I purchased this item and just set this up in preparation for designing my Christmas village wanting to see how it would look. Of course, I just HAD to run it for a bit and so far, so good. Now, understand that this is NOT the highest of quality that you would receive for spending a lot more money, but for the price the quality is quite acceptable indeed.

That being said, I wish Bachmann would have included a picture of the track SOMEWHERE on their website. I purchased straight tracks to extend the layout a bit and looking at the limited pics available, I gambled it was the track with a grey surface. It is not, it has a BLACK surface. So if you need extenders, now you know.

That aside, it was a good purchase and I am satisfied with it.

This train replaced a battery operated train I had for 30 years that finally stopped working.It's a small set that we used under our table top Christmas tree.It's better than we expected, and I have a feeling I will be expanding it over the years.

This was purchased to entertain my 3 year old granddaughter under a small artificial Christmas Tree. Mission accomplished!I intended to configure it in a circle but the electrical contacts to the track are located on one of the two straight track pieces so the only way to put it together without modification is, as advertised, in the 38X47 inch oval. For the price, there is nothing "cheap" about the construction, it's just not heavy duty. I'm very happy with this purchase.

My son just got this train for Christmas. He is 5. While it may be difficult for him to set up alone it is a great way for some father/grandfather bonding. The detail is impressive on the trains. The track snaps together easily and functions well on uneven surfaces (no problem navigating my wrinkled tree skirt) the engines movement is well controlled. I was a little disappointed that I couldn't find the smoke solution in my packaging but that doesn't take away from the product. I have to play with it some more but believe it may be 5 star material. Definitely a good buy.

We got this train set as part of our new family tradition. We began setting this up each and every Christmas. The product itself is heavy duty although some parts are fragile. I would be careful with kids around as they may be able to break some of the smaller parts. Other then that, this will be in our family for many years to come.
