The Pick-Up Sticks is an ancient Chinese game of concentration, skill and patience. The original set of sticks is made of bamboo, with both ends with a sharp point, and in groups of different colors. In this toy, the sticks are made of plastic, with a little ball in the extremes instead of the point (safety for kids) and come in a convenient tube for safekeeping. It's a very good game for kids from 4 to 12 years, especially in stormy days.

Through no fault of Amazon.com, I did not get exactly what I expected.I did not read the description carefully enough.My only experience has been with wooden pik-up stiks.The plastic ones with the little bulbs on the end will make it difficult to play the way my family is used to.Hopefully we will get used to these as well.Also, I don't believe there were instructions with these, or very few.For those members of my family who have never played, it will make it difficult for them to learn.Overall, I was disappointed, but not entirely Amazon.com's fault.

This is a plastic stick take off of the origional 4-5-6 pick up sticks of years ago. The ends are plastic balls instead of pointed sticks and there are not as many and the rules are different.When they came I almost threw them away. I bought Pick up Sticks game for a "prize gift" for 7yo birthday party. It was not what I had expected. I understand that they were trying to make it "kid safe", but they ruined the game. they put balls at the ends of the sticks. these make it impossible to play the game like I remembered playing. You can't use a stick to lift an intended stick without moving another stick. I am sure you understand what I'm trying to say if you ever played it with the original style sticks.It's no fun and pointless with this new style. I was unable to see the ball ends of the sticks from the product photo and never thought to look harder to try and make out what the ends looked like.Would not recommend and would not buy again. Might as well discontinue making this game if they are like these.

Overall, this is a nice set for someone who wants to put a train around the tree.If you want to have a set that you can expand, I recommend that you consider a more-expensive set.The main negative that I have on this set is that Lionel includes a low-power PowerMax transformer.This has enough power to run this set, but if you add track or accessories then you'll need a bigger transformer like the CW80 which costs around one hundred dollars.Here's what I see as the pros and cons:

Pros looks good; has headlight, smoke, whistle and lighted caboose; fastrack is a nice track system; can add lots of Lionel accessories; Amazon price of two hundred ten dollars is a respectable price.

Cons weak transformer; Christmas music boxcar needs a 9v battery and the on switch is on the bottom of the boxcar;

We just opened the track cleaner that goes with this set. Can't wait for the kids to have a new tradition with the Christmas train. My son carries his trains around with him and pushes them on the track and they do get beat up but they still run. The local train shop has tightened screws, fixed motors and couplings, etc. Only one engine from 10 years ago was not worth fixing since it was cheaper to buy a new engine. Hoping this set will last a long time.

Best Friend Doll

The doll that I received wasn't exactly the same as the doll pictured on Amazon.com. In particular, the head has a different shape. Although it may be a minor problem for some, it is a major problem for me.

I also wasn't pleased with the packaging. The doll comes wrapped up very tightly in a bag--which could be compared to a cheap grocery produce bag--and this made the doll's hat wrinkled and made the hair very messy.

I recently purchased this for our twin grandsons for their second birthday. There are some crafts that are so fun and easy and affordable, that you just have to ask yourself why not?

Of the three available sets including Farm Friends and Pets, the Garden Creatures pack was our favorite.

Our kids, who can count and paint, enjoyed freelancing on this project and simply painting the colors they wanted in the spaces they wanted thereby creating their own colorful design. That's the joy of so many of the products in the Alex line: as a beginner, you can follow the pattern; or, as a more confident artist, you can imagine your own creation.

This is a good beginner project for young kids who need direction from a paint-by-number system. It's also a good intermediate project for older kids who like to paint but can't draw figures or design their own composition.

Barbie® My House

We gave this to our daughter for christmas and she hasn't stopped playing with it since! She had wanted a house for her Barbies, but as we live in a very small apartment we don't have the room for one of the typical Barbie mammoth houses, but this house is perfect! It can be arranged in whatever way works for the story she's making up at the time and when she's all done for the day the walls fit inside and it folds up to roughly 18" long and 4" wide. The furniture doesn't fit inside when it's folded up, but it can easily be tucked next to it. The house also has cute touches like the pet door in the front door and my personal favorite, the washer and dryer that really spins when you push on the detergent box on the top. On the down side, some of the furniture comes apart pretty easily (but snaps right back together easily) and every single decoration is a sticker that you have to apply (actually, I love doing stuff like that so to me that wasn't even a negative).

Final word, great bargin and just right for the Barbie lover who doesn't have the space for the huge Barbie houses.

Awesome barbie house. The accessories are great, they are small but great. I purchased for my 4 year old daughter. She plays with it all the time. I would definately reccommend.

We celebrated our family Christmas this morning and my 4 year old received this from my husband and me.She said, "It's the best dollhouse ever!My favorite!" and thanked us about a hundred times.I think it'll go over well with the intended audience (4-7 year old girls who love Barbie).

PROS:

*It comes with tons of accessories, hair drier, toothbrushes, towel, waste basket, laundry basket, plates, cups, utensils, food, laptop computer, dog, convertible bed/ottoman, small table and chairs, ... more than I can remember.

*Some of the items on the "house" are interactive and really help to encourage imaginative play.You can open the front door, washing machine, toilet lid, oven, and part of the refrigerator, .... Some of the cabinets are fixed and don't open by my daughter doesn't seem to mind.

*It folds up very compactly so it doesn't take up a ton of space when not in used.It's about 15inches wide, 4 inches deep, and 12 inches tall when folded.(Not exact measurements.I'm just estimating.)

CONS:

-It's not the sturdiest item (the shell of the house if fine, but the extra walls that you can reposition fall over occassionally especially if you're playing on carpet).

-The pieces are small and may be lost to the vacuum cleaner some day.

Bottom line, I paid $12 for this on Amazon with free shipping and it was WELL worth that price.

I bought this house for my girls (8,4 & 3) because I couldn't find a barbie house for under a $100.To my surprise and the girls, it has been an enormous amount of fun.There are 3 walls (1) that is used as the front door and back door/living area (1) that is used as a kitchen on one side and a living room type wall on the other side and (1) that has a bathroom with a toilet, shower, sink, and washer and dryer and on the other side is a bedroom scene.The washer and dryer have a button on top to push to make them spin.The shower opens and the toilet folds up and down.The refrigerator opens and it comes with a chair that opens up into a bed as well as a table and 2 chairs.

The house is sturdy and well built and folds up nicely to fit into a small space.You may want to purchase additional furniture to further the play and imagination.I haven't had any issues with it falling over even on carpet and my girls love the fact that they can rearrange the walls.

My opinion:It's a great product especially for the price!

this crystal growing set is sure a lot of fun, but it is very hard to do the projects, and IT DOSEN'T GROW AS BIG AS IT SHOWS ON THE COVER. it grows very small. But this toy is fun for growing stuff. IT IS VERY MESSY!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Thomas train and train collections are durable toys. Their real value, though, is that playing with the toys allows children to act out the great Thomas and Friends children's stories they read and watch.

This is a nice layout that provides far more track than the usual figure 8 layout that gets purchased first. But it is very expensive. There is generic track available that costs far less. Our kids haven't noticed the difference. IT IS EASY TO CREATE ELEVATED TRACK AND BRIDGES USING LEGO OR DUPLO PIECES AS SUPPORTS.GENERIC CRANES ARE AVAILABLE FOR MUCH LESS.

Kids' imaginations can remarkably supply buildings and water towers and cranes, etc., so that they won't even miss what might be lacking from less expensive sets. And families can build some of these items themselves out of old boxes, etc.

Purchasing recommendation:

* Choose which type of Thomas trains you will 'standardize' on. There are three kinds: This size of wooden trains from Learning Curve; larger, plastic, battery-operated trains from Tomy; and smaller, die-cast metal trains from Ertl. The wooden trains have the most products and accessories available.

* The clickety-clack (grooved to look like real railroad) track in the Thomas series is great, but it's expensive; I recommend buying generic track. ... You can literally save hundreds of dollars by buying these kinds of sets.

* Buy the Thomas and friends engines separately--and wait for sales. The kids care about the characters, so no short-cutting (ie., Brio or generic trains) here.

* Look for trains bundled with VHS videos. You can get a video and a train (on sale) for about the same price as a train alone.

Santa brought this set for my 3 year old son last Christmas and he has played with it everyday since. With daily use, this wooden set is holding up to his rough play. His favorite piece is Cranky the Crane. It's easy to add onto as we have added the hospital and another bridge. We purchased a Nilo table to put the train on so it will stay together. Well worth the money!

Russ Berrie Yomiko Lop Ear Bunny 17"

My kids got this bunny for Easter and it is truely adorable...looks a little odd in the pic, dont know if it is the black contrast that makes it look weird in the face or what but my worries were over when I saw his face for the first time. However, there a few flaws or maybe not flaws but discrepancies...this rabbit is not close to 17 inches long, they are counting if you extend the ears out past the body, which is just plain false advertising if you ask me! They do that with all of the Jellycat rabbits as well though and maybe a lot of the stuffed animals, but I havent really noticed until this rabbit because the size was so different than the description. It is a solid 13 1/2 inches...I measured and I was expecting a larger rabbit for my $25. The rabbit is just so cute though that the size didnt phase me much and normally that would really make me mad but the rabbit is so incredibly life-like, soft as a real bunny and my kids call it their "dog" because of the way it lays down...they told me that bunnies sit on their hind legs with front paws up and in front! HILARIOUS...can't wait to see a real bunny with them again! Also, around the eyes there looks to be some dye or paint that is used to make the face look a certain way and it was a little matted on the ones we got, not a huge deal unless it were to maybe get wet??? I hope not because this is surely a new pal...my kids are stuffed fanatics! Lastly, it comes with a little hang tag around its neck including the paper hang tag that looks like a collar and it does add something to the cuteness or ability to be a pet! This is a plush I would buy for anyone and highly recommend as it looks durable, realistic and is incredibly soft. We are very happy!

Bright Starts License to Drool Teether

We received these teethers as a shower gift (not the pink version) for our son. These have lasted through all his teeth, as well as numerous turns in the dishwasher. Still looks brand new, even after being toted around town ("my keys"), across the country, and in various toy boxes throughout the house. My teething daughter found these and refuses to part with them, Great in the bath, at the table, on the changing table... My kids were/are so pleased with these teethers!

My daughter doesn't like these keys at all at first. They look great to me -nice and chunky, brightly-colored -but she shows no interest in them. The plastic is really hard and not very chewable and the keys are slightly heavier than you'd think they should be. Other babies might like them, but there are far better teethers out there (my baby loves the Winkel Teether and the Bright Starts Flutter Links).

EDIT: Now that my daughter is older, she likes shaking these keys and gnawing on them!

Delta Disney Cars Square Table and Chair Set

For my son's 2nd birthday we redid his entire room in the Cars theme.We went as far as repainting his room & furniture.

This table & chair set is a MUST for any Cars fan.I was a little hesitant at first because the price was very good...so I wasn't expecting a whole lot. I was very pleasantly surprised.They are extremely sturdy, fairly heavy for the size, and beautiful bold colors/graphics.Can't go wrong with this fantastic set.

This table is nice because it is wood, instead of plastic and metal. My toddler loves it, but one of the table legs has loosened and stripped out where the leg screws into the table. We have glued it several times but it is still loose. The chairs have been durable and we have had the set for over a year now. Some of the paint on the top has chipped from being cleaned a lot.

The shape of the loo and the tub are nice, and the vanity mirror can be left off the tub.I really like the little peripheral stuff (the loofahs and soaps and such), and the fixtures on the tub are PERFECT.Word of caution, if you're going to refinish it (like I did), sand the tub a little first, use Krylon Fusion and let it cure for the full week.Because the tub plastic is just a touch flexible you run the risk of damaging your new paint job if you don't let it cure.Otherwise, fantastic set.
