Pass the Pigs

I am a teacher and I use this game with my kids at school all the time.They LOVE it from grade school to high school depending on how you use it.

I don't really follow the rules that came with it, only the values of how the pigs land.I have used it often in an afterschool tutoring program were we often practice math facts and addition.I took the instruction sheet from the game, found the place where they have the pigs drawn and what the rolls are worth, enlarged it on the copier so all the kids (usually less than 6) can see it at the same time (and of course, colored the pig drawings pink!)Then each student rolls, finds what his roll is worth, and adds his score.The first to pass 100 points wins.We sometimes start with 100 and subtract our score -the first to zero (or less) wins.We have played where I announce at the beginning of the round that "This roll will be multiplied by 7"..the kids all cheer "Come on doule razorback!"I was amazed how fast they learned what each roll was worth.I would have liked to try something with fractions, but my study group wasn't ready for that.(For example, you could make each roll worth a certain fraction and they would have to add them up at the end of the game.)

We have also used it to study for tests.I ask them a question and if they get it right, they get to roll.I am sure you could adapt it to lots of subjects.It is just a fun way to do rote things with a little more fun.

I have also used it with younger kids who cannot add yet.I drew them a 100 square (a little block about 3"x3" divided into 10x10 grid) and made a bunch of copies.Then they roll, find their score on the scoresheet, then color in that many squares with a marker.Nice counting practice, and visual of how much different coloring in 20 is from coloring in only 5.I sometimes ask them "Look at your paper and at Joe's.Who has more squares colored in?How many do you need to catch up?"

I really don't see any problem with the competing, and I sort of like the added benefit of learning HOW TO LOSE (which few seem to know) and other sportsmanship behaviors.

The only problem I have seen with the game is that the little black dot (on one side of the pig) wears off and I have to keep drawing it on with a sharpie.Also, after about a year, their little piggy tails are hardly hanging on.I need a new set.

GET THE GAME....have fun, change the rules, make up new ones...the pigs are the motivation...you decide what you want them to learn from it.OR learn nothing and just play.You'll like it.

Pass the Pigs is a variation on Yahtzee, with the fun little pig dice being thrown into different combinations with various point values.

It's a great game to take on trips, or to pull out when entertaining children of various ages; everyone can enjoy it.I've played with children as young as 4 and had a fine time.

Although the rules of the game rely on the player taking a turn until he or she determines that luck is about to run out (at the risk of losing all accumulated points), this can easily be modified (esp. for younger children) so that each player throws the dice in turn and records points.

The educational value is in using mathematical skills, and pattern recognition skills, for younger players.

This game is very durable, but it would be a sad day indeed if the little pigs were ever lost.Luckily, all the parts (pigs, score pad, pencil) fit into a neat little case.

I really like this game for a number of reasons. First, because it's fun for kids AND adults to play, second, because it is very small and portable, and third, because it does require some math, giving it some educational value. It is also a quiet game requiring only a flat surface on which to roll the pigs and enough light to see them. It's nice that there are also so very few parts to lose (2 pigs,pencil,& paper-all in a case).

We keep a set in our car, and when we are waiting to be seated or served at a restaurant, it's a great way to pass the time.It also makes a nice little gift for friends going on a trip. I only wish that I had thought up such a simple, but clever game!

I just purchased this item at a local Target and I have to say, no other toy has kept my son's attention as long as this toy did.The balls pop like popcorn and the"drum" underneath it is activated to pop the balls every time something touches it.There is also a fun spinning rattle in the front that also activates the "popper."And fun music to accompany the movement.The balls can fall through a hole in the side and come out the dinosaur's mouth as well, and you can feed them into the popper with the dinosaur's tail.This is such a creative toy and also helps him with his fine motor skills as he is always trying to grasp the ball.It is also a great "cause-and-effect" toy if your baby is in that stage where he/she enjoys that kind of thing.My son is about 8 months right now and loves it!He has literally played with it for over a half hour and always goes back to it.

My son is so simple. He would prefer to play with a solo cup over his fancy toys. However, nothing keeps his attention for too long. With that being said, HE LOVES THIS TOY! This toy seemed so cool on the box and was a great idea but doesnt quite work the way it says.The balls shoot really far and dont stay in the little circular area long enough to pop around.I spend most of my time chasing the balls for my son who cant get them fast enough to put them back in before losing interest.The little green swinging door that is supposed to release the balls when you drop them down the slide is always stuck and does not rotate so the balls dont get released into the center area.Boooo.For how expensive this toy is I would save my money and get something else!

Gund Horse Small 11" Plush

Our 18 month old is in love with the farm. Horses, especially. He's not into the cartoon ones, though. Most stuffed animals are not realistic enough, with unnatural colors, over sized heads, etc. This Gund horse is perfect!Just a normal looking horse. Realistic coloring, all parts sized proportionally, just like what you see when you visit the farm. The materials are super soft and the stitching is definitely sturdy. It's still made in China on the tag, but it looks like the Gund name is ensuring a quality product. Definitely recommend over cheaper stuffed toy brands.

My first grader has been having a blast with these latest SS playsets. This playset has a beach theme which was perfect for our recent spring break beach getaway as she brought them along to the beach and played with them. We received this train table yesterday.We are absolutely thrilled with it.It took approximately an hour-and-a-half from start to finish to put it together (including the table and track assembly).It arrived in a very timely manner we ordered it on Wednesday and received it on Friday.The quality is very good.We had considered buying a Thomas table, but we reconsidered when we found that this one.It was a good choice.Our son is only two-years-old and the table is recommended for ages 3+ (some of the items may be a choking hazard), but he really seems to be enjoying it.Although it is a little more expensive than the Thomas tables that we found, it is well worth it when you consider that you receive two train cars, accessories, and the track included with the table.To purchase these items separately from the table would have been much more expensive.The storage bins underneath the table are nice for storing extra trains.The company included another bridge in separate packaging because the bridge that originally comes with the set is not wide enough to fit the Thomas trains.I am very impressed by this company and how proactive they were to ensure that we would be receiving a quality product that we are happy with.

Bought this for my son for his 2nd Birthday! He loves it of course what kid wouldn't! It is very sturdy and well made! Was pretty simple to put together. Took about an hour total including putting the track together. We may glue or nail down track not sure yet our son does not rip it apart(not yet anyway) but I am afraid when other children come over it may get deystroyed. And then I will be putting the tracks back together! Directions were great and all parts accounted for. The storage is on both sides of the table. You can make the storage bottom blue or red. The train set itself it nice too. Came with two trains as stated. The pictures of the trains on both sides of the table is a nice touch.I would highly recommend and say it is worth every penny!

Gund Philbin 18" Bear, Beige

Going through a rough patch lately, and I thought I needed something a bit more huggable than the cat, who doesn't always appreciate it. After lots of searching, I decided on Philbin. Used my Prime 2-day shipping, and he arrived the next day with a warm, sympathetic expression on his face and an unlimited capacity for hugs. His fur is tufty and super soft, his limbs wonderfully floppy and posable, his face is just perfectly adorable, and he is super squishy and huggy. A little smaller than I thought he would be, but really the perfect size. His fur doesn't come out, his eyes are very secure, and he even has a cute little short tail. Overall, extremely nice quality bear, and exactly what I needed. If you have a friend of any age who is in need of encouragement, you can't go wrong with this guy!

This is a great bear! I bought two of the Gund Phlibin Bears as Christmas presents, one in beige and one in brown for my niece and nephew who both requested a "cuddly, soft teddy bear". Kiddie Chair Set

We have had these for more than a year and love them. It is easy to take off the covers and throw them in the wash. I was worried about shrinkage but they fit just fine even after a spin in the dryer. They are also pretty stable my smallest one will grab the sides and pull up and they do not topple over on her. We have not had any luck with the table being used for anything other than a "jump rock". It has been relegated to the garage.

I was trying to decide between this one and the more expensive $60 lamp with LED lights.... I figured this would not be something I usedwhole lot, so I would just go with the cheaper one.

I have not decided if I will be keeping this or not yet...

First, the picture is white but the actual item I received was black. Not really a big deal to me, but worth noting.

The magnifying glass was loose in the box, having falling out of it's mount. Which, by the way, and these 3 really tiny tabs. I screwed it back together. The steel this thing is made out of feels extremely cheap and is very thin. The springs are not strong enough to hold it in place, and the hand knobs that you use to tighten and hold it in place when in use turn the screw along with the knob. This means you need to have a phillips screwdriver in hand any time you want you tighten the hand knob things.

Overall this is extremely low quality, not even worth $19 bucks. I recommend paying a little more to get something better.

The only complaint I have with it is that the measuring guide is stationary and very difficult to move from one position to another. They should have made it slide and lock only when you want it to. I bought this trimmer because I needed a guide to keep my medium weight cardboard from shifting while I cut.Well, it still shifts.When I began to cut it felt like the plastic handle was going to break and I fear it eventually will break since I will be using it quite a bit. I was not expecting plastic on a trimmer with heavy duty in its name, especially on the handle.The guide is great, but I feel it should be a little friendlier, like being able to be moved easier and locked easier when changing sizes.Unfortunately I have to take the guide out of the opening and move it each time.The guide is attached really well once in place though, but is a pain to take out and reposition.Also, I tried to cut like 3 pieces of 110 lb cardstock, but it shifted while cutting.It can cut 2 pieces without shifting.I expected it to cut at least 3 pieces since the 3 cardstock pieces are not even as thick as the medium weight cardboard.All in all, I would not recommend it because of the plastic handle.I feel that it can become hazardous and it will eventually break off and become unusable.

GuideCraft Royal Tabletop Puppet Theater

We were pleasantly surprised at the quality for the price!The frame is all woodno particle board.The curtains are made of heavy fabric that drapes nicely.A little glam with the gold trim adds to the appearance.The kids love the little card that can be inserted in the clear plastic pocket & quickly made extra 'signs' to put in there.Now that it's put together, we'll be keeping it that way as it was not tricky, butenough pieces to assemble that we probably won't keep disassembling and reassembling.We didn't need any tools, which was nice,it wasn't hard to assemble.

I was nervous about purchasing this theatre because it was one of the cheaper theatres that I looked at, but I knew I wanted a tabletop version and did not want to spend too much since I wasn't sure how much it would be used.I was very happy with it!It looks exactly like the picture, except for the pull cords, it's an elastic cord wrapped in gold instead of gold braiding, which isn't that big of a deal.It's beautiful and is big enough for 2 to be behind.I like that I can put it away when not in use unlike the bigger versions.I had a standing theatre in my classroom and the children were always tipping it over because they were trying to rest their elbows on it, causing it to lean forward.That is one of the reasons why I chose a tabletop theatre so that my kids could comfortably rest their elbows on the table.I tried pushing on it to see if it could tip and it did not, it just slid forwardvery sturdy!My three girls, ages 8,5,& 2 love putting on shows for us!

I bought this for my 4 yr old dd who loves puppets, but I don't have space for a big puppet theater. First off the price is reasonable. All pieces are solid wood and painted a deep purple. Assembly is easy -everything fits into slots. And it can quickly be taken apart and stored in its box. The fabric trim and gold accents are very appealing. Unlike the previous review, I didn't find the fabric for the drapes to be "heavy". But the color and velvet texture are much nicer than some other products I had checked out. Best of all my dd loves it, and wants more puppets to create more "shows".

This theater has no screws to hold in place, so it constantly kept falling apart when my children leaned on it. Finally it broke after I walked by it and knocked it down.

Battlegroup Box Set (Plastic) MKII Khador Warmachine Miniature Game

This was the first Warmachine product i bought and i absolutely love it! The models are all crafted out of a soft resin plastic but the detail on them is fantastic. There isn't much clean-up to do on the models as the mold lines are few and easy to fix. The box set comes with 2 Warjacks and 1 Warcaster and they all look great. Though lack of instructions on how the assemble the warjacks may leave some beginners a bit confused, the assembly is very easy and shouldn't be too hard for anyone, even beginners. Overall, I would highly recommend this product to anyone getting into Warmachine or mini wargaming in general.

Gund Comfy Cozy Snipper Lion - 24"

My 4 year old got a Gund monkey toy like this for his first birthday and the two have been inseparable since. Now my 2 year old wants it all the time and we found ourselves "sharing" it at bed time. So we ordered the little guy his own. They LOVE the satin belly and I've noticed the edges don't take too long to start fraying. You may want to have 2 of the same item while one is in the wash or being repaired. We only have the one each and it's not allowed out of the house... Nothing lasts forever but they love it!

We had one of these for our older son who is 3, he unfortunately lost it.I ordered a new one for our baby who is on the way and the price is the same but the blanket is much much smaller.Very disappointed.
