fails on the transportation aspect, and that's a pretty big let-down. The product description promises that the snap tight case will prevent this and it does not. There are even carrying handles implying that this is a normal expectation. Truthfully, how often do you need to carry your puzzle around? Probably not very often. As a work surface, this is just fine. And if that's all you need, by all means--this is terrific. But I've got to score the product accordingly for not fulfilling its promises as listed in the product description. KGHarris, 9/11.

I got this for Christmas, and decided to use it for the traditional Christmas puzzle we do on Christmas day.

What I like:

1. The compartments to sort puzzle pieces do work, and the pieces do not move when the puzzle is closed.

2. When the puzzle is on the board and the case is snapped closed, the puzzle did not move or fall apart. My wife commented that this is true for Ravensburger puzzles, but not be true for thinner puzzles.

3. The case means no more dedicated table, as we can close the case and store the puzzle when we need the table for something else, or when my very young nephews come to visit! :)

What I wish was better:

1. The trays are not removable, so you can't pass the tray around for other people to fins the perfect piece. We wound up not using them after trying them for an hour or so.Cheap cookie sheets in various sizes works for us.

2. There is no lip on the board, or on the side of the case the board sits on when you are working the puzzle. This means the board can easily move if the board or table are bumped hard enough. We used the board, but wound up laying it on the table and building the puzzle on top of it.We put the case aside until we were ready to close it up.

3. Although the case does snap closed, it is easy to not close it completely, and worse, it is even easier to have it open accidentally. My wife finally resorted to some velcro on the side near the front, which worked perfectly.Should not have had to do that, though.

4. When the case is fully open, it takes up a LOT of space on the table, and it allows the for the puzzle to really only be oriented in one direction. We have a large table, so the case size was not a concern, but the orientation is.

So overall, this case is fair to good, but could be improved with a few tweaks. We will use it in the future to store a puzzle that is half done, but not for much else. It's too bad, as this is a great idea which suffers from some poorly thought out execution.

This water table is eye-catching with it's unique feminine colors and would likely be perfect for kids that were at least 3 years old. With it's current design it is not stable enough for younger children although it is marketed towards ages 1 1/2 and up.

The water tower feature is fairly lightweight plastic and just sits on the table with no clips or brackets to secure it. Whenever it is touched or bumped even slightly it comes crashing down sometimes on your child. My daughter is 2 and of average height and to pour water into the tower she has to reach up and instinctively puts her other hand on the tower also causing it to crash down. This could be easily fixed by Step2 added a snap to hold the tower secure.

Because the table itself is lightweight if you are using this indoors you may find that it slides across the floor. I was able to combat this by placing it on a beach towel which stabilized it and caught some of the spilled water.

If you are willing to use the table with the water tower this would be be a great value for the price, but for us the play structure was the main reason why we purchased this table. Hopefully Step2 will consider a redesign of this.

Bought this water table for our little girl's 1st birthday. She absolutely loves it! The only complaint so far is that we have to pry her away from it. It was very easy to put together. She is too small to be able to pour the water into the top of the table right now, but we play with her when she is using it at this point anyways, so that is not a problem. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a water table for their little one!

Mega Bloks Build 'n Learn 1-2-3 Count

Mega Bloks Build 'n Learn 1-2-3 Countproblem is that some blocks do not hold to each other tight enough, just loose. so i do not like that. otherwise it is ok.

The product consists of a bunch of stickers that are not sufficient for the number of blocks; this should have been stated I'm the product description.

It is a bag of mega bloks. Nothing less, nothing more. It is my 3 year old son's first "legos" and he hasn't played with them at all. 30 pieces looks like less than it is. I should have gotten a larger package, but that isn't the manufacturer's fault.

Step2 Naturally Playful Sand and Water Activity Center

Step2 Naturally Playful Sand and Water Activity CenterThis sand box is amazing.Considering that the others are the same price, this is, without a doubt, the one to purchase. The leak-proof top, the toys, the natural look of the toy and the shade umbrella all make this unique.

Things to know:

1) do NOT cut the black cord on the outside of the box. This holds the top on and makes it resistant to rain getting into the toy. This is not evident when you purchase it, as the instruction manual is inside the box. (thank you other reviewer for this tip!)

2) The umbrella is a true navy, not black as it appears in the picture

3) get over your dreams of a perfect sand and water table, with the sand in one area and the water in the other. My son loves the sand and throws it all around our deck. He mixes the water in the sand area and vise versa.Let it go, as hard as it is.

4) the sand area holds 40 lbs. of sand.An average bag is 50 lbs (around $5)But get a second bag anyway (see #3)

Have FUN!

(original review: June 5) We purchased this table for our 3 year old daughter and she loves it.It was a smash with all the kids at her birthday party, not so much with the parents of the sand coated kids.My main reason for wanting a table was to prevent killing the grass underneath as a traditional sandbox would. I chose this one because it has an umbrella (which is very stable and adjustable) and because it has a hard cover. The cover attaches very securely thus keeping additional water, bugs, worms, leaves and various other things out...including my daughter, which comes in handy. My daughter is very pleased with the sand/water combo, rather I should say, the sand "in" the water combo. :o) Having a sandbox at her waist level seems to be very convenient for her.She scoots back and forth most of the time but can sit on a little chair and play too.I intend to bring it into the basement in the winter and fill it with rice (uncooked of course) so she can enjoy it year round. The drawback is the legs. They are attached with screws that can easily tear out and are not enough to keep the legs stable.Ours have not torn because I am very watchful of the position of the legs and prop them back up whenever I see them go askew.Other than that, I would highly recommend this table.

(Update: Sept 13) We've had this table for months now and I wanted to make some additional comments. The table is diffucult to move by yourself but I have my 3 yr old help me, she can easily carry the water side as long as there is no water in it.We have also taken this to a couple of family functions to keep my daughter from digging in the dirt or the flower beds, etc. It's quite portable without the water and as long as you make sure the legs are straight and it isn't free floating before you drive off.Another thing that I didn't think of was that because the kids stand to play with the sand, they don't get any sand up the legs of their shorts or in their underpants. Also, the umbrella shades more if you put it very low, just a few inches above your child's head.

WowWhat a wonderful table!I did acres of research on all the different options before buying this one for our youngest child's first birthday present.I'm so glad we bought this onewe couldn't be happier with it.Here are the things we like about this table.

1. Great size. This table is large enough that multiple children can play with it together (some of the ones on the market are really small).BUT, it's not so large it can't be used inside. We've put it in the kitchen on several occasions for the children to play with during nasty weather days.

2. It is heavy and sturdy. My kids have climbed all over it and haven't been able to tip it over. But, it's not so heavy that I can't lift it on my own.I lifted it over the child safety gate (with the sand in it) to carry it out of the kitchen and back to the deck.

3. I like the versatility of the table. You can use sand on one side and water on the other as intended. But, I've put in dried beans or dried rice instead of the water or just a tiny bit of water with some leftover spaghetti noodles and that was fun too. It's nice to do on nasty winter days when the kids can't go outside and are bored with playing inside.I just carry this into the kitchen and it gives them something a little new to do.

4. The umbrella is a nice featureprovides that little bit of shade so that they can play comfortably.

5. GREAT COVERit really does stay put! We've had some strong winds and it's never come off. Also, it usually is out on our deck and the cover has never leaked, even during the worst rain storms. The sand is always perfectly dry.

The ONE and only Con (and it's a minor one): I wish that the umbrella would tilt so that I could move it around to block the shade.Other than that, this is the perfect table!

First of all, we have had this toy for 3 years and it still looks like the first day it came out of the box (in the BLAZING Texas sun). Also, it has been moved around too many times to count and is still as strong as ever. It's durable. Plus, it really does keep water out and the cover stays put tightly even through the most violent and windy thunderstorms. The umbrella is awesome, although I did have to replace it once due to weathering. I soooooooo don't care. Read on...

I'm on my third child now and if there is one thing I'm sick of, it's the toy that's a one-trick pony. I'm really looking for more versatility in a toy. That said, let me tell you why we will keep this toy until the kids outgrow it even though we also have an 8x10 ft. sandbox in the back yard. Sure, it's a sand and water table but we've done it all: (1) sand alone (2) water alone (3) potting soil/trowels/silk plants/plastic pots (4) landscaping stones and small tonka construction vehicles (aka "the quarry)--sometimes the small trucks even deliver to the Tonka Mighty and it goes on for hours (5) bubble solution to use with the large wands and even the small and different wands (so that the kids aren't fighting over the tiny opening of a tiny bottle of bubbles that inevitably gets spilled all over the patio) (6) a Mommy-made iceburg (colored blue) on the hottest summer day with dollar store penguins and polar bears--you can even shave the iceburg to make snow (I used a putty knife) and put crushed ice (if your refrigerator makes it) in the water to make it a happier habitat (7) dishwater and play dishes with sponges and scrubbers to play clean-up without making a mess at the sink like they do inside (8) aquarium gravel/toys/plants with pretend fish (9) sand over buried "fossils" (pretend dinosaur bones found at the local dollar store) (10) sand sifters and dirt with various sizes of rocks that I spray painted gold -super fun day! (11) measuring spoons/cups/jugs that teach lessons about volume -pair with bath color tablets to learn about color mixing! (12) Did you know that Little People LOVE to go to the beach? (Off subject, they're also not opposed to a tumble in the dishwasher!) (13) any number of arts and crafts activities that I would rather do outside than inside (making slime, papier mache, etc.) (14) tin pans/muffin cups paired with dirt/sticks/water mud for mud pies (15) sand castles, of course! (16) dinosaurs and various animals add a tremendous amount of play value to your basic sand environment.

Well, that's all that I can remember doing in three years time as I sit here writing this review, although I'm sure there's more. As if all that isn't enough, this table is a great size. No elbowing for more space here. There's room for 6 kids. Yep, one on each end and two on each side. True story.

Do you miss sipping iced tea and reading a magazine or chatting with friends? It can happen again while your toddler plays happily and safely. I LOVE this toy. Can you tell?

Being VERY picky about my purchases, I researched and debated pros and cons of all the sandboxes available, and am very pleased with this one except for the weak legs, which may pose a safety problem as it could collapse on a child. This is a shame because this table is fantastic!Kids play for hours!

This one gets 5 stars for the following:

*Umbrella is a bonus--but take it down if the wind kicks up

*Lid strong & secure keeps kids&cats out. DO NOT cut black ties

*Size and design of the table enables 4-6 kids to play

*Drain works well--drain daily to avoid mosquitos

*Price is reasonable--look for sales and coupons

*Looks nice on the porch, not cheezey looking like most

I found that a sand table is better than sand box because:

**more kids can play together--4-6 can fit and not kick sand

**no sand in the shoes or pants = less sand waste, less mess

**water section adds to the fun--drain it if you want less mess

**only requires half a small bag of kiddie sand

**keep on porch to easily sweep up and re-use spilled sand

**smaller toys = less cost and more use of fine motor skills

I hope the company will fix the problem with the legs on the new models and do a recall with a solution for those of us that own the table already so that no children get hurt. I closely monitor mine right now, but have to fix the legs at least once a day.

LEGO Quatro Bucket

LEGO Quatro BucketI didn't think 12mo Sam would really be able to use the quatro bricks, which are twice the size of duplo (and therefore 4x regular lego size). To my surprise, they were a hit.

The blocks stick together easily and come apart with no fuss. The top of the storage chest doubles as a base plate. There are orange, purple and green blocks, which was an eye-opener for me: I've never seen a purple lego block.

Sam wasn't building the Great Wall of China out of the box, but the set seemed age-appropriate, durable and fun.

They blocks are indeed easy to pull apart a bit too easy, as the airplane I keep making keeps falling apart. And the lid is great as a building surface, although it's concave (pushed down) a bit so that getting the blocks to stick to it is sometimes tricky.

But the size, number, and colors are great our 13-month-old loves them!

Everyone has fun with these blocks.I think they are a great investment. My son is 1 and has fun building with (and knocking down) his Quatros. It is a great toy for interactive play something he and his daddy play with almost every night before bed. Also, my husband and brother enjoy building with these too ;-)I think it is a toy that'll last more than a few months probably for many years. It is also nice that it is compatible with the preschool table and Duplos.I highly recommend it!

I know that there is a relatively brief period of time that these Lego Quatro blocks will be useful before my son discovers the smaller, sturdier Duplos, but I just couldn't wait to introduce him to the building blocks that captivated me as a child.

At just 9 months old, my son is too young for the Duplo series. That's where these extra large Quatro blocks come in perfectly. They are larger and softer than their toddler-appropriate counterparts, but they are every bit as much fun, even if they're only being used as teething aides or noisemakers! As other reviewers have stated, the blocks don't stay together as securely as the Duplos would, but I find that to be beneficial while my son is learning how to put them together and take them apart. It also makes the inevitable collapses of my Lego towers that much more spectacular when my son knocks them down!

We chose the extra large bucket of Quatros and don't regret it in the least. There are plenty of blocks in a variety of colors, and being able to use the lid as a building surface is a nice touch. Even if they are only "useful" for a few months, it is well worth it for our family to be able to play with Legos together.
